    I’m a certified sports coach for a couple of kids sports. Every association I’ve done training with teaches that we are not to allow weight training until 13 and then with caution. We’re told we can lose our coaching certification if we pressure kids to change their body weight. We’re told that we should be running calisthenics only and focusing on nutritional completeness not calorie deficits. This is to avoid lawsuits from kids who develop life long mental health issues, injuries and increased likelihood of misuse of performance enhancers. It’s super impressive to see these kids excelling at such a young age. But I worry about what it will do to them in later life. I also worry about making these kids influencers. The kids TV show Bluey has refused to publish the names of the child voice actors voicing the characters to protect the kids from some of the complexities of child celebrity that we’ve seen so many times in Hollywood.

    Balance is the key, theres a reason why you should not be lifting heavy weights as a child, this is because your bones and joints have not fully developed yet and putting them under this amount of stress can actually cause deformed bones and over worked joints. I agree with being healthy and being active and the calisthenics kid has the right idea, bodyweight exercises are great and dont put too much strain on the body, also he seems to know his stuff when it comes to his food etc and allowing himself some fun. PE was designed around sports, bodyweight exercises, running etc because our bodies at that age just not suppose to go to the gym and lift heavy weights. If he gets injured from overuse, poor form etc then it will be the parents fault. Trying to build big muscles can put too much strain on young muscles, tendons and areas of cartilage that haven't yet turned to bone (growth plates) - especially when proper technique is sacrificed in favor of lifting larger amounts of weight. I have no problem with children lifting light weights and doing bodyweight exercises, which can still get you shredded like the first kid.

  • @dominickcantu9986

    @dominickcantu9986

    Жыл бұрын

    You seem to have misunderstood the part where the dad says the son knows how much he can lift without sacrificing his form. Dad's also a trainer and knows his son and how far to push him without his son getting hurt. While I agree a child should do more body weight exercises, if the kid can handle the weight and not overwork himself I see no issues. Also the bone thing is up for debate because bones adapt to the load they're put under. So while his bones may be under pressure, they're also formed to his body enough for his frame to handle this.

  • @MattyLifter

    @MattyLifter

    10 ай бұрын

    @@dominickcantu9986 I didn't miss understand, it's a risk and lifting light weights as said above with proper form is beneficial for teenagers and young adults, lifting heavy weights is a different story. His father may be a trainer like me and his son may seem okay but he has no idea what it is doing to his joints, bones and how the bones are forming. At a young age your bones are still developing. They can actually deform under the weight. They may not break but they can certainly stunt the growth and deform the body. Long term conditions can also be caused because he has not yet developed fully. So he may see side effects later in life. I also know how much my children can lift, I would not risk their bodies at such a fragile and important part of their life. What's the harm in doing light weights/bodyweight, working on form, consistency, diet, teaching him everything he needs to know so when he is fully developed he can make full use of that knowledge. Work the mind of the young and the body will follow.

  • @MattyLifter

    @MattyLifter

    10 ай бұрын

    He wouldn't know the damage until it happens or forms in later life, not unless he is doing MRI's, X-rays, Ultrasounds etc on a regular basis. You can always lift weight and focus on progressive overload in the higher rep ranges.

    These two kids seem to have a healthy relationship with the workouts they're doing. Where it starts to bother me is (usually) in things like gymnastics, where they're working out 4-8 hours a day as kids or early teens just to get to the olympics. It just seems way past the point of fun. And then their career is over by the time they hit 16-18.

    As someone with a bachelors degree in sport and health I think I really all come down to finding you rythm in your every day life. If you want to train your kid you need to be a 120% commited to do it, establish a base for your daily activity level and get into the world of nutrition propperly by consulting professionals who are training kids at such a young age. Then you need to balance the kid´s and your own life accordingly, both need to be in sync in oder to work. That would be my advice to parents or anyone who wants to train a kid that young in such a body demanding sport.

    First kid is great, i see no problem there. Doing everything with your bodyweight or with light weights is amazing for kids health. Eating how he does is one of most healthy ways too. But powerlifting at the age of 10 is concerning in thousand ways. His diet, all that weight affects growth hormones and testosterone and as a powerlifter you're too prone for injuries no matter how controlled conditions are. Ripped muscles, spinal and joint injuries, messing with blood pressure... i think it's not for 10 years old by any means. But regardless even that is better than eating burgers chips and nuggets while sitting in front of the computer for 10 hours a day as it's common thing nowadays.

    Actually kids can train more than adults because they regenerate faster. They are like energizer bunnys. Remember when you have been a kid. You could run around for hours, climb trees and play physical games all day. And the next day you did the same. Imagine doing the same now as an adult you would be sore the next day. It is way easier to get to a hard workout routine at young age and maintain it until you are an adult than trying to establish such a routine as an adult. But lifting heavy weights at such a young age can lead to serious damage in bones and joints.
