The sad part is the actual racing itself and the track layout were really, really good. It was a track design borrowed from the 4 Wheel Jamboree but it works. Everything about the production is just awful though. All the drama feels so fake, and the commentators’ catchphrases got old fast in just one episode. I’m not a prude considering that I’m a big George Carlin fan, but a lot of the production just felt really sleazy too for something that should be all ages entertainment. There’s nothing crazy objectionable content-wise, but statements like “having sex in a car wreck” don’t really belong in a racing program. You won’t hear anything like that on a NASCAR broadcast. The wrestling influence was pumped up to 11, and it’s not like their competition at the time wasn’t receiving criticism for the same thing. People hated the Katie Haas storyline on TNN Motor Madness, and the staged bits with the NWO truck and Chad Fortune do not hold up (although Chad’s commitment to playing a character has always been admirable). I don’t know why they would do the worst thing Monster Jam was doing and do it worse. I also have to give Gene Patterson credit because as bad as the staged bits are, he’s another driver who is very good at playing a character, and we basically got a glimpse at Colt Cobra without the mask. There’s also just way too many wrestling promo sequences. It’s like 15 minutes into the show before you see a single monster truck race

@@ryanmcmillin5313 Actually you’re thinking of the spokesman. That was Chad Fortune who drove all those trucks after that. However, the one driving the NWO truck was actually Rob Knell, and they didn’t even really hide it that well since they showed his face a couple times and Rob Knell appeared in interviews in the previous seasons when he drove for Bulldozer.

This honestly reminds me a bit of USHRA Monster Wars from 1993-ish where they had “mascots” deliver cheesy lines for each driver before their races. The only reason why that show kind of worked was that it was great for kids and they did a good job balancing the science/sport aspect of monster truck racing with the cheesiness. We also have to remember just how hot wrestling was at this point in history. 1999- 2001 was about the peak of the wrestling boom so it isn’t surprising that someone tried something like this. That still doesn’t excuse the fact that it’s terrible. They certainly didn’t have any sort of a target audience in mind when they made this.

I guess you weren't around for the Bigfoot team's debut of Snakebite in 1991. As someone who had watched monster truck racing since 1988 as a legitimate up-and-coming motorsport, it was upsetting. When I saw the animal head truck body and the "mysterious" hooded fictional character driver named Colt Cobra talking smack and making snake puns during interviews, it was like, "What the fuck is this shit!? What the fuck are they doing?"

  • @xenogameztv

Choice of trucks were great. At that time I still remembered Bigfoot and was excited to see this variation of Bigfoot, since the paintjob kept feel of the classical style from Bigfoot 8, and looked strong. Plus seeing Monster Patrol and Boogy Van for the first time was amazing, especially after hearing stories of Monster Patrol at my school, and former WCW trucks turned to regular vehicles. The track was great. And you wouldn't think that it wouldn't be scripted based off the races, had it not be for the final race of the first round between Bigfoot and Scorpion that pretty much "killed the show". Looking at it today, yeah it was very cringe. It's fine if drivers were to have a personality, but I can't see these drivers as characters. The villains were too obvious and cartoony, almost like a Disney or Nickelodeon kids show. Plus, Monster Jam World Finals would put on an amazing show one month later that turned into a tradition to this day. This could work like a kid show on a Saturday, if the competition is still real, but the interviews were gimmicked, kinda like how Monster Wars was back then with the competition real, but we get gimmicked promos, but it couldn't be from a promotion with that name trying to create a series separated from the USHRA or Penda series at that time. Also, one final note, I remember there was a show on Spike TV that deals with racing, either Motocross, Stadium Trucks, Buggies and such, but the drivers themselves are also characters. I can't remember it, but it feels like a spiritual successor to this show. Funny thing is, the show I am talking about aired late night hours, not prime time television.

What’s wildest is that Jennifer Goodwin was also working on TNN Motor Madness during this time dating back to November of 1999. However, after the filming of this show, she never appeared on Motor Madness again, as her last appearance with MJ was at the end of January from Anaheim and this show was filmed mid-February. Could this show have jeopardized her contract with TNN and Monster Jam, or was she let go and she subsequently got this gig as people knew she'd be on the "big show" on TV over the next number of months? The Scorpion crash was not part of the script and everyone had to start ad-libbing, which is another interesting bit about this night.

After wanting a new monster truck show after Trucks and Tractor Power and not being a fan of Grave Digger. It was very very very uncomfortable to watch. Even today it still is. The only good things were the track, seeing some of these trucks back on TV, Dr. Bonez and Scorpion(P.S., Hot Wheels, please make these. Especially Dr. Bonez.). Instead of hiring actors, bring in more trucks. I would've loved to see Equalizer, Bear Foot, and others run this course! Instead of scripted "behind the scenes" drama, show what ACTUALLY happens behind the scenes: Track setup, truck wrenching, driver's meeting, interviews, practice sessions, and anything else(Literally talking about a singular wrench would be better and more interesting. Anything's better than what this show used.). What hurts the most is the fact this was a rigged racing bracket though and(most likely) no qualifying session. This was at a time where even Monster Jam still placed some emphasis on the importance of qualifying, so for this to try and rival that with a fixed bracket was not a good idea. And a rigged bracket was a horrible move! Racing is arguably the most legitimate and competitive competition in the sport of monster trucks(it's not really easy to say someone else should've won a racing bracket like how the winning freestyle can be disputed), so to take the legitimacy out of it would've made for a very predictable series(Bigfoot wins nearly everything with Dr. Bonez getting a few one-off's was likely the plan). Sorry for the lengthy comment, but to think this is how some of the most popular trucks and some new names in the circuit were going to be on television from then on AND that this thought it could compete with Monster Jam is somewhat terrifying.

This was honestly really sad. It’s funny, but at the same time kind of un-pleasuring. Especially with the whole sex remark….. don’t think that slogan belongs in monster trucks. The whole scripting thing makes it absolutely non-watchable. Once you realize everything you’re seeing was laid out thoroughly.

NOW HOLD ON!! I LOVE Monster Trucks and I LOVE wrestling! And I think it would be AMAZING concept if they brought them 2 together in a show! I mean seriously, Monster jam madness 2 and 64 had WCW trucks in it plus I LOVED it when they would show trucks belonging to the likes of The dungeon of doom, The outsiders, Sting, Goldberg, Medusa, Hollywood Hogan, Macho man Randy Savage, regular Hogan, Nitro, The Undertaker, Stone cold Steve Austin, The NWO and Bret the hitman Hart! ALL of them had GORGEOUS trucks with AWESOME schemes and they raced pretty well! So wrestling and Monster jam go PERFECTLY! YEAH, PERFECTLY!

You think this is bad? I’m a drag racing enthusiast and the movie Fast Company is way worse then this show. The ending has a Funny Car crash into a plane that causes the plane to crash and explode in the pits. This movie was made in the late 70s and it has the usually girlfriend and team owner drama storyline.

@@colten53 ok and this was a tv show that had a script so what’s the difference? The Fast Company movie actually used real NHRA drivers in that movie for the driving scenes and it presented itself as a drag racing movie from that era. I think we can agree both are bad but until I see Monster Truck crash into an airplane and that plane crashes into the crowd I think Fast Company is worse but that’s my opinion but you would have to see it.

3:10 6:11 7:35 imao while watching this in school...... This show doesn't like a normal monster truck show. The script is just weird, and so many unrelated stuff are in it, like holding two girls, which actually fits the "lust" word (??). The typical script of a character with trouble getting back and taking the win is not that interesting. Thank u for helping me to get a summary instead of watching this full show.😶

As a Bigfoot fan myself, it’s weird to me that there’s a stigma around Bigfoot about them doing more legitimate racing than Monster Jam. The reality is that Team Bigfoot started a lot of things that annoy fans a bit. I love Snake Bite too, but let’s be honest, the Snake Bite driver character does make the sport seem a bit less legitimate. The Hot Wheels Monster Truck Tour is good for what it is but it is also more child-focused than Monster Jam.
