    It all slows down, normal sound falls away and your brain highlights the slightest motion changes, all your senses are heightened beyond comprehension, oddly your sense of smell and your physical orientation become permanent reminders, it a very odd feeling, then if your lucky silence, just milliseconds before the rush that tells you whether your good to go or not. It’s not always mega..I’ve skipped the middle bit a few times. He’s in a different league though, unless you have touched the speeds he has with no room for error and pulled it off you can’t compare.

Who can win a TT apart from the 1% of elite few such as Mcguinness, Joey Dunlop, Michael Dunlop, Ian Hutchinson, Bruce Anstey, Agostini and Hailwood. Why would you highlight something he hasn't achieved rather than recognising all the great things he has done? The riders I mentioned have not achieved 10% of the things Guy Martin has done. • @droceretik

    @droceretik

    5 жыл бұрын

    Rather than a heavy kart then add ballast to redistribute the weight balance? Think about this. Which will reach the ground first and achieve the highest speed if dropped from a balloon at 1,000 ft? A plastic beach ball of 1 metre diameter or a steel ball of 1 metre diameter? I think it is a fine line between correct weight, tyre friction and the ability to turn. In a straight run down a steep slope I would put my money on a kart that weighed 120 kg total compared to 100 kg because the power to wind resistance ratio was better on the heavier kart. Gravity is the engine. and 120 kg has more power.

    I got a whip start from a rope and bicycle at the top of the run, crappy lawnmower wheels, undersized 1/2" mild steel axel. Crate lumber frame and a rope loop for steering, a 1/2" lag bolt through the 2x4 lumber steering assembly. No brakes of any sort, but i did have a hockey helmet and knee pads for safety gear. No videos, cell phones or world record keepers were present. From memory, according to the "one thousand one, one thousand two" precision timing method I was hauling arse down the road. The road had no curves but at what I thought was my top speed my cart developed a serious violent side to side shaking in the steering rope! The cart shook so hard that the front left lawnmower wheel sheared the nail that was holding the wheel on the axel. That's when things started getting dicey! The cart veered off the road into the ditch and the axel dug into the soft gravel road side. I somersaulted along with the cart rolling on top me! My safety crew was following during my run right behind me on their spider bikes. Everyone agreed I was going at least 100 mph! Not true, but the story sounded better like that at school the next day. I ended up with a good cut on my left thigh, bruises, and lump on my head from when the cart rolled on top of me. But I did get kisses on the cheek from 2 girls in neighborhood then about 3 hours later my dad got home from work and beat my ass with his belt for almost killing myself and scaring the hell out of my mom with a bloody leg! It was SO worth it! Lolol true event!!

    Knowing absolutely nothing about the aerodynamics or weight distribution on this world record breaking vehicle, the only thing I would have done differently would be to concentrate the extra weight at the front end. Putting too much behind Guy’s seat was always going to result in a tank-slapper. Apart from that, well done matey! I bet you will be back for another go at breaking the magic “90”!

    Hi Martin, congratulations for the record and the video, as you are a mechanic and a former track rally driver and I was also racing in gravitational races, since I saw your video I promised to try and beat it. I will be glad if you want when I try it in the Italian Alps to invite you with your car, bye

    "Guy Martin"="The Legend". I would love to sit down with him, having a cup of tea, and a chat. He's as mental as a box of frogs, but he's my kind of mental :-) I may be stating the obvious, but could it be the weight distribution of the extra water bottles that caused the crash. The bottles in the nose cone would pull the front down as soon as you touch the brakes, lifting the back wheels off the ground . Wiggle, wiggle, spin, CRASH. I am probably wrong, but it is food fore thought.

    Guy has such a great sense of humor, and takes things quite well. That crash was absolutely terrible, and if the body of the car had broken he might have broken his neck. However, he was safe, so I love how he took it in stride.
