The Worthy 4.6? - 2005 Mustang GT Review!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Had a blast reviewing this car - with 300 HP and 320 pounds of TQ, this thing definitely got my heart going and was a ton of fun to drive. Big thanks to Patrick for the opportunity!

My '05 GT has about 23k miles and averages 22 - 23 mpg on 93 octane with a K&N cold air intake and Superchips 93 octane tune (only powertrain mods). 282 RWHP proven on the dyno. I'm completely pleased with it - then again, I'm an old guy lol! My gripe is the ridiculous insurance rates I pay here in NC for a car that is rarely driven by someone with a clean record and pretty far along in life. (I posted this identical comment to another thread).

You guys are kindred spirits. When I hear Mustang I also instantly imagine a 2005. The best Mustang you can own is a 2005 with a Coyote swap. That would have the power and the looks to match. I just can't believe how far Ford went to fuck up an icon.

Seeing the interior of this car brings me back. I was 18 years old in 2008 and I purchased a new 2007 GT. Had the car for 7 years and put more than 100k miles on it. I was so young when I had this car. I also experienced so many things for the first time with this car.

I owned a 2007 Mustang GT (mine had the 3:73 gears) for four years or so. Most reliable car I've ever owned hands down. Put a KN filter in it and that was it. Beat a lot of cars - 350Zs, 240SX Turbo, 300ZX Twin Turbo, Camaro Z28s, modded Mustags of all kind, etc. Still, wasn't the fastest car I had owned and while cold weather it was great, it had awful heatsoak. Awful at high speed, 130 is white knuckle territory. Ran 13.70-13.80@104-105mph at the times i went to the strip. Easy to launch, and the 4.6L V8 sounds amazing. Handling was fun, Ford did a nice job on that. It was totaled in an accident. After that I bought a 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 which was really fast, 100mph felt like 60mph. You could comfortably drive it at 130mph. Ran 13.3-3.5@101-104mph at the strip pretty consistently, cold weather obviously made it faster and you had to hit third just right. Still one of the most impressive cars I've ever owned and stock one of the quickest. Wish I had never sold it. Everyone should have a Mustang GT in their life no matter what model, most of them embody a 'muscle car' feel.

They really don't get enough credit I don't think, especially now that the 5.0 is out and well established. The best way I can describe the 4.6L is just enough power to get you out of trouble, and more than enough to get you in some!

But warning you, it has to be a summer, second car, unless you don't mind spending a fortune on gas!! I got a black, 6 spd convertible with 12,000 miles on it, for about $20,000

I always hated mustangs ....until I bought one! I picked up a black 05 GT 5 speed for $2,700.oo it had a few issues, cracked windshield non functional gage package worn out tires, but the price was right and I needed a small daily driver . On the plus side it had verifiable oil changes every 5k miles. I was only going to keep it for a short summer then sell it off ...that was 3 years ago. It's a great reliable, responsive, fun car to drive. If this one ever gives out ....I will probably buy another 😁

I totally agree my man! I have only had experience with the Mach 1 and 05 GT, but I could easily say that I would choose the Mach out of the two. It comes stock with absolutely amazing acceleration/power and it handles great too. The 05-09's are a bit more refined in the interior and stuff but overall I would choose the Mach 1. But from what I have heard, the Cobras are amazing too!

Ok so question, I am looking at a 2005 V6, it has 177K and selling for just under 5k, it appears to be in perfect working order, and has a warranty. I am debating between this and an exact copy of my old car(it was destroyed in a crash five months ago), because the copy of my old car is 2k cheaper, and i can almost pay cash for it when my tax returns come back but doesn't come with a warrenty and has not been in production since 2007. What do you think?

Warren Rhinerson get you a 2v lol. can get one for about 4k. very reliable motor and sounds good👌 that's just my 2 cents

Warren Rhinerson at 177k i think it could be pushed under $4k or just above, thats just looking at the condition of mustangs around me (owned by friends and family) but look at it for yourself, be critical, and drop that price. My ex got her 05 v6 for 5k at 122k miles but it also had aftermarket hood, exhaust, intake, and stero system. so take that for what you eill, Goodluck!

it depends what you want. i have a 05 v6 that ive had since 2011 bought it with 115k miles and now its at 176k. Havent had any issues what so ever and if proper maintenance is donde the car should hold thier own for well 200k probably even 300k if you decide to keep it that long. 05 - 09 gts are getting pretty cheap also so there is that to consider, but v6s arepretty fun cars also. There is going to be a lot of people discuraging uou from getting the v6. too many v6 haters out there but its not a bad car. drop a intake on it and a tune some exhaust if youd like and you have a pretty fun little DD.

It can with mods. Stock they're a bit quicker than say a Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo/LT1 Corvette/Camaro, 350Z, etc. Fastest I ever saw was an '05 GT that went 13.69@105.23mph, I remember because I thought the dude had it modded but all he did was order the lightest package possible. If it's the 5.7 Hemi in an older stock Challenger/Challenge, you should walk it. The newer ones are much faster. This gen of Mustang GT is bulletproof and super reliable, but I'd personally get one with the Coyote V8 after owning an 07 GT and driving a 2015 GT a friend had.
