@@dartagnanjames8069 Problem is that they don't have access - legally - to the Silmarillion- except for a few little bits - all they have is the Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings and it's appendices to work with, so they can't use Illuin or anything from the first age. Of course one could simply argue that it is folly from the outset to attempt to adapt the events of the Second Age without the Silmarillion, and the fault then lies in the show's very conception.

Another excellent video. And such a tragedy that Melkor managed to drive the Valar from Middle Earth and into seclusion in Aman. But props to Varda for leaving a reminder that they're not too far should Melkor start getting too big for his britches. And also props to Ulmo, who I love for remaining unconfined in Valinor to instead dwell in all the waters of the world to watch over all of Arda. He really is doing his best to look out for the world. He has been and always shall be my favorite Vala, and as shown here it's not just because he's the Lord of Waters, though that is a big boost in the mind of this water-aligned guy.

I love the fun fact notes and this one in particular. You don't always realise the impact someone has on you and the world until something of this magnitude happen! Great video, my dude. The passion and way you speak is as powerful and beautiful as Mandos passes his Dooms. Though, the one correction I kind of noticed is that Laurelin is the Female Tree while Telperion is the Male. Remember? That is why the 2 Maiar chosen are Arien, of Vana and Tilion, of Orome……Arien was a female Maiar that was one of the few “fire-spirits” that was uncorrupted by Melkor? Tilion was a male Maiar that was often reckless and would not stay on the path all of the time, hence why sometimes he can be seen in the sky at the same time as Arien or even block out her light? Lol, just a small correction. 🤓

I'm new to this whole silmarillion lore, well, I had an idea what it is, but It just recently came to me after watching your first upload about Eru Illuvatar's and the Ainurs Song. Eru never told Melkor to stop what he's doing. He juat lets him do hi thing and lets it all unfold. It is maybe He already knew the outcome OF IT ALL! We see that there was beauty in their song and there was discord and corruption. Such as we have alwys seen throughout the different ages there was always conflict but also beauty and harmony. It's just saying it simply Eru just wanted to "spice things up" and being the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being that he is, it's just a mere passing moment.

Not to be a lore nerd but there is a sentence that I'll paraphrase in which Eru is showing the ainur their creation. He also tells Melkor that even his deeds and works will be tributary to his plan and Arda's beauty. So yes Eru knew that Melkor would be as he is. Unlike Men his fate is sealed up in Arda. Whole other tangent though. ;P

Facts about such things that Tolkein unintentionally continued through his death is incredible. Such as this Nasa one where even past his time he still has a touch on people. Coincidence or not there are many overwhelming awesome facts about tolkein, my personal favourite is rather morbid but cool nonetheless... The year of his death, 1973. Some may think nothing of it, but reverse the numbers to 3791 and you have the rings, in order, as described for middle earth... 3 Rings for the Elven King's under the Sky 7 for the Dwarf Lords in their Halls of Stone 9 for Mortal Men Doomed to Die 1 for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne. These fun facts such as the ones you are adding to your videos at the end, are what makes this whole Tolkein world very remarkable and overwhelmingly interesting for someone as simple minded as myself.

During the Time of the Lamps you say there are no Elves, no Men, no Dwarves, no orcs, etc., so I think you are referring to sentient humanoid races. We know that some sentient beings like Tom Bombadil and Ungoliant were created during the Ainulindalë, the time of creation or soon after by Eru Ilúvatar. The flora and fauna were in Arda when they entered it for the first time created during the Ainulindalë. Another interesting twist to Ungoliant is that Melkor and the Ainur who came to follow Melkor's discordant musical contribution created Ungoliant. Later tried she tried to kill Melkor and the balrogs, his Ainur allies, had to come to his aid fighting their own horrific creation.

    1) Thanks so much! 2) Yes I am secretly Jack Whitehall. But don't tell anyone 🤫 3) The pronunciations are something I've worked hard to try and get right. Both the Silmarillion and LOTR have sections on Elvish pronunciation at the end, and both Martin Shaw and Robert Inglis notoriously get some things wrong. However, to be fair, these early videos are probably not the best ones I've ever made, and I certainly won't claim to have nailed every single word. In the last video I horribly mispronounced Mearas, and it's still a constant source of daily shame 😅

I'm sorry if this question sounds blandly technical, (most of mine do) but when, roughly did animals appear on the scene? We know that, certainly by the third age, they have horses and rabbits (coneys) and dogs and probably cattle, goats, pigs and sheep. Tulkas, it is written had no need of a steed, since he was faster on foot, and Orome, the hunter "delighted in horses and hounds" so those at least existed in the first age. Did any single one of the Valar create them all, or did they spring into existence as part of Eru Iluvatar's theme? Anyway, I hope that you're making progress on your other projects, and I am looking forward to your next new video. Best Wishes.

We're told that during the Spring of Arda (so right at the very beginning of Arda's history - just after the First War where the planet was made) "beasts came forth and dwelt in the grassy plains, or in the rivers and the lakes, or walked in the shadows of the woods." Interestingly, singing birds came a little bit later "for these things waited still their time in the bosom of Yavanna; but wealth there was of her imagining."

@@tolkienuntangled What did come through seems to address my question pretty well, and I'm grateful. Perhaps the full answer can form the basis for a future video, or part of one. Possibly a Fun Fact, though I can't see much humour in the topic. Anyway, Thanks for the reply.

I never really see Melkor as a nerdy fantasy villain (nothing against nerds I’m one myself) I imagine his fortresses filled with horrid demons, the kinds you’d see in an R rated film (exorcist, evil dead) Whenever I watch a good exorcism film I say, “Yeah Morgoth would do that.” He could drive people mad with the most disturbing of illusions. He is Tolkien’s Lucifer after all.

since melkor's early army is all balrogs and evil maiar. and Tolkien has said there was no more than 7. or else would've dominated MIDDLE EARTH. This leads me to believe its possible this was only the number given to the few balrogs which survived the elder days and the war for the sake of the elves. This is because I cant imagine there being so few balrogs fighting and possibly being defeated in all those long years. this means there could have been dozens if not hundreds of Balrogs and other evil Maiar serving Melkor, yet only the 7 Balrogs and a few unspecified dark spirits actually survived to welcome Melkor in his return to Angband. After all, if only up to 7 ainur joined him in his discord. The discord feels much more lackluster. I like to think some of the Luciferian influences we see in Melkor might have stemmed from paradise lost, or even if it was only Catholic influences, the bibilical understanding is 1/3rd of the total angels in heaven becoming fallen. Obviously this is all speculation, but I think the amount of evil Maiar was much more significant, if 1/3rd of the Maiar joined melkor, and the vast majority of them were destroyed in his early wars and especially in the loss of Utumno. leaving him with the few Balrogs that survived, likely in Angband and Utumno's undiscovered lower dungeons. With orcs being a newer creation at the time, picturing the few prototype orcs and 7 balrogs make the struggle very underwhelming. And Tolkien is seldom underwhelming (Edit: I know Ainur cannot be "destroyed" I just imply their physical form and the strength of their spirits, likely being diminished if not unhoused during these battles)
