Hi again, great to see you wander about in Rotterdam. The pier where the ship docked has changed so much! I worked at the end of the pier in 1980 and at that time H.A.L. had left already and there was no terminal in use anymore. You surely had the best chips in town!!! We used to grab some in the days I still worked for the customs. I can only imagine what it must have felt like when you walked back over the Swan (that is what Rotterdammers call the bridge) and the ship is there waiting for you and so many people are going to work or things like that. Whenever you come here again with good weather take a Spido-tour to see the docks, it is really worth it. Great video again, brought back memories! 👍

Oh wow - I can only imagine the changes since that period - amazing! Honestly, it’s such a brilliant feeling to be walking over that bridge looking at the ship, knowing that you’re going to be getting fed and warmed in a matter of minutes! I’ve heard good things about the boat tours - on my to do list for next time! Do you have any plans to return?

@@FraserAtSea For 22 years now I'm living in the east of the Netherlands, near the German border. But Rotterdam has changed so much that it doesn't feel as 'my town' anymore. But when I go I always need to go eat 'poffertjes' haha. I hope to make my first cruise in september, no real plans yet.

you certainly never disappoint with your vlogs Fraser, and the time and effort you put into them is incredible. The content you provide is very informative, insightful and you manage to always throw in a few chuckles along the way too. Oh my word, Netherland chis and mayo, my mouth is watering as I send this comment.. the more may the better, mind you, the more chips the better also haha. I always get a large ccone, pretending to myself that I will have to leave a few, and I would feel good about leaving some - however, I never leave a scrap haha. I am making note of all your Virtuosa blogs as we will be following in your footsteps on Virtuosa at the same ports of call on 10 march, so, only 7 more sleeps..yayyy take care and I look forward to the next Terry

Was on this trip in Early February, good weather, super modern ship, really great value, From that berth, this enormous ship has to reverse about three miles down river! Big wing mirrors!!

Yeah, I found it remarkable that the ship just reverses down the river - I’d never seen that before! Glad you had a good trip - I do love this class of ship!

@@FraserAtSea We are on the Orchestra in September round the Med. and again in November in the Red Sea, a different vibe but still a lovely ship, our third on this ship, and our tenth with MSC.

Really liked the open pool decks on board. Appreciated info for Rotterdam to get out and explore & drift about. The Amsterdam connection helpful. The ship does look like a welcomed sight 😀

Yeah, the pools on Virtuosa are actually one of the biggest I’ve seen on a ship. It’s a huge capacity ship granted, but good to see a pool suitable for length swimming (even if I do just watch the swimmers while I eat pizza…)! Thanks for watching as always, Shawn - good to see your name pop up!

Excellent vlog. You captured a lot on your day in Rotterdam. I always get a cone of chips in the Netherlands but dislike that the sauces that are given smother the chips and make them soggy. On one of my previous visits to Rotterdam I went on an excursion to Delft and the Hague, highly recommend Delft Superb sail away pictures. I thought the dinner menu was fantastic. Wines are inexpensive. Well done.

Hey Renato, thanks! Glad you enjoyed, although I disagree on the chips - the more sauce and calories, the better, haha! I’ve heard really good things about The Hague - will need to get that on my list for next time!

You could have taken the yellow water taxis in Rotterdam. Super fun and absolutely not expensive (don’t know what the real price is. But could have saved so much money)

I’ve seen a few other vloggers posting about the water taxis recently actually - they look a LOT of fun! Will keep that on my list for next time, for sure!

Absolutely brilliant Frazer, Do you think my dad would cope with the walk into the city ( he's 78) no walking stick or anything. You said it's flat so that's good 👍 Dad was stationed in Rotterdam in the 60's and he's desperate to go back ☺️

Hey Sonia, hmm, it’s flat but just totally depends on his fitness etc. worst case though, there’s loads of taxi’s, buses and a tram too, so loads of options! Sounds like he’d love a trip - there’s loads of Southampton departures heading over there this year by the looks of it!

Hi Fraser, just found your channel (& subscribed & 🔔) really appreciate the amount of content you have in your videos. We are on virtuosa end of may to Rotterdam so it’s been great to watch the series. Question.. we have pre purchased the show….. do we have to book a day / time once on the ship, as there doesn’t seem to be any option from the app / website. Also…. Specialty dining…. Hey! Ah, glad you found my channel - I loved Virtuosa both times I’ve cruised on her! For the shows, you’ll book onboard - I always recommend doing that early, to avoid missing out on your preferred date on such a big ship!

For Speciality Dining, it’s a good bit cheaper to buy the experiences via the package in your online portal. Hola doesn’t matter - it’s just £17.99 all you can eat from memory, but Butchers Cut etc are all cheaper if booked in advance!

Hola! How far in advance can you book the shows on Virtuosa, I get onboard 8 weeks today (Not that I’m counting)

Hey! I booked about a month before getting onboard - you could still reserve when onboard, but subject to availability so I’d advise doing beforehand (and saving some ££ as a result!)

Hey! Good question - from a SHIP point of view, I really do enjoy Virtuosa - she's actually one of my favourite ships. There are certain elements of the experience itself (food etc) that some people don't like/feel is 'up to par', but I'm really happy with the ship itself - she's a beauty!
