It's not a joke at all. You get 255ish guys picked for a career that lasts 2-3 years on average and then you get a couple hundred more undrafted free agents looking to make it. There isn't that many late round/undrafted hall of famers...There really isn't that many all pros or pro bowlers. Also take into account how many of the same franchises are good or better constantly and never really fall off for decades at a time. Some teams scout great for the type of team they want to build. They even cut guys or trade guys because they know they can get production cheaper/longer in the draft. It's not a joke, everyone just thinks they know better. You get to pick 255 guys, the front office/coaching staff gets 7....

When Orlando was getting so much bad press, especially when his weight lifting wasn't "up to par", it was his QB from OU who took up for him. When asked about him by the media, Baker Mayfield said he didn't know what happened at the Combine, but every team should be trying to get him as those results didn't accurately portray his skills. He then said when pressed, "Well, Orlando protected me and never let anyone get through". That meant a lot from the #1 pick of the draft that year. This is why teammates loved Baker. Unless you are a prima donna who hurts the team, he always has his teammate's back. Orlando didn't perform as well at the Combine, but I agree Orlando is great, wish he & Baker would be reunited on a team. I think he was at OU at the Heisman statue unveiling on campus last weekend. Could’ve just been a bad day where he wasn’t feeling 100%. If I was a GM or Head Coach of an NFL team in desperate need to improve its O-line, and the guy was originally projected to be a first round draft pick based on what he did game after game after game on the field in college and his college stats for an OL were top notch, I would not overly concern myself with the kid having one bad day doing exercise drills. 14 reps for an OL isn’t considered good at the Combine, but it’s not like the kid was being projected as a low draft pick (like 5th or 6th round). I would prioritize all that video footage I saw of him in multiple, high-caliber college games against the best competition in the country versus one day doing random exercise drills.

It depends on position but at the end of the day it all comes down to the gut feeling of the GM.

You can improve a player's strength, speed and stamina relatively easily. Improving their skill levels, game IQ and ability to perform under pressure is much, much harder

We've all played football and we've all seen people be judged on there Performances that do not taken to account the mental and physical attitude of the player which is extremely important in football

Tom Brady had one of the worst quarterback combines at the time and was picked in the 6th round with the 100th overall pick as a backup but after the Patriots starting qb got injured and had to retire Tom came in and is now known as the best football qb or player to play in the nfl (Edit: Brady was actually picked with the 199th overall pick and also the guy that was the starting qb for the patriots before Tom Brady came in didn’t retire.)
