A slang I use: PRT (Prime Ride Time): The time from when a coaster starts to pick up its main speed (either by a drop or launch), until the final brakes start to slow the train down. so the prime ride time for wodan would be 50 seconds when it starts to pick up speed after the lifthill until the final brakes slow the train down.

It would mean that you draw out all of the elements and add four across seating. But it would probably be a smoother and more reliable coaster in most cases.
I have a suggestion, you should make coaster quizzes, so people can see how much they know about coasters and what level of experience and knowledge they have.

I don't know what you mean, I say "Let's Vekoma it" all the time to refer to people getting dumped in trash cans upside down
All those terms I use in my vocab. Thanks Taylor and part 3 please. Allow me to share some... "Stale" park- a park that hasn't added a major attraction in 5 or more years Pit Stop- my personal slang for "bathroom break" as a racing enthusiast I applied that to parks Multi Sensory Experience- a ride that has elements that uses the 5 senses. Marathoning- when you ride a coaster over and over again
First term i learned was at the Farm. Early morning Montezuma when maintenance told me id be fine hanging up side down... "SHORT SHOT" When a train doesn't complete its course. Usually due to axle grease being too cold causing resistance in the wheelhouse.
Could you guys imagine RMC Racer? It would be like Twisted Colossus except it would actually duel.

You guys should definitely do a part 3. As someone new to coaster enthusiasm, this really helped me out.
Positive g forces refer usually to forces felt in a vector going either head to toe or front to back. In that sense, positive g forces either push you down into your seat (often seen in a tight helix or vertical loop as well as the bottom of a hill) as well back into your back support (often seen on launches.) Forces that follow the top to bottom vector also have the potential to cause you to decrease the cardiac output to the brain due to the force working against the blood flow which can affect vision and potentially your level of consciousness causing a "gray out" or "black out" effect. Airtime is often referred to as negative g forces because it exerts a force from the toe to the head causing you to feel less than the force of gravity (assuming your vehicle is not going through an inversion.) If this force is equal to the force of gravity but in the opposite vector then you will feel like you're floating (i.e. "floater airtime".) If the force is greater than the force of gravity but in an opposite vector to gravity then you will feel pushed away from the earth (i.e. "ejector airtime.") If you are in an inversion and the force vector is upward from head to toe then you will experience positive g forces despite the vector being the opposite of gravity. This will be felt as a force pushing you toward your feet (usually due to a centripetal force.) If you are inverted and the force from head to toe is equal to the force of gravity then you will experience inverted weightlessness (commonly seen on a zero g stall.) If you are inverted and the force from head to toe is less than the force of gravity then you will feel pulled downward from your seat toward the earth and experience hang time. Because hangtime causes a force than pulls you away from your seat it is often viewed as being analogous to airtime and even sometimes called another form of airtime.
@visionist7

I would never call hangtime airtime
@zacg_

@@visionist7 that's fair. The physics behind coasters is fairly straightforward but the terms we use are a matter of language and not science. I can see why some people think of it as a form of airtime but generally I agree with you that it isn't what most people have in mind when they use the term "airtime."

It doesn't make it through a section of the course, because it wasn't going fast enough.... and rolls back, settling at the lowest point between two higher sections of track..... one section which it went past the first time and the next section which it didn't make it past the first time.
I have a question. Do parks count hangtime in the airtime count? For example, the 27 seconds of airtime on Steel Vengeance include the inversions or not?
@OklahomaCoasterFan
4 жыл бұрын
It probably would count, because you are out of your seat. 3 of Steel Vengeance's inversions are zero-G rolls, which means that they are providing floater airtime throughout the inversion. The fakeout inversion also feels like floater airtime to me. So I don't think it has any hangtime, but some coasters will feature hangtime in some inversions, for example Wicked Cyclone, Outlaw Run, Monster, Copperhead Strike, Full Throttle.

Does hangtime count as airtime?
@visionist7
4 жыл бұрын
I don't count it as airtime
@zacg_
4 жыл бұрын
These terms are a question of language and not science so how you use a word may vary. But the reason some people count it as airtime is because in an upright position airtime refers to forces that oppose the direction of gravity that are either equal to or greater than the force of gravity which means you no longer feel the force of gravity. It is described as airtime because you feel like you're either floating through the air or being thrown into the air. The force vector for hangtime is in the same direction with reference to your body as airtime but due to the inverted position of thr train your force vector is in the same direction as gravity and you do not feel like you are floating in the air. You feel like you might fall out of your seat. However, because we are used to thinking of the forces in reference to the orientation in which we sit in our chair and the forces that train itself exerts on us then hangtime is at least analogous to airtime, regardless of whether or not someone feels it fits the definition.
