For me the famine was the saddest, I watched a documentary about it on TG4 and I cried a lot, I remember one British governor of the time saying that Irish ware rats that disserves to die.

There was food other than the type of potatoe effected by the blight but the irish were forced to give it to the British and if they didn't they were charged with theft and imprisoned or worse
For me the saddest story is that we're srill living this out in our internal politics. Ireland has taken her place among the nations of the Earth. It's time to concentrate on the present and the future, without forgetting how we got here. But our minds should be on the next hundred years, where we can change things, and not the last hundred where we can't.
You can thank DeValera for the civil war
Thank you Davy for sharing this very sad history of our people that has always brought tears to my eyes and pain my heart our ancestors did not deserve this at all I will always keep them in my heart and prayers 🙏🏻😞 I watched a movie called Black 47 really sad movie about the famine 🇮🇪 🥔😢
As an Irish person I can confirm this was horrible.
I'm not Irish, but every time I hear or read about the history of Ireland and what the Irish went through I feel very sad and my throat rises. I love this country which has been my second home for 20 years, I have wonderful friends who are my Angels, I love them with all my heart. The Irish are loving and very friendly people. Yes you are so right about that. The Irish are very loving and friendly people. They set up the IRA terror groups who planted bombs in any place they could in the UK where British people got in the way when the bombs had exploded. The Irish were so loving, especially when they put unmarried mothers and babies into workhouses to die and buried babies that died whilst in the care of the institutions into sewer tanks, making sure no records were kept about those acts of love and kindness you so rightly described the Irish as being. They also sold babies for fees and donations to nuns to childless Americans and any one with money without consent of the mother's they stole the babies from. Such warmth and love of the Irish melts your heart.
I'm half Irish quater English and Italian but my ❤ is always for Ireland.
Watching these videos makes me cry.. sad they are .. yes Also they are stories of great courage.. perseverance.. resilience.. and immense belief in the cause these brave and noble men paid the ultimate price for.. So proud I am to be descended from heroes like these.. and so grateful to you for reminding us of what happened.. Thank you 🌹☘️ Jen999💙

There were a lot of worse days
Born in England but brought up in my Grannys house- essentially an Irish house, my Granny from Monaghan born in 1902 so my sentiments have always favoured the Irish not English. (Feel I need to explain!) I've been devouring documentaries on Collins, the Rising, civil war and I've discovered your films Davy. In everything I've watched or read I did not know that Collins was again threatened with war by the English if the four courts incident wasn't resolved. Thank you for teaching me something. 😊 I sit and imagine the pressure he & the other Irish signatories were under because of the Treaty- too much for anyone! And rightly or wrongly I'm despising De Valera for sending these men to do the dirty work instead of going himself which he should have done. Keep up the good work Davy 👍
I am from Ireland is so sad😢😢😢😢
I’m English born and British , while the Imperialists subjugated every people they ruled over including the British people themselves, Collins had no hate for the British only the ruling class. I believe he had friends in London who were English and the British Labour movement has historically been anti imperial. The Irish people, at least the Catholic and working classes , suffered terribly by either indifference or intended cruelty at the hands of the Imperialist class, Cromwell being the bogey man in chief . I listen to some of the great old Irish rebel songs they are a testament to a people’s struggle to find freedom . What we seen on that football pitch in Northern Ireland the other week and much of the Troubles was terror ,murder committed on both sides of the sectarian divide , beatings , drug rackets etc and the British governments making a complete mess of things . Let’s hope while never forgetting the past relations between Ireland and Britain can only get stronger 🇬🇧 🇮🇪🤝
@robertfry6783

You make some good points. I’m British of Irish parents - I always find one thing strange: from What I can see the British working classes re actually no better off than those Britain subjugated - they were impoverished during colonial times working in terrible conditions in cities. It was the upper classes (directly Or indirectly) that led the subjugation of other poor peoples (often with their own upper classes being paid off to collaborate) across the world. In many ways the poor were merely pawns of mostly selfish uncaring ruling classes
I live in Ireland 😢 and I know the invasion 🇮🇪 ❤

Yes the Irish still have special offers running in selling not just 6 counties for cheap money but a further 26 counties to Eurocrat nations ensuring the Irish remain independent whilst paying off their debts for the next many generations to come to Their Majesties Eurocrats in Brussels. Thank goodness we are still members of the Royal Commonwealth of Europe whilst enjoying our freedom as a Republic proud of our murderous history. Ireland is such a great and fair place to be especially if your a citizen of the Republic. Europe protects our Independent status by ensuring we pay billions of Euro to it.
