My favorite discount food store recently put in self-checkout registers, almost they've added the most annoying feature to them. The machine gives you literally 5 seconds to scan each item before it reminds you to "PLEASE SCAN AN ITEM, SELECT ANOTHER OPTION, OR FINISH AND PAY." After every single item. As if you've forgotten what you're doing in that 5 seconds and needed a reminder, when what's really happening is that you're MOVING AT A NORMAL HUMAN PACE AND CAN'T FIND THE FUCKING BARCODE ON YOUR BAG OF AVOCADOS. LEAVE ME IN PEACE, MACHINE LADY. YOU ARE HELPING NO ONE.

Soooo true!!! I also believe that when you are in a hurry it takes about ten times longer with selfcheck :/

I shout back at her too, when she keeps saying unexpected item in bagging area, and why is this happening to me!!!

This is why after I'm all done and the machine goes "Thank for you for shopping." I respond with "Thank you for not pissing me off... much."

I work in a supermarket and to kill the time when we are on self checkouts we play a little game called 'noob bingo' to get house on noob bingo you need a customer who needs a bag, doesn't place item in the bagging area, needs assistance and doesn't have a points card. If you score them all, you got a noob. Also, if you do anything embarrassing. Don't worry, we only go and post about it on Yammer in a group called funny things that happened at checkouts. No shit lol.

I won’t use self checkout. I don’t work there, they don’t pay me to check my own items out and I don’t get a discount for them not having a cashier.

I'd rather queue at a staffed checkout, that's how much I hate them. ALDI is fun however, I play a game called "race the cashier", see if you can bag your items quicker than they scan and pile them up on a collapsible tower on the smallest bagging area known to man/woman/non- binary.... oh I give up already 🙄 Plus it's fun if you have a sequence of questionable items in a row, just to see if you get a reaction 😉
