The World Marbles Championships 2019
German side ‘Saxonia Globesnippers’ won the 2019 World Marbles Championship on Good Friday in West Sussex, beating former champions Black Dog Boozers by 39 - 0 in the one-sided final.
The car park of the ‘The Greyhound’ public house may not be the most salubrious of locations but, according to folklore, this site has been used since 1588.
It is claimed that marbles have been played at Tinsley Green in West Sussex for hundreds of years, although the current World championship games hark back to its revival in the early 1930s.
The ring is a concrete circle, six feet in diameter and covered in sand. Forty-nine marbles are compressed into a circular "pack" at the middle of the ring.
To decide who starts the game, each captain of the team has a “nose drop.” Here a marble is held on the tip of their nose and dropped onto the playing surface, the marble closest to the edge of the ring without going outside the ring plays first.
Players are each armed with a tolley marble - This is their playing marble and is slightly bigger than the 49 other marbles in the game. A point is scored for each marble their “shooter” knocks out of the ring. A player's knuckle must be touching the ground when shooting, this is known as "knuckling down" in marble jargon.
The first team to reach 25 points wins.
This was the last time the World Championships were held ; 2020 & 2021 were cancelled because of the pesky pandemic.

Awesome. Check out this cool marble game called Pitching Marbles in the Google Play and Apple App Store.
I was born in 1952....played marbles a few times but I was not very good at it! I do have a marble collection!
Thanks for the memories! In Greece (specifically in my neighborhood) we would draw a delta (triangle) and arrange the marbles inside of it. Then each player had to strike the marbles out of the delta, but if their own marble ended up inside the delta they would lose. I've got to say though, remembering how good we became in that game, a lot of the kids in my old neighborhood would be world champions now!

Exactly the same way as you just explained, we kids in Colombia would play that one game...the only difference was the shape of the inner core which was a circle. Good memories. Gracias desde Colombia
If you're the type of mibster that has knuckled down with a taw and shot for an aggie duck, then you already know quite a bit about mibs.

When I was a kid my dad wouldn't let me play marbles "for keeps" because he said it was gambling. Of course, I did it anyway.
No fudgies! HEY! He went over the line!

I'm so confused, thought we needed a hole in the center to try and bash other player's marbles, at least that's how we learned it back then in iberia. Also, shooting with the thumb and not the middle finger?

My thoughts exactly.
Играју ко ретарди,ђидају константно .
Old people act like kids better than actual nowadays kids. Kids nowadays don't even know how to play chess, cards, marbels, spinning tops, yoyos.
They're all cheating... cant move the hand

@@daltoncarpenter8657 marbles date back to Egypt and Greece. I believe they've also been found in India, China and all over Europe. I'm sure there have been dozens of variations of the game over the centuries.
