    @Noah Leach it really wasn't though. it built beautifully and if you listened to the lyrics they tell an incredible story through the full album and it makes a lot of sense for this song to be the longest and more complex with different influences because it's the climax of the story. what is with the obsession of shortening songs as much as possible 😭

    While I don't revisit them much now, this album meant SO much to me in that the release came the hardest day of my life to date... One of the most toxic and terrible relationships but also what I was planning to be my future for the last 3 years of my life. I lost all of my money, I lost all my possessions with value, lost all of my studio equipment. For a month all I had was this album. Sleep Token has an incredible talent with the ability to create massive soundscapes and absolutely FILLING that space to allow the listener to naturally experience the scale. With a voice so haunting yet beautiful, Vessel is the perfect vocalist to round out and compliment every microsecond of each of this band's tracks. I have a special place in my heart for this band for saving me when I needed it most, and for the absolute individuality they bring to music and with their unique sound and the experience it provides the listener with. The only thing I think that will top this album is if Tesseract is able to keep the momentum and style they shared with War of Being. This.... This is healing music. I can feel my soul restoring with every single track on Take Me Back to Eden.

  • @003bsgj
    @003bsgj Жыл бұрын

    Consider this. With all the references, such as Chokehold and Alkaline, the layering was also in sync with the lyrics in the chorus. Those last 40 seconds or so was a dramatic shift in tone. However, Vessel 1 told you multiple times in the song... he has a patient violence. Each section of the song was like an attempt to appease his relationship. This is the penultimate song in a 3 album, saga. So in context to this, you can hear the journey in the lyrics, but the intensity rises as he tries to hang on to this dream of a life with this person. Until it finally boils over. He tried to be honest in the first section, real in the second, revert to sweet in the third, but it just blows up at the finality. He broke, lashed out. Anger and anguish. But what he really did in that aggression was just restate what he had expressed from the beginning... I will travel far beyond the path of reason. I'll do anything for you, because I love you, please just love me. It's just you can't love yourself so I have to let you go... and thats the last song. The next song. The epiloge to this tale of sadness.

    The thing is though most people don't have the context or even realise this album is the final in the trilogy as they came to sleep token with the summoning, or maybe alkaline but haven't really been there since 2016 so it is understandable how it could be missed.

    Good point. People will come to this album and wonder what's next. There may not be a next. This was what's next. I would encourage everyone who has enjoyed their music or who has connected to the lyrics in some way, to go back and listen to the albums. Do it in chronological order, to see this story unfold. It was a beautiful concept that brings you through the trials and tribulations of an agonizing relationship. They even give you a binus instrumental album, cause the music is that good.

    SUPER late but this right here should be read by a lot of people and I feel like it’s such a large overlooked part of this band. I’m a huge Sleep Token fan but for one thing and one thing in particular, their lyricism is INSANE. Something I’m a sucker for, I can see why objectively speaking these songs feel drawn out but that’s all on purpose and that purpose spans back to what I like to call Season 1 lol. I’m sure there are multiple bands who have done this before but ST did it so well

    @@er4din903 True true. But its been a really long time since I've just sat and listened to music for pure enjoyment. Either doing these videos, listening to songs for students, writing music and hearing it in all its stages, or putting on an album and having to pause it every few minutes because my kid needs something, I'm used to a life of interruptions. Most recent example was listening to the new Cattle Decap. Amazing album, and I probably had to pause it about 20 times during the process. So while the pauses might impact my perception, im sure they do to a degree, I'm pretty used to listening through distractions just because that's how my life works lol

    Apart from the melodies, production, Vessels voice, composition, the passion and the pure art...the lyrics are what stands out the most in this song imho. One thing Sleep Token does so very well is space. When it builds to the energetic point right after "Take me back to Eden, Take me back to Eden" is a good example of what I mean and what I love about them. His vocals are kind of in the middle, but they don't get drowned out by the instruments. Perfectly clear. The production of their music is just amazing, even from a pure listener with little to no music intelligence. They've always done this well, but it feels like they perfected this with this album. I always appreciate the videos! I love your insights

    It’s worth noting too that his breath control and lung capacity really shows off during parts of this song. Each line during the chorus is quite long, hard to pull off in one single breath for me, whose lung capacity is just okay 😂 I also think the reason why the transitions work for me, as jarring as they kinda are, is because each section of the song still goes back to the same chorus in their own context. It feels like it pulls it all together

  • @Cheshir3

    @Cheshir3

    Жыл бұрын

    Same. I had little problems to pull off the clear vocals in Vore, sometimes even more without taking a breath as he does. But Take me back to Eden is endgame. Takes immense control. I managed by now most lines, except the last „my my those eyes like fire“ because of what is going on before that and the first „Take me back to Eden“ the one right after is eaaaasyyy because it is so high. But the first, because it is somewhere in between with the notes for me and sucks out all my air, kills me most times when I am unprepared. (Just big fan singing along ofc, not training/ professional or anything but i have the ambition to sing all of these songs well)

    The other really fun thing they do in this song is they play the full chorus (my my those eyes like fire…) in three different musical contexts…the first time when the guitars come in at the beginning, the second time over the sort of R&B/hip hop groove, and the next part modulates the key up, and when the guitars come back for the third chorus it’s in a different key.

    I love this song mainly cause it has all my favorite genres in one 😂 but I agree the transition was a little jarring, I personally liked it because it had a shock value to it. Great reaction btw! Informative. I hope you react to Ascensionism it's another favorite of mine and it has a more smooth style.

    Love watching your videos. Great analysis as usual. I love sleep token tbh but at least you give your own opinion and don't bow to the masses. This album for me personally is a masterpiece from start to finish.

    like a half a year late to this, but i think these jarring transitions are well executed and super intentional theatrical scene shifts - you have a dreamscapey ("i dream in phosphorescence...") intro where he's he's blissed out but then starts drowning in his dream and wakes up into the second verse ("well yeah, i spit blood when i wake up...") from there he starts to have a healthy conversation with himself but can't really reconcile it all and just goes completely apeshit with the outro. a bunch of people hate the fadeout on this but it's a great songwriting indication that this is the rest of his day until he passes out again and repeats this process

    I can respect someone's opinion more when they can admit they aren't into something. It's much easier to feign hype because something is popular. It's nice to get a genuine reaction and an educated rundown on a very complicated song. I really am liking this album, I've never even heard of sleep token before this and I went back to listen to older songs and I understand what you mean. They seem to have found their sound.

    I could be off base somewhat but I feel like this song when listened to with Rain before it and Euclid after it is really in total the culmination of every song and cover that they’ve done up to this point. Musically, lyrically, and in terms of the story told between the two together. This song is great on its own but when bookended by the other two it really conveys the emotion of it all

    I’m a big fan of this album and this song specifically but I actually agree with you for some reason the transitions in this song feel more jarring to me than in others. Part of me wonders if maybe it’s because of how good each part is individually, especially the chorus, that when it shifts to a different verse it’s almost like “wait I wanted more of that” if that makes any sense?

    Mark you should check out the “middle” Sleep Token - this is when a lot of first wave ST fans joined the hype train with songs like the Offering, Bloodsport, and Alkaline. They’re one of the few bands that has actually gotten heavier as they’ve progressed, but you might enjoy reacting to Gods which is probably still their heaviest song (tied with Vore). For me it took a bit to click because I didn’t really know what to make of it, and a lot of it is just how diverse their sound can be and how well they do both the soft and heavy parts. You never know what you’re going to get with them lol

    As much as I LOVE this album (honestly one of my favorite albums I've heard in my life), I actually agree with you on the transitions. I think they're on to something, and I think it's really important to music overall that they are really asking us with this album to break down our close-minded expectations that artists "stay in their lane" and adhere to genre expectations. I don't find their transitions as jarring as you do, but I do agree that that is an area they stand to improve/build on for future releases.

    Saying "Djent Is Not a Genre" is also the name of the new record of Periphery. I must recommend a listen of the new album, they are all amazing musicians and Spencer, the vocalist is just incredible! They are also masters in making long and impressive tracks, like Dracul Gras over 12+min long, Atropos also an amazing track and maybe my fav from the record Wax Wings. This vocalist has an impressive range!
