Man, this must be so stressful on you. I didn't like how on the last video comments said you separated too soon, and you were just trying to do as they said and now this happened. Your gut feeling is always right, you know your piggies better than anyone. I hope you're doing okay and that you're not feeling burnt out by your boy piggies.

Thank you! I really tried to stick through with these two bondings to the point of blood being drawn because people kept telling me I messed it up with Winston and Kai and should have kept them together. This just goes to show that you know your pigs better than anyone else!

@@ThePigRoom It really reminds me of when I first tried to find my rabbit a friend and the bonding was going really badly but the rescue kept pushing me to keep going with them. My rabbit ended up just like poor Winston and I felt so guilty. Thankfully he's happily bonded with a different rabbit now. I just hope you're not beating yourself up about it, you're an exellent pet dad and bonding is just really really hard, and there's so much advice and info out there that it becomes overwhelming

That was textbook bonding on your part. You fought the urge to separate, until it was necessary. Well done. If owners truly want their piggies together, this is a great vid on when you need to intervene and when you don't. Nipping, chasing, chattering, rumbling, mounting.. all normal. Teeth sinking into skin, tearing of fur, blood.. in comes toweled hand!

Unfortunetly it’s not only for males. It happens with females sometimes too. I had the same situation while introducing third guinea pig to my two others. Happened a lot when I was helping others with females (I’m temprorary home for piggies, had a lot of introducings for both females, males and harems).

Reminds me of when my godmother asked for my help bonding their boys. All seem well through the grids but even after a buddy bath for good measure, there was blood drawn. I had never experienced it so I was so scared! Luckily we found good bonding buds for both and they have wonderful homes. I wish you luck with all the bachelors. Definitely suggest seeing if you could find a baby boar. I bonded my males that way; one baby, one adult. It was easier than my girls!! Of course there’s also the option of neutering and giving them a wife or three

When I’ve tried bonding I use a square plastic bucket instead of a towel & scoop one of the pigs up to avoid getting bitten through the towel. Super easy to scoop em up in that square bucket the one I used was about 6 inches tall & about 12 -14 inches long . It worked great & said pig was happy as hell getting scooped out of the wrestling ring .

You cannot please everyone (humans) and it is so easy for people who are commenting saying ''you should have done this'' They ate your pigs and YOU know your pigs best and your instinct was right the 1st time. I was rather separate before blood was drawn and risk a pairing than risk a pigs life. Some pigs can be seriously affected from a vicious attack and will not bond to any future partner. Just follow your instinct like you was doing and dont let anyone else try to pressure you into doing something different, while they sit at home typing on a keyboard. xxxxx

Oof wow, that was stressful!! Sorry you had such a rough day, boy pigs can be emotionally draining :( I'm a veterinary tech who works mostly in Emergency, and moving forward I would definitely recommend keeping a 2% Chlorhexidine solution and some empty 3 or 6cc syringes on hand. Salt water is painful on open wounds and not an effective disinfectant in comparison. Dilute the chlorhex until pale blue and use the syringe to gently flush the wounds. Should be able to pick up both at a feed store (TSC, Agway, etc). Wish you luck moving forward. Neuter may be a viable option, there are a lot of vets in SE PA who are very familiar treating pigs!

Bonding can be soooo stressful. I am very fortunate to have a trio of male guinea pigs that get along (which I know is rare!) But they need about twice the minimum cage size - 21 square feet. Once while cleaning their cage, I put them in a smaller basket altogether, and one drew blood. I felt terrible; thankfully they've gotten along well since - but they're always separated when I clean the cage!

I feel like my male Tommy is a happy-go-lucky pig now and is happier now more than ever. I tried making a trio with my two other boys but it didn't work. And my other two boys bond is starting to break too so I might have to get them neutered as well. Which I'm thinking of doing the same for them . I know the stress of it because I've upgraded their cage I've done it all and still nothing. Winston and Ezra was my best guess to be bonded ☹️. It was really stressful. I have 3 single boys and I wouldn't want to pass through something like that we witness. Congrats on trying though

Hi 👋. You were sure-fire-quick separating the boys! Well done on your first aid 👏. You are absolutely right in saying piggies aren't kiddies pets. I would hate that to happen had a child put two piggies together that had never met then go out to play!! 🥶 Hope the boys are OK and are healing after their battle 🙏 And your hand too, ouch! 😫 Keep up the good work and keep Safe.

Oh wow they really went for it between Winston and Ezra!! That must’ve been super stressful omg. I got nipped for the first time doing nail clips the other day and that hurt like a mf. I have three boys and it really is a miracle it works and I’m probably never going to do all boars again. It really is sooooo stressful for us as piggy parents to see them go at it like that and to think they’re unhappy or uncomfortable. Keeping you and your piglets in my thoughts

I admittedly avoided getting boy pigs because of the potential dominance issues, so I have a group of 4 girls :) I mean, I've had rumble strutting but no actual fighting.

I totally get it. I got a male guineapig from a friend that neglected him so of course i couldnt choose a girl. After awhile i got another pig to bond the boys (at the time i did not realize the dominance issues with boys) so after quantine i put them together and they got into a serious fight and started to tornado. 2 weeks ago i tried again and the pair worked out. Sometimes it never works and it takes alot of patience, i was lucky.

That was my plan at first aswell. I had 2 girls to begin with. Decided I needed another pig with them and couldn’t find any single female for adoption, but I found a single neutered male. So then I had 2 girls and 1 boy. Then I felt I needed more pigs as I had the space and there are so many needing homes. Planned on adopting a trio of females. Then I fell in love with these two older boys. So I guess you can say the all girl plan didn’t work out lol. I have 2 girls and 3 boys, but I love them all so much. I haven’t had a fight ever. I have had some rumbling (mostly between one of my girls and the neutered boy) but other than that everyone lives in harmony

I swear bonding is more stressful than exam week. I bonded my two sisters with a neutered boy, it was successful but man I almost lost all my hair from stress. Every rumble and chase was so stressful. I had done so much research and couldn’t have been more prepared but oh. My. Goodness. I hope I don’t have to do it again any time soon 😞🤚

Have you tried the method they use for bunnies where they are in a tight space first until they're used to each other? they put them in a carrier and take them in the car so they're too busy thinking about the car and stress. Mainly because in bigger spaces they claim territory.

It’s not the thing with piggies. It can get nasty as fuck. At first you need to give them bigger space and than making it smaller.

Bunnies at least, have extremely good memory. If two have fought bad and hurt each other, I’ve found that the odds that they will be able to be bonded in the future is slim.

Hi Austin, sorry to hear that the bonding process with males did not work out. I had a very similar situation with with 2 of males(Herbie and Hugo). I ended up getting both of them neutered and they lived side by side in a cc cage with divider down the middle and they got along through the bars. In October 2021, Herbie passed away so Hugo was left alone with no friend.( forgot to mention that I have 11 guinea pigs). One of my pair females, I managed to bond Hugo with and they get along well. They been together still October 2021 to today and beyond. I would recommend you to try and get one of your single males neutered and wait 6-8 weeks after the surgery to introduce them to female guinea pig to see if that will work. Sorry again for the bonding process not working. I felt the same way when bonding guinea pigs it can be nervous time and process. Don't worry about thing , one day your single males have a friend together or through the bars but the most important friend they have is you as you are kind and caring and loving towards them. Hopefully what I have recommended helps . And all the love from me and my piggies from the UK.

When I first got pigs, everything I looked up said boys and girls are pretty much the same and both are great for beginner pig owners. We ended up with girls and I am so glad we did, because boys are definitely more of a challenge in most cases.

I know with dogs if they have a fight their cortisol levels elevate even after the fight and the recommendation is to keep them on their own for a day or two after. I wonder if it's the same with guinea pigs and if Ezra had elevated cortisol from the first combination leading into the second

Heh. I have to wear leather gloves when trying to bond rabbits Bc of the risk. I’ve had one latch on to my hand. Barely ever does a bite not draw blood. They did that exact thing when bonding. I spent probably an hour doing the bond for it to fail. It was unneutered male mating though 😅 so that’s probably what happened

What about neutering one of your lone boars and putting him to the girl group or getting him a girl? Instead of getting another lone boy and then realizing he doesn't get along with the other boars you could give one of your boys a harem. In our local rescues they always pair them up (female x neutered male) or will let a boar have a harem and that usually does the trick. I mean, that's one less lonely pig.
