Came to point this one out. Especially seeing as it's a windy place, it just makes sense to seal it through the winter to save up on the power bill. They probably haven't gotten around removing the sealing, it's early March. Bald wouldn't necessarily know that; I doubt they seal doors in England. :P

Brother, I’d stay there in a heartbeat. It’s actually pretty nice, even the room. I once stayed at a motel here in the states where I wasn’t sure if AIDS or the axe murderer was gonna kill me first.

Let me share my experience. I once stayed in a hotel in Paris where I could see the sky from my bed through a hole in the roof. Pigeons were gathering around the hole, presumably they where hunting the many cockroaches in the room. No bathroom, but a shared shitter in the hallway (yes, in the hallway, no door). I paid approx £20. This was before TripAdvisor.

@@DailyBald I bet. What I sometimes do is fold up a blanket and hang it over the board so my ankles can tolerate it. Ideally though I avoid all beds with a footboard at all. Not sure why the bed makers assume everyone is around 5 feet 8 or less.

He didn't say it was bad, just the worst rated in the city. It could be that in Dnipro hotels just don't get really terrible, so this place scores low relative to everything else in the city.

Ooh, I’m so glad you made it to Dnipro! I thought about recommending that area to you many times in the past. I was on a short-term work assignment there about 3.5 years ago teaching English for 3 months and I absolutely fell in love with It! Wonderful, kind, strong, pragmatic (all at once=Delightful) people and in my mind, the perfect combination of the preservation of wonderful old Eastern European traditions combined with the forward-looking, positive attitude of the youth. And plenty of lovely off-the-beaten path Soviet adventurizing! :) Enjoy your time there- I can’t wait to go back again for a visit!

To be honest, some of the other hotels you have stayed in on your travels have looked worse than this one!

When I was in college (years ago) we played a drinking game called "Hi Bob". When we watched the Bob Newhart show, every time someone on the show said "Hi Bob", we took a shot. My husband and I were discussing playing a similar game with your videos, every time you say "Soviet". We decided that we probably wouldn't last two minutes, and would need multiple bottles! 😆. You should go to the "dodgy" part of town and see the old Soviet factories!

The locals in the beginning interrupted him from telling yall the difference between letter Г (G) in Russian and Ukrainian. In Russian it's just G like in "Good". In Ukrainian it's the voiced version of H, so the word HOTEL transferred into Ukrainian as ГОТЕЛЬ (last letter is just the sign of palatalization of L, a Slavic feature). The voiced H instead of plain G is well-known as the special feature of Ukrainian talk across all the former USSR.

If you look carefully at the balcony concrete, it's got several large cracks running through it. I think that is the reason it is sealed.

For 15 quid I’d stay there ,by the way how much is 15 quid in USDOLLARS ? And if you need a frig. That bad swap it out with a working. Frig. The maintenance/ housekeeping will gladly have one for you or get a room that the frig works !

I visited the Soviet Union nearly 50 years ago, as a teenager with a school party. That hotel is shear luxury compared with the places we stayed. I still remember the food all these years later. Along with the babushka behind her desk on every floor of every hotel, who would check that we were all in our rooms in the middle of the night. And the showers - if they worked - were a wonder to behold.

Yeah I also remember them when they reached the 2015 finals, I really wanted them to win it because they really deserved it and it would hve been nice to see an Eastern European team shine, maybe if they had they wouldn't have gone bankrupt, who knows. I'm 99% sure that it was called FC Dnipro. And by the way there's a new "successor" team created recently called Dnipro-1 I believe.

It's actually clean. Most of soviet plastic has yellowish tint.

I think out of all of my channels, I look the most forward to seeing yours the most. I'm not sure why, but super relaxing and chill to watch.

4:40 these old windows are sealed up this way because otherwise it's vert drafty. Also the bathroom was clearly improved upon since soviet times - the toilet, sink, bathroom and tiles are all modern.

In Texas we call those "potted" plants. "Pot" plants are something completely different! 😃

I chose the best hotel on that entire trip, the Quality Inn Mazatlan. And they complained about it non stop and decided to move out thew next day to a fancy one ( i.e five times the price, on a windy rocky area with no beach in middle of nowhere ). But not me. I refused and back they came an hour later with their tails between their legs accepting that I am the greatest hotel finder. Old baldy keeps it real and refuses to stay in fancy pads just because he makes a few quid nowadays.

Balcony is sealed for heat preservation. Your windows and balcony door were also "old soviet" which is synonym for "full of holes". Therefore, all such windows would be sealed with paper before cold season and unsealed back in spring. That what we used to do until we changed those windows

Not bad at all. The mini lobby's on the upper floors in pretty cool. I never see that here in the states. It would be nice if they'd open up the balcony. The only thing I can think of is they're trying to prevent drafts, heat loss and higher utility costs. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers!

Floor looks clean, bathroom sink, toilet and bath all look shiny and clean, sheets look clean. This is all that matters really, who cares what the furniture looks like. I think any hotel owner who has clean rooms, and gets good reviews about the cleanliness, will always do well, regardless of the overall standard.
