The worst financial decision I’ve ever made

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I sold a house, then shortly after decided to purchase a 1985 Mercedes Benz Unimog. I immediately blew up the engine. This is the story of the purchase, and the retrieval after 2.5 months of having an engine replaced.

My wife and I were watching this and when pulling away from Roger’s, realized you bought the Mog 5 minutes away from our house….wild! Thanks for sharing the journey.

I think the bright side is now you'll know the drivetrain is up to date once it's all done. Better on Day 1 than Day 90 when you're way out in the bush.

i waited 26 minutes to find out what was wrong with it. in the last minute all i got was "the engine replacement" thanks for leaving out all the details. if it does really does have another engine, it is very sick, it should start and run immediately. my 50 yo italian tractor starts much better than your mog. why don,t you fill us all in on the details?

What a story, man. From one creator to another it’s incredible how far you’ve come and well the story is told compared to your first videos. Echoing what others said - living vicariously through your Unimog adventures. Hella inspirational. Keep it up bro.

@@RuslanVideoFilms the engine blowing up was roger's fault, but also not. there was nothing mechanically wrong with the truck other than an EGT sensor not being installed correctly.

We bought an Ex-Army U1700L which I have put a pod on the back of and it's our adventure wagon. Luckily for me the first time I operated one of them was in 1986 when they replaced our lovely Bedford RL 3 tonners so I was prepared for the agricultural nature of the truck and the maintenance issues. Hence I haven't had too much trouble managing maintenance but it is something one has to keep on top of. Like you however, I bought our truck sight unseen and had to take the seller's word for it that it was a good 'un. Luckily it was and he had kept it maintained. The sensor not being installed correctly is a massive blunder but a pre-inspection might have helped mitigate the issue that killed the engine. Overall you've got the best camper truck made so don't be downhearted! The adventures you will have with it will keep your channel very, very busy! I look forward to seeing all the new stuff you post!

Great content. I came for the Cayennes but of cause I dig the Mog as well. I am just curious what was wrong with the engine in the end? They are known to be pretty much bulletproof apart from some oil consumption here in Germany. But I guess shit happens. Also funny how you and your friends always talk about how big the Unimog is. While you have these huge RVs in America at the same time, not to mention the longnose semi trucks and trailers. And while in Europe at the same time we are always shocked about the size of a regular American fullsize pickup truck but still consider the Unimog as a small (true) truck at the same time. 😂

Actually no. These trucks sell for $80-100k for a well sorted one and the back would’ve cost $300k to have someone build. Not to mention the amount of time it would’ve taken.

Buying a unimog that needs an engine isn't a problem... paying such a price for a unimog that actually needs an engine is a problem - hopefully you can get a partial refund. Otherwise, good opportunity to put an om606 in there (if that's your flavor of a better Mercedes engine) By the way were you at Mi Ranchito with some buddies a couple months ago in Utah? I think Feb. It was either you or an impersonator... didn't realize until after you got in your cayenne.
