So hard to believe Monk wrote this as an 18 year old. What a wonderful arrangement that really captures the Monk treatment.

I've been on a Round Midnight binge for the last couple weeks, listening to dozens of different renditions, many from the usual suspects - Miles, Chick Corea, Joey Alexander, Joe Pass, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pat Martino, Bill Evans, Gil Evans, you get the gist. This is one of the clearest interpretations I've heard of what Monk intended to express. Great song indeed, and great rendition.

Perhaps that's the difference between jazz and classical music. The jazz guys will do their best to honor the composer but also want to express their individualism and use the composition as a vehicle for their own expression through improvisation whereas the classical musician attempts to provide an arrangement closest to the composers intent.

One word: Stunning! More words: So many layers, wonderful chord voicings. Hats off to the arranger. Hope to hear more jazz from both of you.
