ford nailed it with the styling of the s197 mustangs...brought back the original mustang styling. But, like they did before, changed the style to something that does not look like a mustang at all. The new "mustangs" have great power, suspension and tons of techno gadgets buts its not a mustang. They did the same thing back in the day. I will be keeping my 07 GT till the end. I am doing a coyote/trans swap though. As far as the techno crap in the new mustangs...they can keep it. American muscles cars are suppose to be basic not a driving arcade/light show inside lol.

I have an 07 GT that I bought new (actually ordered from the factory). Aside from Saleen HID headlights, it's bone stock. However, a stock GT is still lots of fun. It handles well for a live axle vehicle, and the engine has an extremely broad torque band that makes it fun to pull. I think Ford nailed the stock exhaust, loud enough for folks to know it's a V8 with a nice burble when the throttle is lifted. What Ford solved was the bus-like droning sound the previous Mustang suffered from. This car sounds great from the inside at 2000 rpm. The shifter is a bit soft, but leagues better than the one in the previous version.

I’ve got an 07 mustang GT premium that I bought two years ago with 37,000 miles on it. It cost me 15,000 and it a show quality car. I’ve put on it a CAI with a tune, and Borla Stinger Axle back mufflers. This added 10% more hp (Dyno tested). These Borla mufflers have no drone and have a loud, mean exhaust. They aren’t cheap at $600, but the technology and build quality is outstanding. All stainless steel four inch and easy to install. Mine has the manual tranny with the 3:55 rear end. The heated seats and Shaker 1000 makes it a drivers car. It’s a garage queen in the winter and I take it to all the area car shows after wintertime . It’s redfire with a red and black interior. I had a professional paint shop put a white boss 302 stripe on the fenders and door panels that put me back $2600. They also buffed the entire car’s clear coat. It is uniquely mine and I’ll never sell it. It goes to my kids when I die.

I absolutely love my 2007GT. I bought it used with a little over 36,000 miles and 10 years later this month have over 161,000. I changed out the stereo to a Kenwood with a Nav system, but other than an alternator and normal maintenance and repair, this car has been a dream to own. Just like Andrew, my car still turns heads and I actually get closer to 19 miles per gallon with mixed driving in an Urban environment.

Hi Andrew, love this great in-depth review and all the effort you put in. As someone who wants this model of Mustang as a dream car, to see it in such depth really helps soothe the pain of not owning one! I watch this video regularly as a result. Just a quick question - I saw the pinned comment and am wondering why you sold the Mustang? I want to be aware of any issues or problems with these cars before I eventually take the plunge and if you came across one that made you sell I would love to know about it! Thanks!

This is my favorite post-classic Mustang body style. I considered getting a 2017-18 for the extra power but realized I would miss my 2006 if I traded it in (and kind of wasteful to have two). My black convertible GT with red interior and red Le Mans stripes looks super sharp and gets many comments. With rear wheel drive, you have to limit acceleration on turns or the back will spin out (I have almost done it a few times). Top down at 138 mph is a rush (only where safe!). Great standard sound (my brother, Dick, worked on Mustang exhaust/sound at Ford NVH in Dearborn).

I purchased my Mustang GT 2008 brand new so I have it for 12 years, it is Visa Blue in color, since getting it I installed cold air intake, flowmaster mufflers and purchased a Bama tuner from American Muscle which I was abled to tune the car myself, after all those mods it felt like a completely different car. When I shift gears there is no lag from going to the next gear it leaps the car forward. Then for the outside installed a hood scope, side scope, C stripe and rally stripe. One day I am stopped at a red light a old gentleman with a walking cane was crossing the street he walked in front of my car to get to the pavement, he stopped right in front of my car turned toward me and gave me the thumbs up, I get the thumbs up alot mostly every-time I am either driving my car on the street or at a gas station

Great review,,awesome job. The 05 to 09s are some of the best looking mustangs ever,,the retro look is what my generation has been waiting for forever, I was born in 1967,,,as a kid in the 70s, I sat in many a 60s mustang backseat. I also have an 07 gt mustang. Everything you said was spot on. It is a great car for the money,,the fun factor is sick,,,especially if you mod it out. I did the gt 500 throttle body, 3:73 gears, 93 performance octane tune, pypes long tube headers, jlt cold air intake. This thing rips,,,probably a 365 hp right now with 380 to 400,, torque. You get thrown back into the seat,,lmfao. However, the s197 can get water leaks especially on the passengers floorboard,,,as well as those annoying plastic geared acuator motors that control the air flow direction always burn out., royal PIA..! I just keep it in the floor/defrost mode n no more clicking or replacing cheap plastic geared motors. One more flaw to point out. Hood bubbling as far as the paint is concerned is a huge factor. From what I've read,, Ford supposedly had a metals cross contamination dilema in thier factory on thier aluminum hoods. Many s197s have this hood paint bubbling issue. Ford does not care about helping you out either on it. You just have to resurface it and paint it when it goes haywire on you., I'm in that process now.,,,,either repair your hood or go aftermarket hood. Some say the bubbling will eventually come back,,I say so what ,,,have fun with it,,and repair it when you need to. Anyway, I love your Vista blue metalic n stripes. I'm hooked.!

My Mustang feels faster but it's not a huge difference. Throttle response is definitely improved. However, I added the Steeda Underdrive Pulleys at the same time so I'm unsure what made the biggest difference. Of course, the increased intake sounds do make it feel faster. (I have stock exhaust.) I'm running a 93 octane tune. The best mod I've made so far is an MGW short throw shifter.

I’ve put about $2,000 in mods on it and I am having so much fun. I go to most of the area car shows and just got back from the 2018 Sturgis weeklong Mustang Rally. There were all kinds of mustangs of all the years but by in large the most of them were the 05-09 s197 body style. The 2007 sold over 160,000 mustangs and were second in sales numbers only to the 66 year mustang.

Regarding the leather seats, Use KIWI Brand shoe polish(Neutral color) It will maintain supple and wont allow cracking. KIWI does make a grey polish. Put it also on the upper dashboard. Using liquid protectant that absorbs into the vinyl or leather will eventually cause cracking when sunshine heats the dash or seats over time. Put it on, let dry & buff, that's it. Great for motorcycle seats too. Walmart or some shoe stores carry KIWI

The stock ride height is very good, I'm able to make it into driveways and over the notorious New York pot holes without any scraping or bottoming out. As long as you don't add larger side skirts or any type of splitter to the front and rear bumpers, you shouldn't have an issue.

Can you explain how the 'hill-holding clutch' works? I have driven this very same car, but I didn't even know there was such a thing as a hill-holding clutch.

  • @zupliez

    @zupliez

    7 жыл бұрын

When you have to stop in a hill (stop sign, traffic or whatever..), you can just push in the clutch to a certain point, so it holds the car steady, and don't roll back. So you don't need to use the gas or brake pedal. Especially when there is slow traffic in hills, this is super convenient, its faster, easier and saves the clutch for a lot of work...

I looked it up to see if my car has it. I have a 2006 GT. The information I found said it wasn't added until 2011. I don't need it because I have quite a bit of experience driving a manual transmission, but it would be handy on really steep hills. The more you drive a specific car, the easier it gets. Any car new to you will take a little time to get used to.

They're great cars! Younger buyers need to be prepared for the insurance cost for a GT. I'm an old man, I haven't had a ticket since Ronald Reagan was President... and I pay over $700 dollars a year for full coverage. If you're in your 20's, with a decent driving record, you'll pay at least twice that, probably much more. Best way to go, is to save the money to pay cash for the car... that way, the insurance won't kill you.

***** I should make it clear, Aaron... If you carry liability only, and you crash your car... you are S.O.L. Liability only covers the property you damage that belongs to someone else... If someone crashes into you, their insurance pays to fix your car... so, it pays to be safe out there!

I have almost this exact car. Cons: 1. The interior is horrible. Like playskool toy fort level horrible. I can pull the plastic trim above the door glass off with my hand, then snap it back in. The parking brake housing wiggles like it wasn't put in correctly. The brushed silver plastic feels awful. The vinyl panel on the doors comes off after 30k or so miles. The seats suck. I dont care about the interior, but objectively it's the worst interior of any car I've ever been in, and it's not even close. 2. The factory clutch is too heavy. 3. The motor is pretty gutless after about 4500 rpm. It kicks hard, but the power tapers off. This car needed the 03 Mach 1 4V 4.6. 4. The wheel hop is substantial and kind of annoying. Around town you don't notice the solid axle, but if you go from a stoplight it can get away from you. Also the front end dives under hard braking. Pros: 1. It sounds way better than the coyote. It has an old-school, nasty tone to it. 2. The styling is the best of the s197. It's the cleanest and not a busy as the coyote cars. 3. The transmission itself is very good. Its stronger than the mt82 in the coyote. It feels notchy enough without being overly difficult. It's stronger and can take more power. 4. The brakes are pretty good and the pedal feel is really good. For me, they have the right amount of bite without being too touchy. Hope this helps. I really love the car, but it does have some drawbacks like any other car.
