Second clip: 1:36:43
Quote from the book:
"You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between. This is a sharp time, now, a precise time... we live no longer in the dusky afternoon when evil mixed itself with good and befuddled the world. Now, by God’s grace, the shining sun is up, and them that fear not light will surely praise it."

He's not corrupt. He's a religious zealot. He thinks he's doing what God commands.

He probably would have been a lot less bloodthirsty in that case.
In real life, Judge Danforth was critical of the Salem Witch Trials and helped bring them to an end, and he wasn't present for any of this. Miller conflates him with a different person, William Stoughton, who was actually much worse than the movie depicts and basically bullied judges and juries into finding people guilty, ordered the execution of pregnant women after they had been excused from punishment (this was ignored, and he threw a tantrum over it) and was probably motivated less by religious zealotry and more by a desire to impose authority.
