At least with Sonny Gray there was hope, very good pitcher in Oakland. Gallo was a disaster to begin with, strikeouts were a huge problem with the Yankees so the move just never made sense to begin with

My dad likes to say, “Not everyone can play in New York.” Playing in this town, especially for the Yankees, is a lot of pressure and sometimes higher-than-realistic expectations from fans and coaches to be great. And if you can’t handle it, you will buckle, and fall into a slump. we saw that with Sonny Gray when he pitched for them. I believe that if Gallo gets traded, he will do exceptionally well for his new team.

He has single digit sac flies in his career. That's absurd. Guy's issue is not making contact. Unless they shift the pitcher to the outfield so the pitch has no velocity when it gets to the plate, its not going to matter.

It’s a rather startling stat that many people don’t notice. Gallo has always been a bad hitter and having only 2 sacrifice flies for his career is a good indicator.

As a Dodgers fan, I’m glad to have him on our team now as he has been a great addition to our roster.

It's too bad, he's a good guy, great outfielder, has a strong arm, and a good base runner, just hasn't worked out for him here. Maybe a change will do him good.

The Dodgers are 17-4 since acquiring the slugger. On the flip side, the Yankees have been slumping ever since they shipped Gallo out of town. The team is now 6-14 after having traded away Gallo.

Gallo desperately need a change of scenery. I think the Yankees fans constantly booing him is getting into his mind. Being a Yankee can be immense pressure if you don’t perform well. Yankees fans want a championship and don’t have time to wait for players to find their groove.

The reason why the Yankees won so much before the turn of the century was because they focused on building up their young players and utilizing them more than just stars. Now, the Yankees focus on either established or star players, and they've had a relatively lack luster millennium so far.

They've been to 18 postseasons, won 4 pennants and 2 rings and won more baseball games than any other franchise in this millennium. I agree with that success the Yankees should have closer to 4-6 rings but hard to call it lackluster.

😂😂😂😂😂 that is by far the dumbest fucking thing I’ve ever heard of in my entire life.

I just watched Dalton pompey play for the Guelph royals in ontario. It's crazy to see him play for the jays then scoot down that far right after.

People forget the situation when the Yankees traded for him last year. They were playing .500 ball and literally didn’t have a lefty bat in their lineup other than the switch hitters. They were in panic mode and couldn’t risk alienating their fan base by giving up on the year and selling. So they got 2 lefty bats in Rizzo and Gallo, and in Gallo’s case, the Rangers continued paying his 2021 salary. So trading for Gallo made perfect sense, and Yankee fans knew damn well what they were getting into and were fine with it at the time. What Yankee fans (and front office) weren’t expecting was his lack of incentive to make adjustments and improve as a hitter in 2022, If you look Aaron Hicks, who had an equally poor start to the season, at least he’s looking to improve and since June he’s played pretty decent. It honestly saved his job for now. For Gallo to only have 37 hits on July 28th when his teammate has 38 home runs is just an indictment of who he is as a baseball player and a teammate. He just has a flippant way of doing nothing to help the Yankees win, even in the field. That’s what infuriates the fans the most. There’s really no excuse for his performance this season. As a Yankee fan here, I say good riddance. The sooner he’s out of the Bronx the better it is for all parties involved. EDIT: 39 home runs for Aaron Judge after the walk off last night. Aaron Judge I fucking love you. Cash you better pay the man!!!!

100%. Big red flag during Spring Training when I heard him say "I am the hitter I am" If Aaron Judge had that same approach as his rookie year he'd be in the same boat as Gallo. He has the same approach every at bat. You'd think once in his head he'd think "maybe I should slap this ball to get out of my slump" Nope same approach. Runner on third? Same approach. Pitchers throwing high strikes cuz I can't hit it? Same approach. He has been given every chance to the point that I'm thinking he has Epstein-level information about the Steinbrenners to be failing to this level.

@@KTF0 when you mention the runner on third, the video of Mike Trout reacting to him only having 2 sac flies in his career is so telling considering they played 19x a year when he was in Texas. Not only that, but I heard this stat from a SNB crew a couple years ago that when you bunt against the shift your BA goes up by 70 points ON AVERAGE. I don’t remember the exact moment but I remember one of his 37 hits was a bunt against the shift and he had the biggest grin standing on first base. You’d think he would go back to that but nope. The MLB banned the shift for 2023 and removed any of Gallo’s incentive to improve as an externality. To his credit though, I read his comments in the press this morning and it sounds like he understands how badly he screwed this up and how heavily it’s going to weigh on him. I can only hope he regains some of his form wherever he plays next and move on.

I can't believe how many everyday players have batting averages hovering near or below the Mendoza line over the past several years. Used to be guys like that weren't in the majors very long if they continued to hit that poorly. It really is sad how almost every hitter just swings for the fences but many can't hit over .240 to save their life and near every pitcher tries to throw in the upper 90's on every pitch but if starters pitch anywhere near 200 innings in a season or relievers pitch more than an inning per outing their arms fall off. All anyone cares about is homeruns and strikeouts. The game has lost a level of excitement that was there not even 10 years ago. At least the game is always changing so in another decade or so things will be different, maybe better, maybe worse, but different nonetheless.

I was at Tropicana field last year when it was announced the Yankees had acquired Joey Gallo. Several fans in the stands had already started talking about it having read the news on their phones, and there was much chatter. The roar from the (mostly) Yankee fans in the stands when they put it up on the screen confused me. I had just moved to Tampa from Texas, where all the Ranger fans I knew believed it was "Joey Hit Ball" or "Joey Strike Out". I couldn't understand why everyone was happy to get this guy.

Two guys he reminds me of are former ranger and current bust Chris Davis, and Adam Dunn. The former went off the rails after injuries and amphetamine suspensions. The latter, while a good lefty power bat when he was on, had some pretty bad sub-mendoza line seasons. Whether or not Joey Gallo winds up like either is to be seen. All I know's that it puts the Yankees in a tricky situation towards the deadline and his free agency.

@@darryberrymemes5739 speaking on average alone which I know isn’t the best way measure. he’s only hit above .210 twice and above .250 once. He usually floats right above or below .200. Defense is the only thing he’s been consistent at, but finding a guy who has defense and can at least move the bases isn’t a hard thing to find. But adding another guy who strikes out a ton and typically only hits for power didn’t make much sense. They already had power hitters.

He’s on pace for like 22 by the end of the year. He’s not been the guy we expected. But hey it really doesn’t matter we have bennitendi which is a huge upgrade. Also, he looks so much like Rizzo with a helmet and clean shaven I think he just got tired of being confused for him.

I’m not suprised it didn’t work. The Yanks didn’t need a low average, high strikeout power guy on their lineup when they had enough power hitters in that offense. I get that they didn’t give up a lot for him and needed the left handed bat, but Gallo was a bad fit. Yankees needed hitters, not analytical experiments

Carpenter now has a little league fence in right field.

A guy that batted .180 the season before, and .220 with the Rangers that season. I hope those weren't blue chip prospects they gave up. Cuz this dude didn't exactly crater. He just took a step back.

Capital idea! You need to get on the phone to Mook Manfred, QUICK! It could be the only MLB rule change under his command that everybody would endorse.

Part of Gallo's problem as a Yankee is that he sucks at the plate, but is dangerous. So when he played with other shitter teams were more careful with him, but in newyork the mindset is to go after him, exposing that he isn't really that good.

He was a Texas Ranger, what did the Yankees Expect, but then again, IKF was also a Ranger, and he's one of their best Infeilders.

The mafia has him shook. The Gallo brothers are pissed! The Lucchesi family invested some money on him. Bad bets!!!

I'm glad that double agent Joey Gallo might find his way back home to Texas. I was heartbroken to see him go but the prospects we have gotten are doing fairly well for us. I hope he can go somewhere where he can find his stride.

As a Rangers fan I saw gallo back when he was in AA ball all the way to the Rangers. I truly believe the Dodgers will be where everything changes. The Rangers did Gallo extremely wrong, he was home grown he loved it here, wanted to stay a Ranger, and the fans loved him. Yankees trade happens and throws him through a mental loop and screws up everything at that moment and becomes the most hated man in NY, even saying in interviews that he doesn't even leave his home to go anywhere. As far as the Rangers go I really don't believe a possible reunion with them will go well as much as myself and other gallo fans hope, he will do better without the Rangers.

go back to Texas! Astros fan here and I want the best for this guy.

Gallo is not a failed experiment because of anything he has done. He came over to his favorite childhood team and tried to hard at first. He was doomed to fail when Boone with his awful lineup construction put him in the #9 spot. Of course pitchers are going to pitch around a serious power threat when he hits between IKF and DJL. Put Rizzo in that situation and you will see the same thing. Put Gallo between Judge and Stanton and you will see his bat light up opposing pitchers again.

He would be an excellent pickup for the Padres. Melvin knows how to construct a lineup unlike Boone. I doubt he would put a dangerous home run threat like Gallo in between players who his for average. Surround him with power threats and you will see his bat return. Plus I am sure he can be picked up for little more than his remaining contract so penny pinching Hal can save a few bucks.

Now can we also get the MLB to scrap the shift ban now that Gallo is no longer be playing for a big market team?

Gallo couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. As a pitcher I'd be laughing on the mound every time Gallo came to the plate because chances are he'll strikeout.

I don’t think Gallo enjoys playing on the big stage tbh. He was more comfortable in Texas

Wild to see what's happened with Gallo. Whatever started the slump, it (& the boobirds) clearly got into his head and if I had to guess from his faces post-K, he's started to believe he actually is garbage. Hopefully a change of location will help remind him he's still an exceptional ballplayer & athlete (so much so he not only plays in the MLB but was sought out by the Yankees and given THIS LONG a chance), and will be able to hit like one again. He's still a fantastic glove + walker even at his worst, and seems like a great guy. Wish him well

Benintendi should do fine, he didn't mention that Kansas City is not exactly a park to hit home runs in so I would think that he could be around the 15 Homer, 30 plus doubles maybe even 40 plus

Benintendi is a great outfielder, but his batting stats aren’t all that impressive. The heart of the team is Judge, Stanton, Rizzo, IKF, and Trevino.

He does a good job on the pitching side generally, but he is abysmal with hitters

@@yell0wberry oh i know he has misplayed on that side, and i really hate defending him, but i cant deny he tends to deep pitching staffs, especially on the relief side. I now feel dirty for defending him.

I notice that whenever a star player goes to the Yankees it’s either boom or bust with no in between.

Sonny Gray comes to mind as "not able to play in the Bronx" and he's doing phenomenal away from New York. Gallo's another one. His glove is good, his plate discipline is decent, but he's a literal Babe Ruth: either hits a home run or strikes out. Hopefully whatever team Gallo ends up going to will be the worthwhile change in scenery. Not everyone looks good in the Pinstripes, and sadly Gallo is among them. He's actually better against the Yankees than as one. I wish him the best of luck in his career.

It wasn’t an experiment . Joey gallo was a tested player with great ops every year. High obp and hits tanks. He has not done any of that . It was more of an experience than experiment

You should look up "Joey Gallo bunting" on the 'net. He's been working on beating the ridiculously exaggerated defensive shifts since late in his Rangers stint, but one video's headline indicates he's "begrudgingly bunting." That would be a shame because, as you can see, he's very good at it; after all, it's the easiest way to make bat-on-ball contact. One wonders if Yankees management was actually more begrudging than Gallo. If so, this partnership never had a chance. If not, Gallo's career could be at a crossroads when/if MLB bans infield shifts in 2023.

I could buy rhat, yankees seemed hellbent on turning every hitter into a 3 outcome hitter the last few years.

Some time I wonder the idea of a lefty power hitter hitting in Yankees stadium is just hype.

The players are hyped bc of the dimensions of Yankee Stadium. It has far more to do with the stadium than the player most of time.
