I noticed that too, and I think also her brother looked quite sad and tired. Or maybe annoyed and fed up. He spoke about his anger. I think that her siblings also need to feel validated and loved, and they are teenagers so also they need their own space and peace.

Yes, absolutely I sensed that from the get-go, siblings not too fond of her to say the least. I found her to be profoundly rude to the siblings. Plus, she doesn’t seem to realize it or doesn’t care is dangerous.

You know, sign language isn't hard to pick up when you have a family member who needs to sign. I'm sure the siblings could have gone to a regular hearing school. Why make them attend a school for deaf students? The mother said they moved to a community where most of the people were deaf. They would have picked it up on their own, for sure. It's like, well, one of you has disabilities, so you will all be in the same boat, without a choice. And, also, I believe signing is a great skill to have for communication. But I wouldn't put my hearing kids into a deaf school because of one sibling. That seems odd.

I get this gut wrenching feeling that Peyton's older sister and brother shown here really don't like her, they feel somehow lesser than, especially the brother who says he takes his anger he feels towards his sister onto the football field. And the older sister, her eyes - the way she looks at Peyton. There is a LOT of anger and resentment there. It's sad to see. I hope they grow and at some point become not just "Peyton's older sibling" and try to find themselves. It will take time.

I do feel an unhealthy dynamic is happening between Peyton and her siblings sadly. It was really hard to watch as someone who grew up with an abusive older sibling, especially since that person, unintentionally, put me in situations that made my childhood way harder. I hope the parents notice how Peyton's behavior isn't just "sassiness" and could be genuine bullying, even if it's meant as a coping mechanism. I'm so happy she feels confident in herself but it hurts to see other kids not have the same confidence around her. I don't know if it stems from Peyton, previous situations the family went through, or a number of other factors. But you don't have such a strong vibe of discomfort between siblings without something going on

Agree!! It's sad to see. You'd think we would have empathy for Peyton, but I honestly felt empathy for her siblings.

Poor siblings, I agree with the comments saying they are being marginalized. Their sister is allowed to be pushy and 'sassy', which is just another word for rude, and you can clearly see the unhappiness in their faces about her. Imagine being a child in a family that is only about one child, and that child isn't you.

They should teach sign language in all schools, honestly.

They taught sign at a school where I worked as an interpreter for the Deaf. We were blessed to have a Deaf woman on staff. The kids loved learning sign language from her. The deaf kids appreciated it too.

I was trying to learn sign language as my high school language because I have family who is deaf and i don't know sign language and they told me I can't take it because it isn't a language and it made me so mad because it is a language

I think Peyton needs to be kinder to her siblings. It seems like she’s allowed to treat them any way she wants and they are forced to endure it. Just because one child has special needs doesn’t mean the others should be targets of her bullying and her making them targets of social ostracism because of her overly-demonstrative “sass” as she puts it. I was subject to this kind of treatment by a special needs sibling and it’s not okay. They all carry a profound sense of defeat and it’s apparent.

Yes, I agree with you 100%. My grandma had a brother who was mentally challenged, and she took care of him after their parents passed away.. Although she expected him to do what he was capable of. She made him help milk the cow and other chores when they were children. He was my sweetest and most favorite uncle. This girl might have special needs, but she just seems snotty and mean!

I agree, everyone says that she annoys them and makes them angry and they look how uncomfortable they are around her, no matter how positive the interview tries to seem, it is very evident, she is mentally capable and should be aware of it, treat his brothers in a friendly way, always sure that their attitude would be different and they would all be invested in it with a lot of love.

Am I the only one who feels she gets away with being a bit mean to her siblings, and annoying them, due to her disability? I would really like to see if the siblings give it back to her, and if Peyton takes it OK, and if mum allows it.

Yea i feel like it was an important part of bonding with my brother. I teased him, he teased me back, sometimes we fought and got punished. Eventually learned this sucks for both of us and its better if we get along. We're friends now. If one sibling has free reign to tease and the other doesn't thats just gonna build resentment haha

Peyton is the center of this family. U can tell her needs come first. Just like them moving. I’m not trying to be mean, it’s just what I’m seeing. The siblings love & and have her back in public, but at home Peyton isn’t just sassy. She’s a bully. It’s a fine line between the 2 things. Peyton may be doing this as her way of control. I learned with my first child that things people do when their babies are not cute when they grow up. Peyton is out of control and mean I think the parents are very negligent of their other children and that's not right. This keeps up they're going to resent her and be gone

With all do respect to Peyton, I was thinking that too. However, I think that there’s more to the story and we are only seeing a small glimpse of the whole picture. She is a young teenager and we all remember that awkward time in our lives. However, she also has a disability and a very rare syndrome of some sort and has had to put up with people treating her differently or staring at her, making faces, etc… When you grow up with that, you can put on this tough shell, so to speak. Peyton takes no BS and she seems to be quite outspoken about it. Teasing her brother and sisters may be a coping mechanism for her, especially when she is teased by others. I have some understanding of what Peyton has gone through. I have a very rare syndrome myself and I’m hard of hearing. There were bullies and a ton of low self esteem that I still struggle with today and I’m 38 years old. However, I never thought about being mean to others, especially my family. Sure we teased each other like most siblings do but to purposely tease them until they were angry or practically in tears, no, to me that crosses the line. But at the same time I can see where Peyton is coming from. However, she needs to be taught better ways to cope with her disability.

Seems like they walk on glass with her and did not pay much attention to their other kids. All of them have severe lisps, that is an speech impediment. I feel for her siblings, especially Brock, he seems like a kind kid who loves her sister, but feels that he does not get any attention and would feel guilty to express that.

@@jaimiehex9420 yeah what is up with that? no one in the comments section asked about the siblings severe lisps nor did they mention a single word about it in the video. i don't understand. the only thing I can think of is that all the immersion in the deaf community and deaf schools caused their severe lisps. they spent too much of their time signing and not enough time talking in the outside world. it's like how people from France move to the US and forget french. am i wrong? can someone please tell me why they all have those severe lips??

I feel like this family would benefit from seeing a therapist if they aren't already. All of them individually, but then together as a family. I see a lot of frustration from the siblings and Peyton is seeking connection with them but with the wrong ways/attitude and isn't very concious of how they are feeling or maybe in general. She is a tough girl. But perhaps overly so and that might hold her back in ways, especially emotionally and with getting closer to others. I am not trying to be judgmental, just being observant. And I also could of course be totally off about it. I'm not in their family, nor have I spent time with them, so none of what I'm saying is with ill intentions! I see a lonely and angry girl and siblings who are exhausted and over their sister running the household and being the center. They seem to put up with her "sassiness" and I think the word sassy is an excuse and dismissal for/of her behavior/feelings and absolutely not a "personality trait" or "just who she is". Sorry, but I had to be honest with my opinion. I think she loves her family and I believe her family loves her, I just think it would help them all with handling treir emotions and communicating them more often and honestly and feeling seen and heard equally. I think they are a great family and have done a great job, I just also think having a great psychologist is helpful for anybody and everybody! I think Peyton is one very strong young girl!

I noticed everyone in the family shown crosses their arms in front of them. That's generally a sign of distancing yourself. Peyton does it too. The siblings look as if they don't enjoy what's going on. Perhaps because a special needs kid necessarily gets the most attention in the family. Idk what's behind it, but there's definitely difficulties there.

Body language speaks 1000 words. My heart goes out to the siblings, Peyton is very fortunate to have such a caring mother and she will be just fine as she is not affected mentally but I do feel for her siblings for many reasons. They should also teach the dogs sign language, a lot of deaf dogs easily learn it so hearing dogs can learn it too. Would make it easier for Peyton to watch them.

I hope Peyton read the comments under this video, it's a much needed reality check, she's bullying her siblings and is using her disability to get away with it, maybe not consciously, but still.

As a sister to someone who is special needs, it would have made a world of difference if my mom had not prioritized my sibling so high above me. I can tell clear as day that's happening here with Peyton's siblings and it is on the parents to find that balance. Its so hard living with a disability but frankly the issue of being the "other kid" is one we rarely talk about. The frustration on her siblings faces shot me right back to my childhood. Its traumatizing honestly... Its like "oh well your normal, you don't have to struggle with the disability so you don't need extra attention" when in reality you need just as much love an attention as any other child. I know its not easy being a parent to a special needs child, but it is part of the burden you accept when you become a parent. Learning how to balance all your children's needs is paramount and it doesn't look like this family is doing well in that regard at this point. I really hope that changes.

I went through something similar. My sister has Down syndrome. My parents - they were mostly good. However, I did felt growing up that they didnt put me much attention to me as they did to her. Besides, she was very rude to me, and my parents were Ok with it because she is disabled and I am not. On the long run, I think it affected our relationship for the worse, we dont have much of a relationship nowadays. I bet things would have been different if my parents acted differently. But oh well...

Seems Chris may have been a bit tone deaf in this one. The siblings seem to be going through a rough patch and didn't have a lot of positive things to say about Peyton and Peyton seems oblivious to their frustrations and feelings. Their non-verbals screamed "oh great, another conversation about Peyton". While I'm sure it's difficult, I hope mom and dad are balancing the needs of the siblings as well.

@@FLMegan I'm with you. These kids are very obviously tired of the dynamic in the household. This isn't a one off event, or a rough "patch." This family is tilted alllll the way towards Peyton and that makes me sad. Those kids deserve just as much love and attention.

Watching the video was hard, you can feel the tension in the family. I think it’s good that Chris showed this side of having a family member with a disability/ disorder/ a sort of diagnoses. A lot of families go though this phase before reaching balance. I can only imagine how hard it’s for her siblings to go to deaf school…I feel that they hold a lot of resentment towards her probably for lots of reasons. I really hope they get the proper help so each family member can get their deserved place in the family.

@Lucile She refers to brothers who study in an exclusive school for the deaf and who also need to develop their social skills, which are different from their sister, so they should not be deprived of developing their social skills to express themselves through speech. It must be hard to be deprived of the conversation and have the speech stifled.

I don't know Peyton's life expectancy with all of her health issues, but she appears to have such an alert and robust mind. I'd like to see her really go for it! Achieve higher education, credentials if time and circumstances allow.

I feel due to her condition she seems spoiled. I wouldn't put up with her teasing her sister the way she does and making her mad just for fun and she thinks it's funny. You could see the frustration in their faces. I wouldn't tolerate that behavior from any kid, disabled or not. I'd take her stuff infront of her and then tease her and make her mad and see how she likes that. That's not a healthy way to seek attention.

@@aqua6613 That's why it's good for them to have family counseling along the way to help Peyton's family to cope with the changes Peyton will go thru along the way and especially to guide Peyton to better, healthier ways to communicate her feelings, and to be a responsible family member who can give back by being loving and supportive without loosing her sense of humor which comes to her naturally. A family social worker can help her find that happy balance.

I hope Peyton can learn some better coping skills. Her future will be much happier if she doesn't anger those who care for her. Because she is a good communicator she should put her skills to use in a more positive way.

@Snippet X Yes. . . when Chris asked "How do you feel when she makes you mad and then laughs?" Brock said, "I just walk away" -- but with an undertone of sadness and resentment that may keep him (and the other siblings) away when they're all adults and don't HAVE to spend time with her. I know teens fight as siblings, I certainly did too; but if the parents prioritize one teen over the others, that's going to cause resentment when they're adults, which won't help any of them, least of all Peyton, who seems to be allowed to bully the others with impunity. Of course, this is just one video, I don't know any of them personally, and I'm adopted, which is a whole nother thing too. However, I'm forever grateful my parents never prioritized one child over another, even though I've had medical issues since I was born. I don't think we'd be as close, as a family, if my parents had encouraged me to use "sassiness" to bully everyone else in the family merely because I was born with a harder physical reality.

It's impossible to ignore the real exhaustion evident in the siblings. Being sent to a deaf school when you have no hearing issues, while in some ways a lovely thing to do for Peyton, will possibly be a potential cause of resentment for the siblings. You do get a sense that they're tired of all the focus being on Peyton - even extending to her seemingly getting away with bad behaviour, or 'sassiness'. It's really tough to balance the needs of all three children, and clearly they're doing an incredible job. But I can't help feeling like some therapy could be useful for the siblings and certainly could help ensure they remain close as they grow up. Not judging the family at all - just an observation.

Yea group therapy is absolutely necessary in this situation, I hope they're all getting it. But if you have deaf siblings you simply all have to learn sign language period. Luck of the draw. I agree with the mom about full communication in a family being necessary. However "full communication" doesn't just mean that can literally all communicate, it also means they can understand and express their true feelings toward one another... otherwise the "full communication" idea is pointless. And that requires therapy.

Yeah I felt bad for the brother and little sister kinda sitting awkwardly while talking about being bullied even though they stand up for her when it's needed. She sounds like she might calm down when she's not a teen but it's still evident she's the queen of the house and I feel a bit bad for her siblings. I'm surprised they were sent to an all Deaf school, that seems just as harmful as sending Deaf kids to a hearing school tbh, but who knows. :/

Please don't criticize the siblings or ask of them to be nicer or more patient. You know that the mom had to prioritize Payton a lot before the others and herself, so they often got the short end of the stick. They stick up for her when she gets bullied. They had to grow up real fast. And it's probably hard to create healthy boundaries with a disabled sibling. Lots of love to them in particular.

yeah, people tend to forget the siblings. a child with disabilities always needs accommodation and attention, that's not a bad thing, and often not something that can be changed. but it can still be tough on siblings, especially when there's 4 children, getting undivided attention can be hard

As someone who grew up with a disabled brother who was repeatedly allowed to ostracize and bully me, I am absolutely shocked that no one realizes the toll this is having on the siblings. If I even tried to stand up for myself I would get punished, reassured of how bad of a person I was, and labeled a troublemaker. It got to the point where I stayed in my room and read books for years of my life, as that was my only peace and escape. I grew to resent my brother and my parents, and as a grown adult I still do. Shame on the parents for not doing something about this, and shame on all of you that are enabling this girls behavior.

All the siblings body language make it seem that they are uncomfortable being near her. Her brother even said he takes his anger towards his sister out in football. Doesn't seem very healthy

Peyton is a bit of a prima dona to her family. I can see where she is hurt by the reactions of others outside her home, but I hope she can learn to control her temper with her siblings. Friends may come and go, but siblings are forever. I hope that the sibs can hold each other close with love and support and drop all the mean teasing.

Seems pretty apparent that this girl is having a hard time accepting her reality and is not only actively taking it out on her family but being allowed to do so. It's unfortunate because what should be her primary support group, her siblings, they're going to get far away from her as quick as they are old enough. This girl needs some tough love from her parents before it irrevocably splits the family apart.

Peyton might not have intentionally taught me these two words, but now I know how to say 'sassy' and 'always' in sign language :D Nice to see an update, too!

i’m learning sign and i reccognized “nice” and was very proud of myself

Chris, I have to thank you for inspiring me to become a geneticist around 5-6 years ago. Today I am working with doctors in the department of children's neurology and rare diseases, trying to do my best to figure out the genetic causes behind different kinds of inherited conditions that these kids have. I don't see the children myself, since I only work with their genetic data, but your show lets me see a lot of the same conditions I work with every day and it reminds me that every one of those case numbers has a story and a name behind them. And I'm doing all I can to make both their life and their families lives easier. Thank you, Chris and SBSK.

I absolutely love that. I wanted to become a genetic counselor (my daughter has Down syndrome) and I am just very inspired and intrigued by all of these genetic variances...ie genetic diversity. Unfortunately, when I applied I was not getting the support or needed information to go though with the program thanks to the university I applied to. Maybe someday, I will continue on that journey. Good luck to you, you will do wonders!

That’s awesome! Have you heard of Pfeiffer syndrome or met any kids who have the syndrome? It’s a rare one too. Effective 1 in 100,000 births and less than 85,000 worldwide have it. Which is still a lot of people but not in comparison to the almost 8 billion in the world population.😊

Yeah, they seem to be tired and fed up. Her brother spoke about his anger. They are teenagers so they need to feel validated and loved too, and also they need their own space and peace. I feel a bit bad for them. :(

Her Brother and Sister rock! They do look worn out! Bullying is not ok, just because you are handicapped, neither are mean pranks. She is blessed to have such loving sibs. On the other hand, Peyton is wrong - she has beautiful hair and eyes, great complexion and cute build. She is smart. It is all about working your best assets! Blessings to this family, and kudos to Mom.

Totally agree, sure teens can be a handful but her siblings look exhausted by her and i dont think its shyness at all. I don't want to assume but I would think she monopolizes most of attention, all the way to where they live and how they communicate. It's not entirely fair and they may crave just as much attention.

having a disability is a lot of stress and frustration for both the person concerned and the people around her. it's not easy on anyone. i don't know them but i don't think Peyton is just an annoying teenager. she struggles a lot, and doesn't always cope the right way. it's probably hard for her too.

We can hope that the family might’ve seen these comments and are making adjustments and maybe Peyton is maturing and realizing there’s a really fine line between sass and straight up rudeness, and maybe there can be new norms and expectations put into place for how the siblings treat each other. Yes rude teenagers/terrible sibling dynamics are common but it doesn’t make it right or acceptable, no matter the situation.

I work in a Deaf school and 90% of our families don’t learn sign language. I wish all of our families were like you! Thank you for doing the best possible thing for your daughter. Also- Peyton is an SBSK fave of mine! So glad to see her again.

I don’t understand that. If you don’t learn sign language and you have a deaf child you create a language barrier. I would want to be able to communicate with my child in the most effective way. I think not learning sign language would be a huge disadvantage for the child and family since that is the child’s MAIN source of communication.

I am also really interested about how they even have a relationship with your child without learning it... I think learning it would be hard af but that's your child and unless you are seriously disabled and can't why? Are narc parents really that common? Because I'm assuming a big portion of that 90 percent COULD learn if they really tried.

Her siblings look mostly pissed at her, especially the brother. She needs to learn to cope better and not be annoying and "sassy."

I know Peyton is in her teenage years. But I hope she outgrows being so mean and “snappy”. This world is already a tough place. People will look at her anyway, and yes, she looks a little different. But if she grows to accept that people are inquisitive it will be a bit easier on her. And also, be nice to your siblings. They are in your corner. Treat them as such!

@@dustygatrell-ru7tg hard yes, impossible to treat them all the same? no...special need's people do deserve support, but you can't have such a harsh power dynamic between them. She deserves support, absolutely. If that means she gets to stand on a pedestal over people, that's not support. That's gonna make her into a person who can't make friends, all cause the mom lets her have that power. "sassy" isn't funny when everyone only looks at you with side eye's.

It would seem like she needs possible Therapy for her tantrums and mood swing in my Opinion. I have watched this channel for many years, I can see slight distress that she may be causing the family by no fault of her own except not having the right tools. I would get her into some kind of adaptive sports or classes on anger. It looks like everyone is on edge around her including the mother.

I like the fact that Chris lets people speak and express themselves, but it feels like he should have dug deeper in how the siblings feel and having a better view of the family dynamic. Also asking the mom how she feels about that and how she responds to the conflictual relation between them. As people say in the comments we don't really know if she makes any effort to give as much attention to the siblings as they do with Peyton. Really interesting interview non the less

I think that these types of film makers can't go in telling people that they have a dysfunctional family and asking about their parenting and asking children how they really feel. They spend time with the people and film a lot then edit it to show people who can see it. All the clues are there. The mother was there when the children where talking about their relationship. It was the mother who told of Peyton's manipulation. We see Peyton's joy about upsetting her siblings and her view that she's top in the family. The makers could have manipulated the film, but it's not really that type of channel. They're more likely to have manipulated it to make them look better than worse. Their viewers like the stories of overcoming adversity. Many wouldn't want to watch about people like these ones.

They don't look and don't sound comfortable with her.

Definitely underlying resentment from the siblings…this family needs to take the “annoyances” they’ve expressed as something more serious honestly. From the sibling’s perspective, I can see where it comes from considering everything revolving Peyton usually takes priority, even having to move to the deaf community. It doesn’t help either that Peytons attitude and relationship with them is not the greatest to put it lightly.😬 Her declaring she’s the “sassiest” proudly like that shouldn’t be seen as a good thing, disability or not. I’d pay attention before relationships between siblings become more strained as they get older.

Sassiness = brattiness That girl was a total brat, yet no one will do anything because of her disability. And she doesn't even have a mental disability, so you can't use that as an excuse.

Peyton is beautiful and smart, but I hope that she grows more empathy, cause the "sassiness" makes her siblings to grow resentment. If she is interested in close relationships with them in the future, it is about the time. :-) Jokes are funny, when both sides laugh. An illness or handicap is not an excuse for sassy behavior. All sibling's body language looks like they all have enough already (closed arms, facial expressions, tightly closed mouth, like they are mad but trying not to speak out...).

From the siblings' body language, it looks like the wish Peyton would get gone. They don't seem to like her very much. They have had to accommodate her... A LOT.

Her brother and her sisters looked so fed up with her.

She needs to be nicer to her siblings though. You can tell she puts them through a lot.

She is so expressive! I love it! I’m a nurse, and I really want to learn sign language especially for healthcare providers. I think there is such a need for that.

I grew up with a best friend that had a deaf sister. They all hated her. She was super mean just like Peyton. Parents allowed it just like Peyton’s. Sad really.

I hope she sees the messages and understands that her frustrations and anger should not be taken out on her siblings. They look like they hold back on saying things to not hurt her feelings. Just because someone has disabilities doesn’t mean they should take their frustrations on others. Love your family and enjoy them because you never know what can happen.

She's grown into a beautiful teen now. And those things which Peyton hates about her mom, I guess we all have moms with the same trait.

she is technically saying words just with her hands not with her mouth. But we don't say "speaking" we say "signing" to differentiate signed speech from spoken speech.

I noticed right off the bat how uncomfortable her siblings felt by the way that she is treating them and they don’t seem to feel as appreciated with all the attention that she gets because of her disability I think her mother and father need to step up and make her follow love and respect just like the rest of the family you don’t get a pass because you have a disability

I find it interesting that all 3 of her siblings have a bit of a speech impediment. I wonder if it’s from being forced into a deaf community and deaf school at such young age, where they weren’t exposed to spoken language as much as other kids. Just a theory.

I noticed it too. As a mom with 3 kids who received speech therapy, these kids' speech issues would have been addressed in school if they'd been attending a regular school. Kids are referred to & screened by speech therapists if teachers have concerns about any articulation issues or language delays.

It looks like the whole family has adjusted to Peyton's world. I think its time now for her to adjust to the real world because that's what she will be living in sooner or later. I can see the other kids moving out and moving on with their lives as soon as they are old enough. Mom needs to realize she has not given the sibling's a normal childhood and they resent it.

Very painful to watch. 5:00 Peyton demonstrates how she annoys Brock. That look of his... After that, look at Kenzie her expressions and then 5:57 'Yeah whatever'. The mother sees and hears it all but is oblivious to Peyton getting in her siblings' hair? People with disabilities can act awful, just like anyone. Her mother has to straighten Peyton out, for her own and her siblings' sake.

My heart goes out to Peyton. I believe that if she were not so sassy, her life would change for the better. I can see the conflict in the faces of her siblings. I can only imagine the reaction from the public when she sign's "turn around and go away." Maddie and Bess are prime examples of how to invite people into your life. I would recommend that Peyton watch those videos for a better understanding of what works and what doesn't work in relationships.

Moving to a deaf community and putting your hearing kids in a deaf school just because one of your children is deaf is an… unusual choice.

Their oldest was only 4 when he went to the deaf school and he picked it up within a year, so it's not like it was some life-ruining change during his teenage years. Seems like a solid way to immerse a kid while their brain is still really spongy so they can learn without having to put in much effort.

I met Peyton once at a summer deaf/HOH camp! She was friendly and definitely sassy lol. We also liked Harry Potter and we had fun during camp activities. Surprised to see her on KZread but glad to see she’s doing good! :)

The “pranks” she pulls on her mom gave me a bad feeling in my stomach..

That's very moving to see her growing up, especially when unfortunately I see in community post that some special friends passed away, can't wait to see other following in the future!

Something so affirming about Peyton's laughter. For starters it's a really sweet laugh, but also, I love that someone who's never even heard laughter still laughs so clearly and purely. Like how blind people smile without ever seeing smiles. It's just beautiful to know that these things aren't taught but are a part of human nature.

blind people usually have touched smiles of other people, and have touched their own face. they also can hear when someone is happy or not, and thus learn that you smile when you are happy. cool how people can learn similar behaviours in vastly different ways.

Ok payton is deaf but i mean, she is normal after that, she can be jyst educated to respect her siblings

I don’t understand why the family doesn’t sign the whole time they talk? But I also agree with the others on how “over” the other siblings are on Payton being the center of attention. Having so much focus on one child causes issues in any family

Don't know about other people's experiences, but I'm from a bilingual family (farsi and english), and it really depends on what language is being spoken to you. If someone talks to me in farsi, I respond in farsi without thinking. If someone talks in english, I respond in english. As for the other siblings, they're all teens and payton is 14, aka the absolute peak of being annoying. I have a 14 year old brother who's fully abled and he's just like her, but arguably worse because of teenage angst. They'll all grow out of it

“Simcom” isn’t ideal. When we verbally speak our signs become jumbled and we revert to signing the way we talk verbally

It’s really nice to see these follow-on interviews, but it also hits home that their difficult lives continued, while we got to return to our own reality. The strength of these kids, their parents, and their siblings is truly impressive.

Her hands are so graceful when she is signing. I don't think i have ever seen anyone sign so beautifully before.

God, im sorry but i really feel for those siblings i wouldnt want to be around her either! I was bullied in 1st grade by a special needs boy and because he was special needs he got away with it and i was the one told off. Hated him for it, a lot of resentment. Even in high school i hated that people were nice to him and acted like he was the coolest kid in school because he wasnt, treat special needs kids like normal kids because if not theyll be spoiled bullies who can get away with it (sometimes). Also its just good in general to treat them normal, they still are intelligent they understand. I hope those siblings help each other out.

Loved the “sassy” chat. Lol. But, honestly, if I saw her, I might hold her gaze a moment longer because she has beautiful eyes!!! And of course I would extend that with a smile and a hello.🥰

Seeing how frustrated and annoyed her siblings are make me glad that my parents made sure that my special needs brother was given appropriate discipline and that he wasn’t able to use his disability as an excuse for that sort of behaviour

The fact that her mom became fluent and moved just to be able to communicate fully with her. Same with her siblings. That's beautiful.

She she seems like she could be a bratty little handful but that’s ok because most kids her age are! She’s no different! 😊

I think her parents could do better with her, but I also think it's normal teenage behavior.

I'm glad Peyton is doing well, that this family has made an effort to adapt to suit her rather than forcing her to fit them, and that the other siblings have learned a vital, rare language skill. That said, I get the feeling that things that were done to benefit Peyton seem to have been traumatic to the other siblings. I hope there's a therapist involved in this family situation and that ALL of them become well-adjusted adults. Especially her brother.

I would love to be able to have an interview with Chris. I have Autoimmune Hepatitis which led to having cirrhosis of the liver. At 25 years old, everyone expects me to have boundless energy, and no one understands why Im so tired all the time. An invisible disability is a blessing and a curse, and Chris is so good at handling these topics with grace. Thank you for all you do SBSK.
