The rigging for this thing reminds me of the gadget my doctor's office sent me the last time they wanted me to do a sleep study, rather than send me to a proper sleep lab. Mainly what we learned is that I can't get comfortable enough to sleep with an elastic strap around my chest, which was of dubious medical utility.
@bsadewitz
Ай бұрын
I'm fortunate I was able to skip that one and go right to the lab. I suppose my insurance was feeling generous that day(?) The accommodations were EXTREMELY comfortable. I remarked to the technician about it, and she said, "Well, they have to be, otherwise the results could be useless!" I laughed when you called it "rigging", like it's a shipping container or a sailboat or something.

Now to have a great start to Saturday watching Techmoan
This channel is the best way to start a Saturday morning 😄.
What option immediately came to mind for me as a solution for connecting this thing was my subwoofer. I use a passive one connected to a Texas Instruments amp, which has 2 inputs and outputs. I know not everyone can take advantage of this solution but what I realized I could do with this is connect an aux to one of the amp's outputs. (It'll have to be converted to aux from coaxial.) Then plug the aux into my Bluetooth transmitter, then pair it that with the Woojer and boom. Dedicated LFE from the subwoofer channel of my system. And that's also the exact way I was already connecting... My Buttkicker that I got immediately after watching your video on that, so thanks for both! Your content enhanced my setup a couple times.
@javierregalado3363
Ай бұрын
Was going to suggest this. Sub channel output with a bluetooth transmitter.
Vibrating cushion? So the ‘Whoopie Cushion 2.0’?
I was getting a bit of a Spock's Brain vibe wearing it around the front.
I love the honest reviews! Keep them coming. 😊
It’s always a good more when you see a Techmoan upload is in your feed 😁😁
I ended up getting a "Buttkicker Gamer"(same idea as the original just has a clamp that attaches to your office chair) after your video on it and I love it. It really does enhance "presence" in whatever media you are consuming, especially in VR.
Reminds me of the vibration on Roy's phone, from The I.T Crowd.
Back in the mid 80s Pioneer had a product called the Body-Sonic chair. It followed the look of a recliner. I only ever saw one example, which we had in the UK office to gauge reactions. The transducer in the bottom seat was connected directly to the springs in the frame; there was no actual diaphragm. It was designed for use with a portable cassette player, but obviously had other applications. It was fun, but not great in its sound quality. It did once appear on the BBC Micro TV Show, where it was seen in conjunction with a Laserdisc Videogame system. There are images online.
I don't know why, but this calls me back to a time they put huge transducers into movie houses to enhance action movies. I remember watching some Irwin Allen disaster film with this thing that looked like an oversized washing machine. Every time something crashed, or broke apart, this thing would whomp, like the beach towels you were washing were out of balance. Brilliant.
So it's one of the buzzers you get at the restaurant when waiting for a table.
Glad to hear an honest review from Mrs Techmoan. It does kind of feel like that, “Is that all it does?” Anything that requires Bluetooth pairing on each use is a fail on the manufacturer side. Feels like they did not do QA on audio connectivity and focused on the unit functioning. They probably had used wired headphones to make testing easier and just didn’t even consider the Bluetooth failures.
Techmoan is a worldwide treasure.
Laundry Man is the hero we need but not the hero we deserve. 😂

Yet another modern re-interpretation of the Aura Interactor from the early 90's. You'd think if this was actually a good idea that it would've caught on in the past 30 years.
@solhsa

It's like VR: technology has improved so much over the years, maybe it'll catch this time!
@no1DdC
Ай бұрын
The thing is, the Aura Interactor nailed it the first time around. I have two (a backpack and a cushion) and they work brilliantly. It's powerful enough to shake the entire body, not just a small part of it. By the way, I'm doing exactly what he's suggesting in the video and enabling compatibility with all sorts of devices through the use of an HDMI audio extractor. The only downside this device has is that some audio bleeds through. You could probably combat this with some kind of filter, but since I'm using headphones anyway, it's not much of an issue.
@Crazy_Borg
Ай бұрын
@@no1DdC I agree. But I think there were additional fault: The horrible aesthetics (the backpack was just a huge lump of cheap plastic, you wouldn't want to get caught wearing that thing), and that there was no audio signal loop-through.
@no1DdC
Ай бұрын
@@Crazy_Borg It's for indoor wearing and the backpack in particular was heavily marketed to kids, whereas the less cheap-looking cushion was marketed to adults. At least it's thick and indestructible plastic, which makes it very suitable for VR these days. Zero comfort, admittedly, but it's so powerful that you don't need to strap it down very tightly. They had an adorably simple solution to the lack of an audio passthrough: There's a simple 3.5mm mono splitter included in the box. These days, in the age of audio extractors, USB sound cards and software that can output the same audio (with filters) through multiple soundcards (VoiceMeeter Banana is my favorite), it's not really an issue anymore. Fun fact: A very small number of these came with a replacement for the N64 Rumble Pak, the Jolt Pak. It's exceptionally rare (there are barely any photos of it online), but it does exactly what you would expect. There's a 3.5mm audio jack in the pak, which the Interactor plugs into. A brilliant idea.
You are the most underappreciated creator on this platform to me, still kinda miss the puppets though. I have been watching you for years now and as always another informative great video on another piece of tech. I have been curious about these kinds of devices for years since before they made them wireless.

I was part of the kickstarter campagin for the strap & the vest back in 2019/2020 and it was really fun to play with during lockdown. Whenever I'd take my kids out on the double stroller in the neighborhood, I'd strap mine on, found my sony PSP earbuds (yes PSP) and it really kept me moving. I had to try all of the ways to wear it before settling in on the "over one shoulder and under one arm facing front." That seemed to work best for me and my power-walk / half jogging pace without moving around too much. 😀Just a fun little thing, wearable subwoofer that made the music feel louder without actually having to turn it up too much more. I really had a good time with mine ^_^

You want to take a trip over to York to see the Karma AV demo rooms. They distribute Ascendo Immersive Audio and their epic infrasonic subwoofers. It's something special.
I have the old version of the vest and it does a good job as it has a few transducers. I cant imagine a single one working well for sure
On the plus side when it comes time to replace the belt on this thing it'll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
A vibrating cushion? Whoopee!
Hip-Hop by Dead Prez is my go-to bass testing tune too! haha
Bass Transducers are available here in the US from speaker building websites. They connect just like a passive speaker (to an amp) and you can attach them to your chair with screws or bolts.
This product reminds me a little bit of Subpac, which is a wonderful backpack/subwoofer pair. I'd highly recommend it if that's up your alley. Thanks as always for the content.

Yes, I wanted to buy that one actually, but the steep price stopped me there. So I settled on the Strap 3 on a Black Friday deal and actually I am quite happy with it. At least this one you can wear while sitting on your chair, which is not possible with the Subpac (being a backpack ;-))
It's like someone took a restaurant buzzer and just slapped bluetooth on it lol
Going to start my kickstarter for the intelligent bass boosting cushion that also heats or massages, the "Smart-Ass Soundscape Experience".
The aura interactor was a rumble cushion, they also sold a vest version. Think it was around the ps1/ n64 era when it was released. I have one from years ago and the cushion sits at the base of your back. Havent used it for years so cant recall if its anygood
A vibrating cushion? Pretty sure cam girls have been using things like that for years.
So great to simulate your takeout order being ready at the same time you watch a film
This confirmed my thoughts about this this anytime I would see an ad for it.
"Get Lost" kept standing out whenever you turned the box to camera
I have the full Woojer vest and that is really awesome for me personally. I don't have the same model you have to compare but I love the full vest!!
I've been interested in this since I got the Razer headphones with rumble, and love them! They vibrate in stereo and really enhance action movies and gaming.
i know a couple of people who have gotten these to wear in VR, especially when attending VR music events. I'm not sure what is different about the way theirs fit, but they say it really adds to the immersion
You actually used to be able to get a widget like this in cushion form the "Aura Interactor" (original version was a hard plastic backpack, then there was a cushion-format device), company went out of business though and ended up selling all of their stock to a surplus dealer here in AU, I had two of the backpacks (killed the amplifier that came with one of them and they were cheap enough to just buy another) and one cushion back in the day.
I know a lot of Cinemas have transducers under the seats, I wonder how difficult it'd be retrofit one of those into your sofa, but by itegrating it into the cushion/seat itself like the cinemas do, as opposed to just being under the sofa.
@Techmoan you should look into Bass Shakers, you can connect them to any speaker output and attach them to your couch
When the fleet of ornithopters showed up when I saw Dune 2 in IMAX, my pant legs started to vibrate. I don't think there's any way to replicate that experience other than massive speakers vibrating the air in the room.
Years ago, there was a product called a Bass Shaker that used to mount to the floor of your car underneath your seat and that worked, very, very well at providing a sub-bass experience where you have limited space. In my situation it was in a TVR!
I had a chair pad cover thingy. Kinda neat but novelty quickly wore off. Fun!
Thanks!!!
I remember a Cinema I was at some 45 years ago used some kind of speakers bolted to the floor. May be without membranes, but transferred the coil movement someway to the floor. The movie was called Earthquake I believe. It was so exciting at the time that all chairs was shaking following the action😬

Depending on how your audio setup is you could do a single cushion kind of thing with this. Take one of those hdmi audio splitters and wire it to a Bluetooth audio transmitter, pair that up to the device and throw it in the cushion.

Having lived next door to someone who used a ‘shaker’ in their gaming set up I am thrilled to see that such haptic feed back is now available for personal use.
On the cushion idea, that was actually done here in the states in some theaters, some did the cushions and others did the floor under the supports for the seats.
I too love watching Laundry Man. I cosplay him at home frequently.
If you are adventurous in modding sofa, there are a few transducer options especially having the buttkicker amp already.
