Agree about the tears, proud of Irelands younger generations but nationalism? The song tells a story about the struggles of the nation in past times. Today, Ireland is an open and inclusive country, what a true republic should be. I believe the patriots sung about in the song would be proud it they could see it. Nationalism today can be skewed by populists who are defensive and inward looking not republicans in the truest sense.
