So many horses these days can amass massive earnings and dodge any meaningful competition. Will we ever see the best of the best racing each other 3/4/5 times in a season ever again?

World Horse Racing I don't know, I just think there needs to be 5 or 6 races across the year in each division which are truly the world championship races. It's just too easy for the good horses to avoid each other. I'm a traditionalist, I'd like to see the historic, traditional races boosted rather than new races created.

Von Staufenberg Racing should be about racing, not making money by dodging better horses and amassing easy prizemoney. You can win big money in golf or tennis but if you don't play in and win the majors or grand slam you don't have real credibility. Too many horses build big reputations without winning a "major". In racing there are 30-40 "majors" at the moment. It's too many.

Von Staufenberg Cheers, I didn't know all that. I was a fan of the horse but didn't know all the background about who he was named after. I'd probably heard it 30 years ago but not paid enough attention. Thanks for explaining. Seems like naming horses after great trainers is a recipe for success.

Von Staufenberg All fair points. I just worry about things that dilute the quality and depth of the great races. It's boring watching a great horse win by 6 lengths while a quality opponent sits at home in its stall preparing for a different race two weeks later. But the early retirement of classic winning colts is just as frustrating. Many of the greatest ever stallions raced lots and lost occasionally.

"The Breeders' Cup Classic attracts the world's best horses." It attracts some but certainly not all. "The defining event of the international racing season... deciding factor in end of year honors." That's a ludicrous claim which fits in with the self-proclaimed World Championship of horse racing. The Champions Stakes at Ascot and the Arc are a least as relevant if not more so.

I'll give you the Arc but the Champion Stakes is not even the best race in the UK (King George) or the best 10f race in the UK (Juddmonte International). It's likely not even the best race with that name (Irish Champion Stakes). It's simply run too late in the season when most of the best horses are either spelling or overseas and is often run on a bottomless track

In the time it took to have your rant you could have performed a simple search that yielded the following result for the inaugural 2017 running.....kzread.info/dash/bejne/q4euj9Byhq6epMY.html. No, Australia does not have a mountain by the name but most of us can work out that the naming refers to the PEAK race of its' kind....the richest on turf. Prize money compounds each year. The first TWO runnings were won by a champion named Redzel who also ran in the third and most recent race. You will find all three if you choose to look.

Waqar...Jumps racing is also regaining popularity in Australian States, Victoria and South Australia. There are some beautiful courses such as Warranmbool (The Bool) that hold regular meetings and have operated since the 1870's. The historic Casterton track in country Victoria is known for its' historic natural hedges. There would be a few hurdle and steeple races each year that would equate to being Group One events. The Bool course setup allows for races to be run in both directions. You will find references to other European races with searches. In 2018 a unique race called the Jericho Cup was re-run after 100 years to commemorate the first event staged during WW1 at Beersheba, Israel where galant Australian Light Horse made a famous charge. The race is held over 4600M but not over jumps. You will find details with a search
