You can start with Clairefontaine Etival or Bockingford. Its cheaper, but very VERY doable for studies. Its cellulose but Acid Free and Takes quiet a bit. did my whole studies on Clairefontaine Etival! Also good for Gouache and even did some acrylic and collage on them! Milan, JAX - hair and Da Vinci have some very affordable watercolor brushes ( Da Vinci Cosmotop, Nova, Colineo, Kolinsky, Maestro, etc You can go for sizes 4,6, 8/10 That will give you a good start) This is a personal preference, but general rule here is that if you work with WATER color you need a brush that can hold water in the bristles. My Current favourites are 100% cotton paper Saunders Waterford Hot Press, my Silver Black velvet brushes in size 8 and 4 Round, Winsor and Newton Watercolor Sable 13mm flat brush, and Rembrandt Petit Griss in 10 (Mop) I use Sennelier watercolor, Combined with Rembrandt watercolors.
