THELMA Movie Review | June Squibb | Richard Roundtree | Parker Posey
Фильм және анимация
All hail June Squibb! The 94-year-old gets her first leading role in this delightful action comedy. Squibb, an Oscar nominee for 2013's "Nebraska," stars as a grandma who gets scammed out of $10,000. When she realizes the police aren't going to investigate, she literally takes the law into her own hands, tracking down the suspect on a scooter with the help of a longtime friend (Richard Roundtree in his final film role). Writer-director Josh Margolin based the film on a scam that someone pulled on his real-life grandmother, who's now 103 years old. (Be sure to stay through the credits for a treat.) Co-starring Fred Hechinger, Parker Posey and Clark Gregg. In theaters now.

I share in your enthusiasm! A wonderful little film, small scale, humanist, along the lines of "The Holdovers." Nicely sketched characters and performances by June Squibb and Richard Roundtree and Co. The film touches on life's aging realities--the desire to retain independence, isolation, etc as you both have pointed out. Charming, funny, sweet and endearing. We need more of these films back in the theatres!!

So glad you loved it too, Marty!
Saw "Thelma" yesterday. It wasn't quite what I expected, but there are a lot of scenes that linger, and I loved that grandmother/grandson dynamic, which I don't think I've ever seen in a movie. June Squibb and Richard Roundtree are wonderful, and ultimately very touching, together. Would love to see their names come up when awards season rolls around.
You’ve sold me on selecting ‘Thelma’ to review for our weekly paper, over ‘The Bikeriders-for now. Thank you! 😋👏🏻

I was feeling young an spry too until Christy said $3.00 matinee. Those days are long long gone. 🤣🤣🤣 RIP Richard Roundtree going out with a bang.
My boyfriend and I are seeing this tonight near Toronto. We're both middle-aged and have old parents with dementia. I am amazed that June Squibb is performing at 94!!! Really looking forward to it.

Oh gosh, sorry to hear that, hope you enjoy this!
I grew up in the “other” valley … The SGV in the Pasadena area. It’s always fun to see familiar locations on the big screen such as Mildred Pierce and Grapes of Wrath.

He's so lovely here!
Watched it twice virtually from the Sundance Film Festival back in January. Once by myself and then played it again with my parents. We all loved it. And I’m happy for June Squibb finally getting to be #1 on the call sheet. I remember back in the ‘What the Flick’ days when Alonso would say he would replace a certain actor in a bad role with Betty White. Now I hope (for as long as she’s still alive), he’ll say replace them with June Squibb.

@@BreakfastAllDay love June Squib, been dying for someone to give her a lead ever since Nebraska!
Glad to know this is geographically accurate and has Christy's stamp of approval.

We don't give these things out haphazardly, as you know.
Some funny parts, but also some parts that reminded me of my Mom who has passed away. While we like to think Seniors are active, they are not always and the fragility in the movie is definitely true. The grandson saying he would miss Thelma when she dies made me tear up and hit close to home. Not a bad movie, but not great either.
Fabulously entertaining movie. Saw it this past weekend at the Loft Cinema in Tucson. Good crowd. Well made movie. June Squibb and Richard Roundtree had great buddy chemistry.

the geography was perfect and realistic, I was looking at that too. I was thinking in my head that the cart was going for a long distance, and then, ding, they got the reminder to charge it. I thought in my mind, "f'n perfect!"

Lots of clever details like that!
Christy loves to go full Californian....lol. Speaking of Parker Posey, "Best in Show" has popped up a few times for me recently which tells me I am overdue for yet another rewatch, it is a top 10 all time comedy and I even put it ahead of "Spinal Tap" on the Christopher Guest movie list.
She rolled over that bed with the gun with as much panache and style as any bad-ass!
I'm happy that the inspiration for the title character lived to see the film get released. It sounds like a really fun movie. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I wish my mom was still with us because I think she would have seen herself in this a lot. She would be 94 just like June (who resembles my mom's sister who more recently passed). Saw this in sneak last week and loved it. Fred as Danny was an especially wonderful 'discovery' for me. My friends and followers are probably tired of my promoting Thelma.

Hey guys! For my KZread channel, I’ve been wanting to start doing Colab reviews like these. But need a way to do it virtually like you guys are. I’ve tired multiple different apps. But none make it so the screen goes side by side like your guys screen. To where we can just have a natural conversation. Can you guys inform me on what app you use? Thanks! (:

Is she the new Betty White? She will be cursing or doing other outrageous things but with senior citizens? 😮😅😊😂
A sequel from Thelma and Louise??
Great film, 4 out of 5 UFOs
FOURTH movie in a row where I feel the title is just LAZY, after Brats, Tuesday, The Bikeriders.... "Thelma". Really. Another movie where the writer said "hey let's title the movie the main character's name!" Still, June Squibb is awesome. She will get a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy, you wait and see.
