There is no known equivalent to the Zafimaniry wood crafting skills. Not a single nail is used in the construction of the villagers’ homes. Each piece of wood is carved with symbolic patterns that ex- press a social order and the reltionships among the villagers.The villagers use a slash- and-burn farming technique that destroys the forest. Dadamundgi and Jean-Marie work hard to convince the young men to stop this devastating practice. “Plant trees, because we, the Zafimniry, we need them forour art.”
