I own 2 of them . The only problem I've had was the handle broke . Customer service at zebco is great . Received new part in less than a week . My pb was caught on an old 33 classic . It was a largemouth weighing 9 1/2 pounds . I only use zebco due to an industrial accident .

Worth every penny. My lady don't use bait casters, she needed a faster retrieve reel to fish lures in fast moving current on a river where we fish for striped bass in the spring. Add heavy hard fighting fish to strong current and you better have a good smooth drag. The Bullet does! I have been impressed. She has fished with the reel a year now.

I have a Bullet that I use for catfishing with 12 lb Trilene. I have the usual C3 6500’s, Okuma Citrix, and baitfeeders (spinning), and with a 2 oz sinker, the Bullet will cast further than most of them. It has handled channel cats up to 5 pounds very well, and I think it can do much better than that. This reel is pretty amazing!

It’s a very solid reel, just a tank. Besides the weight, it’s hard to beat. The rubber thumb push button cover can be ordered at Zebco or Tackleservice. It’s less than a dollar, plus shipping so order a handful or two. Just don’t use braid, it will cut into the spinner head which is almost $40.

This is a great reel for night fishing for stripers and wipers. It’s a bit heavy but when it’s dark and wet, you definitely doesn’t what to have to deal with a bird’s nest or wind knot. And the speed is perfect, about 30” per turn so you can get your lure/fish in quick.

I got mine not to long after they came out and really like it. It casts good with the right rod and just as smooth as my baitcasters. My complaints are sure it's heavy but it's so off balance is why you notice it. So I want to try a 5'6 light graphite rod with micro guides and add an oz or 2 to the butt to try and balance the combo. The rubber button is annoying especially with the reel making any rod combo nose heavy and makes one hand casting iffy because it slides around on the actual button underneath. Never use Armor All on anything, it just makes it crack worse when you quit using it. I've been playing with my bullet on an old 5'6 pistol grip medium rod with big guides and taped a 2oz sinker to the left side of the rod butt and it's made a nice improvement in balance and one hand casting. That's why I want to try one of those rod building kits and build one specifically for this reel. And come on, building and decorating a rod just seems like it would be fun.

SImple answer: Hell No. Not when my Zebcos from 1982 still work and say Made in USA on them. 33 Classic Feather Touch/44 Classic Trigger Spin (a 33 slung under)/ UL-4 Triggerspin (a mini 33 slung under). All of them will cast across the county and land exactly where I want them to land. The retrieves are slow, but I've never lost a fish due to that as long as I use the rod correctly - tip high. Even the little UL-4 has out fought some very nice trout of 16-17 inches using 4lb extra limp. The trigger spins balance beautifully and take the aggravation of tangles and delicates out of the equation when fishing from a canoe or a small tin skiff. I have some spinning gear, but at least one Zebco always goes with me because I never have to stop fishing to fix something. The Zebcos have never caused me any delays or concerns whatsoever in all these years.

Zebco has been legendary for years, but their quality has been mediocre when they went to Chinese manufacturing after 1995. I've owned a few 33s, 202s, and 404s over the years, but hate having to clean them regularly to get it to work properly. All of them kinks way too often. I may look into the Omega Pro. Cheaper, but looks like a good quality reel.

good review sir. I bought the same reel 1 year ago because i wanted to try a baitcaster, but I can't learn to cast it. It always goes to the left. I practiced and practiced, but my timing is tuned for spinning reel and this reel releases a little late. And u right, it is made of solid lead.

  • @nashvilleoutlaw

The thing I learned with baitcasters is the rod has to be matched for the weight of lures because you cast with the whip of the tip of the rod. So ether use heavier lures or try a lighter action rod. Spinning reels usually come with lighter rods but with spincast and baitcasters the monkey see monkey do crowd started swinging to the heavier and heavier and longer rods in the 90's. A little trick for practicing with a baitcaster is pull out enough line and maybe a little extra, then wrap the spool with tape. Now you can practice with little to no backlash while learning.

Man, I'm not hating on it because I've never tried it, but I couldn't pay 100 bux for anything Zebco. I grew up on a 33 and still have one rigged up on a 5 6 Conolon rod. Loved em when I was starting out, but I went to a nice spinning setup and then on to a baitcaster as I've progressed. If you like em you like em as long as you're happy, tight lines.

I've had mine for 2 years now and the push button breaks. I shouldn't say it breaks but it stops pushing the gear properly and so when you push the button the lure just drops. No locking so you can cast. It's happened twice now. My Zebco Omega Pro is a champ though. Smooth and very reliable. Never an issue in the 5 years I've had that one. I think I might get a Zebco 33 platinum.

Hello.. have you checked the spinning head to see if it wobbles any when spinning it when you have the cover off? That can cause a gritty feel sometimes when reeling in and cause a little jerky feeling when casting. I'm dying to get this reel , but I'm scared to because that's a typical problem with zebco spincast reels. -- edit 3/14/20 -- I finally got his reel a few days ago and took it out once. I know it probably needs a little break in time , but I wasn't very impressed with the casting with the line that came on it. I was getting better casts from a baitcast reel with half the weight..Lol.. I'm thinking about putting it on a shorter pole that I can whip out faster and maybe 20 pound braid and a 1oz sinker to see how it casts then. I'm wanting a good long casting deadline catfishing set up if I can achieve it with the bullet.

Have 2 of these that are 2 years old. They are junk. Cleaned and lubricated on a regular basis. Zebco replaced one that the pickup spool would not come off. The big problem is that 90% of the time after a snag or reeling in a fish the pickup pins will catch on the next cast and snap your line and sometimes loosing your lure. This is a known problem with all bullets and Zebco has failed to improve. Also the pickup spool threads will eventually strip out because of soft metal whereas the shaft threads are stainless. DO NOT BUY. NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS. I'VE EXPERIENCED 3 NOW AND EVERYONE HAS THE SAME ISSUES. FAIR WARNING.

I just can’t imagine any scenario where I would pick this up over a spinning combo or a casting combo...except maybe to hand it to a girlfriend or a kid who is out fishing with me and doesn’t know how to use a spinning reel. But if that were the case, I wouldn’t waste $100 on a top of the line spincast reel for a beginner to use.

Let you in on a little secret... Some pro's are using the spin cast reels in tournaments, you just won't see them on their decks. They using them for skipping far under docks and in high wind conditions (no backlashes means more casts which can add up to a paycheck at weigh in.) Due to the stigma of these reels being a "kids" reel, no pro wants to be seen using them.
