Glitches in video games is just like bread and butter. It can be your favorite thing to pull off or a hinderance so bad you never want to play the game again until it gets patched. For me? I love pulling off these silly little quirks! It usually makes a really good game more fun or a really bad game really comical.

Just so you know, "softlock" means you can still play the game, but can't make any progress. So any of these that corrupt data in a way that makes a game totally unplayable are NOT softlocks. To see what real softlocks look like, I'd recommend watching Pikasprey's softlockpicking series, where he looks at and tries to get out of softlocks, usually in pokemon games.

This. If the save file becomes completely unplayable (Playable but uncompleteable is softlocked.), it's hardlocked. If the disc/cartridge/download becomes unusable, it's bricked.

And, you shouldn't put Joycon Drift on this list, it's not a glitch, it's a hardware malfunction, and it affects all games you play on the Switch, as it's an error on a hardware level, and not a data or coding problem

@@jacobstrangman7564 Large enemies like Bulborbs could sometimes instantly kill pikmin, by crushing them out of bounds, so you could lose a bunch very easily

....the original skyward sword had a glitch that could completely corrupt your save data right at the end of the game, that was so bad that nintendo had to find a way to patch it on the WII. but no, some block that makes u reload a save is WAY worse...

Let's give an honorable mention to Pokemon Sun & Moon's "Console freezes when you look at the GTS" glitch that makes the GTS almost unusable.

@@liamturner1342 It's the result of a hacker, but it's also a glitch. Game Freak could patch it out if they tried to, but they're only focused on the Switch games now.

The fire emblem one isn't bad, can help if you're recruiting, trying to save npcs, etc.

Are you insane???? The mine control glitch in fire emblem is one of the best glitches in fire emblem existence, it defines the speedrun, and it is absolutely hilarious

What about Pokemon X and Y where if you saved in a certain spot in Lumiose City it would corrupt your save data

I honestly didn't even know about that Sword and Shield one, thank you so much for explaining why I needed to wipe my SD cards countless times. I had no clue wtf was going on-

I expected Missingno to be the Pokémon entry but yeah that SwSh glitch sounds way worse especially since it isn’t hard to trigger by accident

Missingno. isn't even a bad glitch, aside from this video's definition. Due to trivializing one of a kind items. At least in the US version of R/B, I've never seen Missingno. do more that graphical issues, and the Hall of Fame corruption. (The former being easily fixed. And the latter having no real effect on gameplay.) If you want to see the worst bugs in gen 1. Look up the ZZAZZ glitch, and Super Glitch.... Those two can absolutely ruin your save. (The former in a pretty creepy way on top of that.)

The MissingNo from Red and Blue doesn't do anything bad though, it just makes the hall of fame look weird. But, the Yellow version can crash your game, which sucks.

I'd say that the Back In Time glitch in Twilight Princess could be even more devastating simply because it can affect other save slots. You think you're starting a fresh save file that's unaffected by the glitch? Think again!

To be fair: The oob-balloons in SMO are actually a really fun challenge to place and pop

Unfortunately, glitches are becoming increasingly common in modern video games. I believe it's because of the increasing demand for brand-new games, which requires game studios to rush the development and testing process. The more quickly a game or app is developed, the more errors it will have in its underlying code. If you want to create a truly great game that will last for years to come, you simply can't rush the process! By the way, the American version of Super Mario Sunshine (GCN) is chock-full of glitches, particularly when Delfino Plaza is flooded. My guess is this stage wasn't as thoroughly tested because it only occurs once, and the player isn't meant to spend a lot of time in it! Try going underwater and surfacing underneath a log... if you're not careful, you'll softlock the game!

I’m pretty sure I saw a video about how flooded delfino is actually an older version of delfino plaza, and not the final version, which was pretty interesting, and (partially) explains why it’s so buggy!

@@rosilinathedragon4382 I've heard something similar about Isle Delfino before Shadow Mario's first appearance... Apparently, the version of Isle Delfino we see before that is different than the one seen after Bianco Hills opens up! That's how some players were able to get to Pianta Village before beating Shadow Mario for the first time... they basically glitched their way up to the top of the Shine Gate by taking advantage of this Alt-Delfino's underdeveloped physics!

I personally wouldn't count stick drift as "the worst Mario Kart glitch" as even though, obviously, it is the worst thing that can happen, it's just a problem with the Joycons and not the game itself, and, of course, affects all games due to being a problem with the controller, and thus it is a big outlier for this list as the rest of these entries talk about glitches within the games themselves. As such, I have to wonder what you would have chosen for Mario Kart if not that.

Not even an honourable mention for geometry softlocks in Mario 64, AKA: gay baby jail? Also, there's a very unlikely glitch in Mario Party 2, where if you manage to get 99 stars, over 50 coins, change to playing as a CPU and if the CPU is on a path that goes to a Boo; the CPU will attempt to steal more stars, softlocking the game.

Suprisingly, that wasn’t the worst thing people did with the balloons in Super Mario Odyssey… 😳

Have you tried re calibrating? It fixed drift for me. Also great video :)

I found the glitch that shows Wario without his mustache really fun because I have always wanted to know what Wario looks like without his iconic mustache.

Joycon drift is not a glitch, and also it’s not specific to mario kart… why the hell did you add that on the list?

you forgot about the splatoon glitch that would treat you as if you ragequiited and would disable splatoon if you had stopped playing to get some snacks or something. yes, Nintendo bans you if you ragequit in Splatoon.

The interesting part of all of this is that I haven’t encountered any of these glitches in any of these games. In fact i rarely encounter glitches in any Nintendo game. Which is a testament of how great they’re games are

These videos just feel so similar to eachother. They're the exact same format, it feels like no effort went into them, they have no personality or charm.

I've never experienced the full Star Fox glitch, but I've definitely seen Fox take WAY longer than usual to make it into the entrance. Also, let's not forget the ORIGINAL Skyward Sword glitch from the Wii version. If you travel to the Thunder Dragon before traveling to the Water Dragon, you basically would softlock the game. Nintendo ended up having to patch this by releasing a free "channel" to all, which would patch the game. This was long before the days where games would just automatically update

The polterpup stuck to Luigi glitch happened to me three times in a row in my first playthrew and I had to delete the save file three times because of that having to see the beginning cutscean and gameplay it was terrible

The “infinite Monday skip glitch” from Three Houses should be the worse for Fire Emblem as it actually softlockes the game and is much much worse that letting you control enemy units

the fire emblem glitch seems like a fun multiplayer mode

Another glitch for the warioware series, on twitter someone got a glitch on the culture genre boss stage where the car jumped into the water in get it together

In Super Mario Bros 2, there is a softlocke where if you are luigi and jump on the celing and defeat wart there. You will be stuck there forever.

What about the other way to softlock your game in Yoshi's Island? Through a series of very specific actions, you can make Yoshi eat Baby Mario, but when you try to complete a level with this glitch having been used, the game will be softlocked, as there's no Baby Mario to be an "actor" entity to be transferred to for completing that animation
