It’s definitely useful! Every time we are in an extreme off-roading situation we fold out the clutch to drive as a manual so that we have complete control over the vehicle on inclines and declines. You don’t want the automatic system to be engaging the clutch and losing power to the drive train in these situations.

Most people don't know it, but the first trucks with this name weren't build as offroad vehicles but as motor stations! The motors had shafts to the outside where they could drive all sorts of machines. Therefor the name Unimog - 'Uni'versal 'Mo'tor 'G'erät (Gerät meaning device, tool) The idea was to drive the car to a place where power was needed, link the shaft to some device (A big saw in a wood, a food processor on a field (threshing and so on) and power everything up from the Unimog motor. The truck developed into what it is today because often these working places were in tough terrain and so the truck has to be very reliable and suited for various regions.

An awesome presentation by this young lady! She obviously enjoys driving these beasts and her knowledge is very surprising! Yes a couple of whoops but who cares, she'll get better. As an SES volunteer I wish we had these, mostly for the load carrying and being able to swap out payloads of heavy gear for different scenarios to deploy with a team up to 600 to 1,000km away and return over often difficult terrain that often breaks stuff. Our 70 Series vehicles get hammered, we do city stuff sometimes, the Wild West other times. Currently it is always a comprise and generally being over GVM and needing multiple vehicle and trailers. It would be nice to able to deploy carrying almost everything likely needed, praying that you didn't miss packing essential stuff when you are a day or two from re-supply.

You can fit an 11ft to 13ft (at a stretch) long box on the back of a crew cab. Bliss Mobil have done a few with their 11 ft box. The current 'extreme offroad' Unimog is only available in one wheelbase of 3850mm, and it would be prohibitively expensive to have the chassis lengthened as custom torque tubes would need to be manufactured. Due to the 60% overhang rule, you get a maximum of 4150mm (just over 13ft) to work with. A Bliss Mobil 13ft box would legally fit, but I would bet that they don't recommend it due to weight distribution past the rear axle. There is always a second hand Unimog 6x6 with a crew cab (like Unidan have on their channel page), but these are not currently produced models.

Agree with everything Alex has stated! Great overview. Yes, with the Bliss Mobil bodies on a single cab you can fit a 13ft body and with a dual cab you can do an 11ft. With our Unidan bodies with the raked back, we can do a 4600mm body on a single cab or a 3850mm body on a dual cab (these measurements take it all the way to almost maximum overhang).

Mercedes in the U.S. wins no awards when it comes to their maintenance and service, except for the gall to charge so much for fixing anything. The new sedan I bought just reached 60k miles. So far the air conditioner has been repaired twice, the leather seat has ripped along a seam, frequently used buttons like window, seat adjustment were black but now the cheap coating has worn off to white 15:09 plastic, the adhesive used to hold the faux wood trim on the door has given out, and the dealer advised me that the vehicle needed an engine tear down to replace a timing belt cover gasket, or the engine would soon start to leak oil. And that front right wheel bearing should be replaced. Estimated price to fix engine and wheel bearing was around $10,000. This was at 48000 miles no less. (2 years later and I have yet to find one drop of oil from the leak they predicted.) Mercedes Benz is living on their old reputation, customer service needs to try to help the customer, and the cheap parts they get fro China need returning. Until I see a big improvement in their whole approach, I will no longer consider a new vehicle from them. I have since bought a new 911-4S Carrera , and an LX570. Fairly pricey for both, and nothing Mercedes had could even come close. No, I don’t have a use for a Unimog currently, but if and when I do, Mercedes better have a whole better attitude and quality of construction. Sitting in either my Lexus or Porsche, the quality and craftsmanship of those vehicles, makes me think of Mercedes as a cheap Chinese knockoff. The Mercedes sales department sent me a letter offering a new model and I could get a $12000 credit towards the purchase of a new model. For a standard Mercedes 4Matic to have such high depreciation, expensive service requirements (even when the service package is prepurchased) , is discouraging, to say the least. But the policy of making their service department a profit center for the dealer is not conducive to long term customer retention Mercedes doesn’t even rank in the top ten for customer satisfaction in most poles anymore. Maybe they are after the Poser market?

Mercedes cars and Daimler Special trucks are now officially separate businesses. Daimler Special Trucks has always been very different sectors with different management and processes. The official separation of the two is only going to improve the Unimogs even more as they are more of a priority to their sector. The quality of the Unimog is very high and we have had great experiences with parts, service life and aftermarket support.

Thanks@@unidanengineering . That's an interesting characteristic, and while it may not be a selling feature, it would be interesting to see. Maybe once the cab is up access is good, and that could be considered a desirable feature off-road? I knew that the UGN (implement carrier Unimog) moved the engine to behind the front axle and below the cab floor, but I had assumed that the UHN (off-road Unimog) still had the engine over the front axle. Once I found an illustration after your explanation I see that the UHN has the engine behind the axle, but still high because of the suspension (so, under the front seats). Thanks for correcting my assumption.

In Australia the test for a truck license is very simple. The cab chassis alone for the U4023 is approx 6 tonne so unfortunately there is no way this will ever be on a car license. But the main advantages of the Unimog is the payload, hence why they are a much better option than a Landcruiser (or similar) which is constantly overweight.

@@unidanengineering "Comfort and keeping your dignity when climbing up into these trucks is key. + the Australian heat means that this is a very appropriate clothing choice." You're here to present and sell a product, not show us how comfortable you look, therefore a professional appearance makes a big difference in order for your customer/s to take you seriously. And if you make mistakes in a presentation, redo the whole thing again. In marketing a product, you must be of sound knowledge of said product as that bodes well with the customer's perspective. First impressions are important.

@@metarugia3981 Thank you for your constructive criticism, it's noted. Considering all the information that Tiarni has provided in this video is from memory (not a script) and has all been self-taught or taught through years of working with Unimogs with her father, the 1 mistake made in the whole presentation is a pretty valiant effort. As for re-filming, the mistake was not found until several days after filming when it was being edited and then watched back, so we weren't going to go back and do that section again. Furthermore, Tiarni is the lead sales person for Unimogs in the country and quite high up in the world-rankings too so we think that she does a pretty great job and our customers definitely think so too :) Our approach to everything that we do is genuine and limited editing. We are NOT KZreadrs, nor do we plan on being one. We are a genuine family business and bloopers and all is something that is part of every day life and we are happy to share that with everyone. We are not polished 'salespeople', we just believe in a product and are spreading our knowledge on the product. We would 100% expect a perfect presentation if it is something that we had hired a production company to do with a paid actor but this is NOT what we do. We try to squeeze in as much content as we can in the time that we have and if that means that Tiarni is wearing bike shorts (because she wasn't expecting to film that day) then so be it. We are happy with every part of this video, and the people that take the valuable information from the video and don't nit-pick seem to be very happy with it too. These are the people that will become life-long customers and friends :)

@@unidanengineering"Furthermore, Tiarni is the lead sales person for Unimogs in the country" According to the unimog website, your company is the ONLY Australian dealer, so there's not much to compare with. "Considering all the information that Tiarni has provided in this video is from memory (not a script) and has all been self-taught or taught through years of working with Unimogs with her father" If this is the best she has, there's definitely room for improvement. She lacks confidence in her speech, her choice of clothing, the constant hesitations and mistakes in a business presentation is unacceptable imo. "We are a genuine family business and bloopers and all is something that is part of every day life and we are happy to share that with everyone." Bloopers are for home videos, you're doing a busniess presentation selling a product(a very expensive one at that) and professionalism is a must, no exceptions. "We would 100% expect a perfect presentation if it is something that we had hired a production company to do with a paid actor but this is NOT what we do." And you should expect nothing less if you want your potential customers to have that perspective of your company. You want your customers to think and know they're dealing with knowledgeable and experienced people, that matters and is crucial for any business. That's the image every business owner should want to project.

Imagine judging someone's capabilities and knowledge based off what they wear.... It would actually be much more inappropriate to wear something that most people would consider 'business attire for women' considering a skirt or business pants would inhibit entering the vehicle in a dignifying fashion.

@@the_patriot7 You are talking about custom, personally modified Broncos or Jeeps. She mentioned numerous times in the video that the Unimog is standard from the factory. It is capable when you drive it off the lot. No addons required. As for going places this truck can't, yes, many vehicles can go places the Unimog cannot. Those four wheel all terrain buggies can outclass the Unimog in rough terrain. A small off road motorcycle can outdo the Unimog too. But if you have to carry two tons of gear to the middle of nowhere, then the Unimog might be the right choice. But for going almost anywhere at anytime, a Toyota Landcruiser is the right choice. Go to the most remote primitive places on earth, that have vehicles, and you will find lots of Landcruisers being driven. 50 year old Landcruisers because they run forever.

Two different animals. This is a medium duty truck that can carry all kinds of equipment and stuff. Broncos and Jeeps are light duty.
