Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Rivian R1T is here! The Worlds first electric truck to actually start production. Rivian invited us out to test their new electric truck on an Off Road trek through the Colorado Mountains. This video is not sponsored. If you want more info on the Rivian R1T (or want to get one for yourself) Their website is here: www.rivian.com/ I have been waiting for an electric truck for years. Yeah, Tesla dominates the electric car market, but there havent been any players inside the electric truck space, until now. With The new all electric Rivian R1T pickup truck starting us off - the future is looking bright!

Looking at this from the perspective of a truck owner, there are some things that would be real good to implement for a fleet/utility version: 1: Metal roof with optional roofrack. Glass is prone to breaking from sharp concentrated force blows from things like pipe or board ends. For applications where a skylight is useful, have a conventional design skylight option with a metal cover. 2: Air compressor fitting and controls under a panel on the outside of the bed. Same with the 120V receptacles. Where they are as is, they would be prone to damage from cargo and are inaccessible when the bed is full. Also, any truck mounted compressor should have the balls for some pneumatic tool use, even if it requires designing in some air tanks. Impact wrenches are an obvious example. 3: 8ft bed. If you have to ask why, you don't own a truck. Depending on crumple zone design/requirements, you could make up for the extra length penalty with a shortened nose or even a flat front. This would also improve front visibility without the need for a front camera. The loss of the frunk can be made up for with a bed box. 4: Integrated MPPT algorithm in the charger and PV direct charging port so it can charge direct from a string or paralleled strings of 5 to 12 or so standard 60 cell PV modules (around 150V to 370V). This would allow for charging out in the bush at a good few kW. 5: Cloth or real leather seat options. Naugacow and hot vehicle interiors in tradie conditions don't mix. 6: When and where possible, actual switches and buttons for common use things instead of a touchscreen. Likewise, actual gauges and indicator lights instead of a screen for the instrument cluster. Less glare at night and would net a small power savings, since daylight visible TFT LCDs need bright and thus power hungry backlights. 7: Since you would still have a center console LCD for things like the backup camera, integrated diagnostics and troubleshooting. Customer fleet mechanics will thank you.

At this point I'm cheering any new competitor in the EV market. As a consumer, more competition = more products that fill different niches, as well as lower costs to all parties involved. Now if only power generation can have a similar revolution as EVs.

It did. Nuclear powerwas displacing coal and gas everywhere in the 50s 60s and 70s. Then 3 mile and chernobyl happened, one of which was a control success story and the other was a cleanup success story. Still, to calm public fears regulations were tightened to the point of stifling any further investment and increasing lead times for construction to ridiculous degrees. Some of those regulations were neccesary but in order to get back on track we need to adopt the french model of approving one plant design and buildi g it in many places.

A problem that very likely could have been avoided if Rivian didn't offer (relatively low profile) 20 inch tyres as the only off-road tyre option. Typically 17 inch tyres are the maximum you want to have on a proper off-road vehicle. 18 or more inches easily get punctured. The alternative being 32, 35, 37 or larger inch tyres, but those are not as practical for daily use on asphalt.

The people at the top 5% will put new rims and tires, regardless of whether it came with 17" or 20" wheels. The bottom 5% will buy 22-24" wheels and 30 series tires.

The plastic part is not a good idea though it will be horribly scratched after the first use and that is at least what I see as the biggest downside of the Rivian. It my has a lot of things that a good offroader hast but it also has everything in plastic, carbon fiber or otherwise very weak against scratches. So it feels way more than a lifestyle truck for people that never drive further than the next town but always talk about what their car could do if they would go offroad.

Good overview of the R1T. I have followed Rivian since 2009 and have waited with great anticipation, like you, for the R1T. I had an 1988 4Runner, then a 2014 Taco (that once the bed is loaded along with 4 passengers, the truck exceeded the max weight), traded in for a 2017 Tundra; which I put $26K into. Yet, the Tundra is big. I just attended the Rivian 1st Mile view & ride in Sonoma CA at the Sonoma Raceway. The truck IS impressive and the 0-60 in 3 secs puts your head squarely slammed onto the headrest like a rocket. Our driver (Kabari) had the truck at 75 mph on a gravel road swerving back and forth and the R1T remained level, no significant lean. I was disappointed that staff could not answer some of my basic questions, specifically around towing, and there was more emphasis on a booth for apparel and travel bags, another for charging stations, and several trucks decked out with rack tents. I touch on this more. Meanwhile, the R1T is impressive and the styling inside was spot on. The roof, seriously, I'd be looking at stars all night. Agree with your assessment on larger than Taco, but smaller than fulls size; and a great compromise size range. Some additional features not shown in your video include; the rear seats flip up towards the driver with a nice cargo hold under the 60% seat. The middle of the 60% section of the rear seat folds down with cup holders and another compartment. The cargo pass-thru door covers pop open for small cargo items. If I recall, the R1T has 8 cameras as we toggled between front and rear during our drive; LOVE THE CAMS! The R1T system is equipped with sensors that no driving/movement occurs if a door, tailgate or hood is open. You've covered much of the other features. Now, my Rivian Staff peeve; Towing. No one could answer my questions around the Tow Assist; most new trucks have Tow Assist (set the brake type of trailer, Gain levels, etc.). The Tundra gain range is not good as it limits to 10 and should go to 12. I off-road and pull a 19' Airstream. At the showing, not booth regarding towing. No data regarding towing. No staff versed in towing. I asked, while it has Tow Assist, can we set the Gain (or modify it) on the control panel or does the R1T system auto determine based on trailer specs? For anyone not familiar with towing, when you get a new trailer, Gain allows you to ensure the towing vehicle and trailer brake evenly as a single unit. You set the Gain by driving to 30 mph while towing and hit the brakes. Once the trailer tires lock and skid, you set the Gain. For a Tacoma/Airstream, my gain was 12. My Tundra, sadly it maxes at 10 and it's not good enough. Thus, can we set the Gain. No one could answer this, let alone show me the Towing features. There was no R1T there for the ride along with a trailer attached. Further, my trailer, as my prior ones, I have a cam on the back. Not just for backing up, but active to see behind me while driving. Current cams have the old cigarette lighter type adapter you plug in and when trailer lights are on, the cam goes on. This was another question for Rivian; how will my trailer cam integrate into the Rivian dash panel? Therefore, if you have a chance to review the R1T again, be great to know more about towing. Thanks.

No they don't. This will be a toy with limited range and huge charge times; it will not be a practical truck some one can use for work unless you barely go anywhere, let alone go out in the sticks where there are no fancy 40 amp chargers. Even then It takes 26 hours to charge on a 40 amp circuit. So you run out of power underestimating the loss in range in mountains and freezing weather with a load. You have to hike to a phone and try and find a tow truck that can "carry"a wide 8000 lb pickup. It can't be rope towed or pushed because that will damage the electric motors; it must be fully carried. Very handy; I will just run out and get one.

No EVs live up to their mileage claims; not Tesla no one, but this is a truck; it will be needed to carry a load and tow - it will need to drive in rough terrain and in bad weather conditions all these cut deeply into battery power and reduce range. This is a very heavy truck weighing well over 7000 lbs. so to say one is doing a review and forget to mention charging times or how badly the range will be depleted in tough conditions will mislead trusting people who may buy one and find out they have a dog for their purposes. Lying by omission is still lying and I don't like liars.

I may have to replace the Isuzu with one of these things in a few years.

Well I have say, to date, this the best review on the Rivian I've seen yet, so thanks for that, its given me some ideas, and I just hope they make a model for the UK market!! One thing I would like to know is that are there any lights which shine up the ground beside the truck so making entry and exit that much easier, especially if people are going to use this for adventure trips out in the wilderness where there are no street lights!!

Keeping the tire on the ground to break the lug nuts from their seat is the first thing my daddy taught me about changing tires. All three of us had to successfully change a tire on our own before he would even start to teach us how to drive. Looking back my father was a smart man, safely changing a tire should be the first thing anyone learns before getting behind a wheel.

Life saving tire changing tip: when you jack up the vehicle, place the spare half under the body next to where you are working. So WHEN the jack fails, the vehicle falls and lands on the spare, saving your life. When you're ready to put the spare on, swap the old wheel under the vehicle. Remove once the new wheel is fastened on, then lower the jack

I have them on my Landcruiser 79 dual cab, 200 series Landcruiser Sahara and FJ cruiser. All three paintjobs are in pristine condition even after many many outback trips into sketchy bush country.

Rivian seems to have really thought about how to make it enjoyable to control and drive without too much technology intervening. Good stuff I dig it.
