I keep up with the service on my stock 96 & stuff like this is good to know for sure. Mine wound up doing this same thing for a slightly different reason.. going about 20,had just come out of a particularly interesting downhill, hairpin turn with a dip in the middle..steepest,tallest mountain around. Was good to have gotten out of the curve &make it to the strata-way between it & another that was no slouch . But either way, at 20,pumped breaks a bit so less in the middle of that last curve ,even with the potentially hazardous roads, doing the appropriate speed with good tires ect & paying good attention, prey sure truck could’ve handled more speed .had good control on the drivers side & fresh grippy asphalt .Didn’t hurt that the tire sat down nicely between the frame & the road. Was a good solid THUNK!!& made plenty of racket between breaking & getting to the safest spot to stop. Fell like i could have driven it until it was ground down to a nub and fenders coming off ect. No need for any of that mess. Just saying. It sure sucks when it happens though. That’s for sure. Come to think of it , I don’t enjoy it when almost anything breaks .especially cars while moving. Don’t mind a broken butwiser botle when shooting a pistola or something along those lines but the inconvenient, possibly dangerous, costly crap all suck bean holes for sure!!seen a 1/2,dozen of the trucks this guy mentioned with the tire flopd out ,under or whatever. That’s a good thing to know & a good way to get a good truck inexpensively ppl see that and seems more dramatic than it it. I’m subbing to this guy and can say from experience. If you don’t know your ride ,whatever it might be,top to bottom…(always something new right around the next curve you can learn about your vehicle…get it.???.hardehar…for real find a cpl real deal guys who know your specific car, and same thing with forums..don’t get going in to many directions with trail riders & all (if you’re a stock oem’r type)MORE BS MISINFORMATION ONLINE THAN REAL INFORMATION ! That’s a fact Jackson.!!don’t get led down some a holes rabbit holes he doesn’t know he’s in yet. & definitely don’t try out engineering actual engineers .especially Japanese engineers who work for TOYOTA,Grmns-Porsche etc. youins git it. Takem easy and be good to ppl.

moral of the story... if your vehicle (any make, any model) isn't handling as it should from the factory, you had damn well better track down what is causing the out-of-place behavior and fix it. Otherwise it could be your ass or someone else's when you hit them. Some things you just don't let go, and suspension clunks or wonky handling are at the top of that list!

Absolutely! These Toyota's are especially dangerous with the ball being constantly pulled down on (not pressed down) by the weight of the vehicle. It makes the failure much more catastrophic than other makes.

No, sorry- what I mean is that, although a recall was performed, the part that’s installed will still eventually fail - it won’t last forever. I actually just ordered ball joints from Mcgeorge for my 2013 Rav4! $50 a piece, and the transmission filter was only 2/3 of the price of the dealer too. Other parts that should be oem only, thermostat. I put a napa thermostat in my 2000 gmc Sierra and it stuck shut in -20*F. I've had a bad head gasket ever since. The factory one wasn't even bad! I was changing my water pump, and thought a new thermostat was a good idea. Oem is only $20 at the dealer.

@@trentwheeler6161 thanks! That's great. I just wonder if Toyota has a third party parts website that's not run by dealership. Since if you have BMW , Audi , or Volvo FCP Euro sells OEM-identical parts that are much cheaper than the OEM parts with the car maker's logo on them. But I'm guessing a Toyota dealership will only sell Toyota branded parts (which may be more expensive). For Volvo IPDUSA is a great website too because they know so much about the parts, and will sell identical genuine parts direct from the supplier instead of through Volvo. So the part is identical but way cheaper. But I'm not familiar with Toyota parts prices, and it's possible Toyota doesn't overprice their parts like Volvo does or they actually make all their ball joints themselves .

(I copied and pasted this from a parts website since it's really enlightening about parts quality) About Toyota part. OES stands for Original Equipment Supplier (not a widely used term) OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer Genuine stands for Toyota or Lexus distribution channel It’s tough to argue that Toyota builds some pretty amazing vehicles which seem to NEVER die. However, when you find yourself on the hunt for replacement parts, the terms used can often be very confusing. Luckily Yota1 is here to help! It’s important to know that while Toyota does make some great parts, they actually don’t manufacture many of the mechanical components found on your vehicle. Most of these parts are sourced by Toyota from other amazing manufacturers. This means that you have a choice when purchasing parts for your vehicle. Knowledge is key! By knowing the manufactures that Toyota sourced and purchased parts from, and their specifications, will allow you to get the best parts for your vehicle. The following is a list of OE manufacturers that are sold by Yota1. AISIN- Several different components Koyo - Bearings Ishino - Gaskets and seals Denso - Electrical components 555 - Steering components OSK - Timing chain assemblies Kyosan - Fuel pumps We take our parts very seriously and we are dedicated to providing the absolute best parts for your vehicle. When we decide to offer a “OEM” part, you can trust that we have compared the part to the “Genuine” version and feel that it is an exact match, or better in rare cases. It’s good to know that when these companies manufacture parts for Toyota, they must meet the quality standards set forth by Toyota themselves. However, when the companies manufacture parts for the general public, they are free to do as they please. We continually keep an eye on the quality of these parts to ensure that Toyota standards are met. We do feel that most of the OEMs don’t charge their standards when creating parts for the general public, but we have noticed some parts that do NOT appear to be of Toyota quality and we choose not to offer these parts. (So when he says in the video not to buy 555 ball joints, this may be a case where the quality of consumer sold parts is not the same as the ones Toyota orders/requires from 555. They can cheap out on the parts they sell directly to consumers but Toyota will always demand the best quality)

Many of these Toyota’s are going on 20-30 years and have 300k miles on them. The lower ball joint’s are bolt in and anyone can put a new set it.

Me and my trusted mechanic installed air bags on the rear as I have a cap and my bed is chock full of stuff (I have no garage) being I have a 5' X 10' cargo trailer my mobile garage/shed which of course attaches to the frame mounted hitch that I had myself bolted on in order to have a secure and safe towing vehicle. I even added a rear view camera to assist with backing to the hitch of said trailer. It's the LB joints that scare me but my true blue mechanic has been straight up honest on all my repairs and maintenance items, so when I started noticing a Rattle on the front left side of my truck I had him do the pry bar test and test drive with me and he is telling me to not be a 'Karen' (JK) and stop being so 'hyper- schitzo' everything is going to be fine. Granted it's a 4 X 2 so I don't 'Off Road' and I know every pot hole on my local roads (Arizona I-40) and I know then where to be in the lane to miss the jolt from these devil's highway demons. A desert SW truck its entire life, talk about rust free, NOWHERE is there any. Just all the top-side clear coat has been baked to its skin on my 'Baked Arizona' TUNDRA, but she will run for hours out here with the a/c on recirc and nary over heat. Next worry the 200K starter, NAH... stop worrying Karen.

Don’t buy from “joe joe,” all he does is, use your credit card and buy from the toyota parts website that is accessible to everyone. But, one of the main reasons he was kicked out, was because he marked up prices and added a charge that he neglected to tell the customer about. For example, when I asked him for a quote for toyota OEM upper and lower ball joints, he gave me a quote for $450 and yes, I still have the FB convo to back it up. When I initially asked him, I heard rumors about him, so, I checked the Toyota dealership price that he used, and noticed that the price for upper bj($40) and lower bj($81) and confronted him about the price difference, he couldn’t give me an answer even though I used the same website and same dealership that he used to order parts for his “customers.” Now, $81x2=$162 plus $40x2=$80 =$202 plus Free shipping for orders over $100, and he quoted me $450?? Now, if you order from him, and he ends up ordering the wrong part, it will take the act of congress to get the correct part because all he is, is a middle man that just inputs your card credit info and uses the same website that is available to anyone on the internet. There’s a lot more reason but these two are the highlights. He claims to be a distributor for Toyota, that is a lie. But, to each their own…
