THE WORST WEATHER EVER?! P&O Azura Cruise Vlog: Day 4, Funchal, Madeira!
In this video, we're docking in the port of Funchal, Medeira (Portugal). This is a completely new port for me, so I can't wait to show you what you can get up to if visiting this island as part of your future holiday/cruise!
This video is part of a series, where I'm taking you on a 1-week adventure to Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Madeira and then finishing in Tenerife! I'll be onboard for one full week, and this series will cover each of these ports, plus life onboard P&O Azura, which is one of the cruise ships from P&O Cruises.
If you're new to my channel, hello! I'm Fraser, and I'm hoping to use this channel to introduce as many people as possible to the cruise industry. It's no secret that I absolutely fell in love with this mode of travel/holidaying a few years ago, and I want to now share my passion with you guys, by taking you on my travels with me! So, that's enough typing for now - hit that 'subscribe' button and let's go - I've got SO MUCH to show you!

O dear Fraser that rain is not kidding. What a flip and not a single person on the road 😮. Glad you made it down the hill and back on warm ship

We went a few years ago. Went up inthe cable car, came down on the toboggan. We still had quite a walk down hill. Yes, your leg muscles burn 🤣😂. Love your videos x

@@FraserAtSea At least the custard tart and beer for less than 3 Euros was excellent value. Must remember that when I'm there in January next year. Thanks for the tip.
We are doing this trip in October on the Ventura, sooooo looking forward to it.
Working my way through your vlogs and loving them. About to take my first cruise and it's solo with another booked so love seeing the solo perspective. Also thanks for introducing me to the Neffex song i've now heard on a couple of your videos - love it!

Another great video Fraser! Its always nice to see a 'real' day when things go wrong, the heavens open and you just have to make the best of it. Next time pack a decent waterproof in that big bag of yours. Looking forward to another of your Vlogs.

Thanks, David - always great to get some positive feedback, so thank you! I think I’ll deff take your advice of waterproofs in the bag for future - Madeira was horrendous, haha! Thanks for following along! :)
Glad you managed to dry out . Hope it’s not so wet when we go in March .
Oh my gosh, you poor guy!! That's traumatic! I was looking forward to you doing the toboggan, as you were. So sad! (I saw vloggers Ben and David go down it and was hoping you would too. So fun!) Tart and beer for the win. 👍😊

Ha, I’ve never seen so much water fall from the sky so quickly - of course it happened when I was enroute downhill…!! I’m actually going back this summer, so ‘watch this space’ and I’ll hopefully take you down in a toboggan, haha! Thanks for watching, Tammy!

Yes we have, really good. We can see the the Azura down below in the sun, while we’re in the clouds🥳. But it’s not rained as bad as you had it!
It’s amazing how much the weather changes in Madeira. Me and some friends got the cable car up in December and hot sun at the bottom then wet and windy at the top so we went straight back down! Absolutely loved the Christmas market/lights plus went for afternoon tea at Reid’s palace hotel which was fantastic.

Totally agree with this - I couldn’t believe the change - I guess it explains why the place is so green and lush!
Personally I’d have taken the cable car then gone to Java for a coffee then to the room But hats off to you for braving it 😳👍

In hindsight, I probably should have done the same. Instead, I ended up soaked to the bone…! Haha, thanks for watching, Martin!
If this is the same cruise as I was on, I missed the rain! I went back to ship after lunch and saw it from there! I always photograph the schedule on my phone to avoid carrying it around - would have saved the wet one too!

Useful advice that I wish I’d had before that day - I’ve NEVER been more wet, haha! Thanks for watching!
Saw Azura in port the other day - we were on Virtuosa doing a similar route to you. We were in Madeira last Friday and had beautiful weather. We got soaking wet in Casablanca - not nice 😅
@FraserAtSea
Жыл бұрын
Ha, it never rains but it pours in some of those ports, huh? I bet Virtuosa is a stunning ship for the warm weather routes! I’ve actually only cruised on here for colder weather itineraries (U.K. and Norway) - did you enjoy?
Enjoyed that. Rough weather for you, but quite amusing to watch :-) . Did you realise that the toboggan only takes you about half way down. There is still about 30 minutes to walk back to the sea front. Think the best advice is do the toboggan early, before the queues. By the way there is an Alehop there as well. Keep up the good work. One other thing you said it was only £14 in Beach House, but you have already paid for your meal (the £14 is extra)!
@FraserAtSea
Жыл бұрын
Hey Jim, thanks for watching! Oh, I had no idea it only takes you half way - that makes me feel slightly better, haha! Also, delighted you’re also an Ale Hop fan - I could potter around for so long in there…!
Sorry to hear that your missed out on the toboggan ride, fingers crossed for next time. I can’t believe how hard it rained. Just to confirm in the Beach House that if there’s no price on the menu is that item free? It looked really nice in there. And yes, Eggs Benedict for the win.
@FraserAtSea
Жыл бұрын
Toboggan - oh, I know - I was gutted! Re Beach house, they do charge a small cover charge, then the items with no price are indeed included in the cover fee. I’d recommend!
Loving your videos we have a week in Madeira in September hopefully the weather will be a bit better , got a couple of cruises before that on arvia and ventura

That rain was terrible! Even worse than a Glasgow rain shower 😅 we are loving your videos - watching in preparation for our Azura cruise in a few weeks’ time. Can I ask - how was the sailing itself - was it quite rocky or mostly ok? We wondered if the sea days to and from Madeira might be quite choppy. Thanks for sharing all your experience; looking forward to the next vlog!
@FraserAtSea
Жыл бұрын
Honestly - Glasgow rain showers have nothing on that, haha! Thanks for the feedback - glad you’re enjoying! You’re going to have a great cruise - Azura is a great ship, and what they’re delivering on her at the moment is a really good product :) So we actually had quite ‘rough’ weather, but I think the ship handled it really well. To be honest, I don’t seem to get affected by the motion - just pack some seasickness tablets and you should be fine. Our choppy day was indeed enroute to Madeira, but nothing extreme - you’re just really exposed at that point! Hopefully this makes sense/helps reassure you!

@@FraserAtSea You must have said it at the beginning but l missed it. For entertainment purposes only!
Spain and Portugal have a very afternoon orientated day, solar noon is like 2 - 3pm with their timezone. I mean even in midsummer - sunrise is like 7am. If you want a winter sunset 6pm you pay the price. You are still at 33 degrees north and its midwinter - yes its a mild climate and you get sun - but it is 10 hours tops and 6pm - 10 hours = 8am.
@Moneytane1976

UK is different, solar noon is like 12pm or even earlier in winter and not even 1pm in daylight savings, hence the change, thats why sunset is like 3.50pm in November and December, if you had a Spanish time zone it would be like SR 9.35pm SS 5.20pm in London.

Hey! I think alcohol can only be brought onboard at the embarkation port. If you board in Tenerife, buy a bottle at duty free and take that into your cabin with you. Usually very difficult to get on after that, as bags are always scanned!
