Inspired by his mother, Freitas started collecting with a Roberto Carlos record in 1965 and has gone on to amass another six million more, including hundreds of copies of the same albums. Last November alone he purchased a million records.

I’m totally happy for this guy. I got over 2.700 vinyl records and still growing. Most of my records was passed to me from my dad after he passed away. To me every vinyl record is a blessing. Music is a big part of my life and I will keep on collecting records rest of my life. My music room looks like a record store I’m living a dream since childhood.

Thank goodness Zero is taking care of Paul Mawhinney's collection as well as all the amazingly rare music he has collected over the years too.
What a wonderful hobby, and a wonderful guy! What's even more wonderful is that he intends to catalogue all of them for public use and transform into a vast listenable archive.
It’s sad how much people are hating on this guy for just collecting way to much records

There's a difference. If you need a staff to clean and catalogue your records, then it's not called collecting. It's called hoarding and excessive buying, my friend. Let's do the math. He says he has 6 million records. Let's assume, all these have a runtime of approximately 30 minutes on average. If he actively listened to all these straight, it'd take him 342 years if he listens to all these in one go. And he says he has almost 100 copies of certain albums. And you call that collecting?

Although true I'll never hear them all, I have heard songs from most of them and would love to do nothing else but help him explore his collection and to get paid for it would be heaven!! :) A job I used to have at one time in a store with far less than 7 million...
one things for sure, music hits us each in different ways but it's appreciated by everyone but my neighbors.
I love listening to old records--scratches & all!
I have around 6,000 vinyl records that i've been collecting since I was 3yrs for the past 54yrs when I got my first record player. I mostly collect Spanish music. I wonder how many Spanish vinyl records are in those boxes.
'Beatlemania' was also released in Canada, not only Brazil. It was a compromised 'Meet The Beatles' containing only 12 tracks.
So is this what they call a record record?
He's archiving and preserving these records, it's a good thing. At least they aren't getting moldy in someone's basement

watching a billionaire listening to a scratchy record from the 70's, thinking he is experiencing a superior sound or whatever, is laughable. no one was complaining about any sound issues when records passed on, only praise for the new utility and no scratches! the reason why, petroleum based, records have 'come back' and not tapes or CD's is simply b/c you can not copy or burn a vinyl record... I laugh at audiophiles drooling over inferior sound. Do something more productive with your $$$. Go Green Get Digital music. Oil based scratchy music... pass. Just get good quality digital and you'll never know, I promise.
