In 10 maybe 15 years someone hopefully more competent will try to pick this story anew. Henry Cavill will be great Vesemir then.
I find it hilarious how all those unnecessary changes the writers made in seasons 1 and 2 keep coming back to bite them in the *insert Tomira here*. Take Ciri killing her kidnapper for example. It's her first kill in the books, and it's an emotional, heartbreaking scene; she's in shock and it clearly breaks something in her. And it's clear that they aimed to recreate this in the show, only... they made her kill those boys in season 1, then she stabbed a bunch of witchers in season 2 (and yeah, she was possessed, but still). So Ciri's "first kill" wasn't her first kill but the show still pretended that it was her first kill, and so I couldn't take it seriously at all.
"Ciri tried healing it with the fuck spell" was such a hilarious sentence delivered in such a nonchalant way, I had to listen to it a few times. Great bit of writing there lol

I still cannot believe how bad Rience's death scene was. How the heck did Yennefer and Ciri let Rience sneak up on them in the middle of an open plain? How the heck did Rience let Geralt sneak up on him in the middle of an open plain? They allowed him to live earlier in the season only to cut him off later with zero additional impact on the story. I don't believe that will be the last of him. They built him up way too much to kill him off like he was just an extra. I wasn't especially into the character or anything, but if that really is the end of him then the writers should go back to comedy. The whole thing played out like an overworld random encounter in Final Fantasy VII.

It really makes it feel like they were just done with his character and wanted to get rid of him. If they felt his character was even tiny bit more important they would have at least given him a more memorable death and that is the very least to ask, but with what we got it just feels like they didn't care about his character anymore..
One specific nitpick I have about Netflix Ciri is her hair color, or rather how it appears in most scenes - more on the yellow side. In the books (described ashen blond) and in game, her hair is somewhat gray. I loved the fact, because if Geralt has white and Yennifer has dark - Ciri has something in between, like she really is their child. In game, her makeup also resembles Yenifer's, and she has a scar like Geralt. I am really missing that visual cue, that connects them. Even if you compare screenshots, pure from visual standpoint they look like family in game and like strangers in the show 😢

I don't know about parallels between Ciri and Rience. I will say this though, the way she kills Rience in the books- with her ice skating on the frozen lake, picking each men one by one and using her Witcher agility to use was one of the rare moments where Ciri actually shines, and I enjoyed her triumph. She cuts Rience's finger off with the blades of her skates as he was holding onto the ice for dear life, and then he drowns in the freezing lake, finger less. Them giving that kill to Geralt seriously down plays the nuisance that Rience was, and the satisfaction you obtain from his demise.

I was so disappointed by the Thanedd Coup. This was an episode I thought they couldn't possibly mess up too badly. But everything you mentioned, I also noticed while watching. All those weird moments and how so many important characters acted without the audience knowing their motivations. Cahir's sudden change of heart was wild and didn't work for me. And I missed Geralt actually fighting his way through all that chaos (instead of randomly killing Rience), his rising urgency while searching for Ciri, his talk from the books with Cahir (which sadly wouldn't make sense in the context of the show),... I was truly excited for this episode, despite everything, but it's one of their worst imo. The chemistry between Geralt, Jaskier and Milva was truly AMAZING though and I'm also mighty sad that this will be the only scenes we'll ever have with them. I won't be watching s4. I feel like there are snips and snatches of how good this could be, but the production staff simply aren't competent enough to pull it off. Regardless of book accuracy, Cahir throwing himself at Ciri's mercy could have been cool, but it's directly contradicted by most of his actions to that point AND the awkward way he he completely switches gears from "I suck, you deserve to kill me" to "nevermind, I'll go fight those guys!" and Ciri never actually does anything! Imagine not only writing, but directing that, and thinking "yeah, this is coherent!" The main issue i had with episode 7 is that its falka tempting and controling ciri to force her to relinquish her powers. In the books it's all ciri's own realisations and logic, her own decision. which is a big growth moment for ciri as a person. as a child she's been doing what others told her, now her CHOOSING to relinquish her powers of own accord is a big step. With falkas involvment in the scene, she once again is being told what to do and tossed around by others. so less of an impact as what it had in the book.. Ciri has no agency, no growth, and accomplishes nothing in that scene. Then Geralt leads her away. This show is ironically really, really bad at showing strong, complex women.

For me episode 6 was too hard to swallow. 40 wizards facing 40 elves, ahh, it was like a scene from Power Rangers. The visual effects? Bad, generic. Not to mention that most of the time they just moved their hands and made sounds of bones breaking. Zero budget. Everything is simplified, and now we know why after what Tomek said: it's our fault, we're too dumb to understand complex scripts. Something I thought you would comment on is Alzur's lightning, a very powerful and difficult spell that no one in the books can replicate. Tissaia casts the spell and, wow, no one dies but a few Nilfgaardian soldiers. A spell that is said to be too powerful to replicate is defended by low-budget generic magic shields.

I love your reviews of the show ! Even when things deviate from the books, you always try to give them a fair chance and see if they make sense in the context of what they did/introduce in the show, instead of letting your knowledge of the books completely color you opinion !
Promise me you won't abandon making reviews about witcher. I absolutely love your take on the witcher show which is very in depth ans i see a lot of myself in your thoughts. 🙂
Keep up the great work!!
I liked how they conveyed the rebelion on Thanedd, the event itself was shown very well and the events in general followed the canon (with a few exceptions and it was good), but everything that happened after that I would call a lame adaptation with lazy implementation and bad graphics. There was also a good fight with Vilgefortz. I would give this season 6/10 better than season 2 (on season 1 lvl it seems) but no more. I don't know what's in store for the show in the future, but there's clearly no good if they don't change or fix the mistakes they've done and continue to do in the past.
I love you for using the Defense of the old Town soundtrack from Thronebreaker at the beginning, it's so good
Fringilla Vigo somehow managed to not only Goku teleport everywhere but also gain lots of weight while being imprisoned in a nilfgaardian gulag. Respect

What I appreciate most about your Witcher Netflix videos is that they aren't about making people mad or anything dramatic. So many videos are about how "the creators hate the books" or "Henry Cavill was wronged" or "the showrunners is a liar". They act so offended by the show and you're just here cool as a cucumber because you're able to separate the show from the books/games and just take it for what it is.

Well, I like to think that it is the showrunners who started it first. While facing criticism of THE SHOW, they talked about racist, homophobic and what not toxic-gamer-masculinity audience, so I can imagine that the yt content sort of backlashed in the same way. However, that is exactly why I like these videos, like xLetalis is making. It's nothing personal, Lauren and the crew... Your show basically sucks, you had everything on a plate, you knew what was working in the books and what was not. You knew what games have expanded upon and you could have drawn from that, you could have even watched the polish version of the show from 20 years ago (The Hexer), which aged badly (and had really poor budget at its own time in the first place) but honestly... the portrayal of Geralt and Ciri by the end of the second book actually meant something there. And this is just one example. The very main themes of the story: the witcher, a dying profession, looking for his purpose in the changing world; traumatized sorceress, struggling for power, realising that some other things are more important to her; highborn child, painfully experienced by war, loosing her parents, loosing her kingdom, chased by everyone... struggling for a sense of safety You guys made "family" and "destiny" and "second game of thrones" marketing without having basic understanding of what it actually is supposed to mean. Even with your own "creative freedom" you lack competences on how to tell an interesting and engaging story. The world you have built is not consistent at all, the rules you are blatantly introducing to the audience are only waiting to be contradicted by the following episodes or seasons. Not mentioning the cinematography elements on their own, which also leaves a lot to ask for. This is just poorly written show, of average production value, with a huge, wasted potential. Just another generic fantasy show, that in some moments give off those late 90's "Hercules" and "Xena" vibes... You have mistaken stars reflected in a pond for the night sky. And somehow, its supposed to be the fans' fault?! Good riddance.

Fun fact:Stregobor actor is Mads Mikkelsen's brother, wich was the second favorite candidate to play Geralt from both fandom and production before Henry appears interested in the role. He did an amazing job making us hate him and much more liking him at the end.

oh an especially we all remember that ciri wasnt at thanedd at the time of the coup
Yeah, that logistics problem is old with the Netflix show but though in this episodes it indeed persists (especially with Geralt appearing out of nowhere behind Rience, Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri running to the nonexistent stables, then to the ferry and so on) it wasn't so bad. Fringila was shown at he inn in witch it was having fun that she learned about the meeting at Thanedd and the missing boats (in witch the elves came). So is entirely plausible that she followed the elves and Chair into Aretuza. Radovid was taken from Aretuza and returned to Vizimir by Philippa and he arrived before his brother's assassination. Tissaia's death was pretty stupid in the show because she had all the support from Yennefer and the situation at Thanedd wasn't so bad as in the books. In the books, as she prepared to kill herself, it was described how she heard footsteps in the distance not knowing who it was (being speculating that they could even be Vilgefortz' men) and the overall situation was more desperate for her. In the show she just killed herself peacefully in her office being near the people who loved her. Also huge waste with Rience being killed like that.
Thanks for giving your review, I'd been waiting for it. Most of the other reviews I've heard have been complaining about how Ciri-heavy the episodes are and how Geralt loses the fight with Vilgefortz and then is injured and recovering in Brokilon when that's exactly what happened in the books. There were plenty enough inconsistencies through the episodes as it is. I was also disappointed that Rience was killed so early in the series - he should be a threat for a while yet.
It never crossed my mind that Dara could be anything else than personified representation. Thinking about it, the purpose of his character is actually a good question.
Thanks for the overall balanced review. While I think this season was terrible, with the repetitive party in ep 5, the endless desert in e7, and the total lack of a cliffhanger in e8 as particular lowlights- the Vilgefortz fight was awesome and probably the best duel in the show. I won’t be sad to see this show get canceled. I hope in a few years it gets rebooted with a better show runner who actually respects the books and the audience.

"You mistake stars reflected in a pond for the night sky!" - when I heard that version while playing Gwent in english a while ago, I immediately fell in love with that line. Netflix one... lacks the tempo or some kind of punch within itself. But this is extremely nitpicking all things considered.
I watched the witcher in 2019 because of superman, henry cavil not knowing anything, loved it. Played witcher 3, read the the last wish, recently finished witcher 1. Witcher 3 is among the greatest game i've ever played, i poured 200 hours into it and also hours watching your details missed and he got me into this world. They killed my interest when Eskel became a leshen but kept watching for him.
I feel sorry for this dude, being force to understand things that even the netflix writer itself blame the viewer on how THEIR show turns out. But a sign of respect to you and to Henry for making this a little interesting for me and being force myself to watch it so I can put the same perspective you have to them.🎉
I do not even wanna question that one lego picture with Geralt and Yennefer on a unicorn........
Thanks for another awesome video! 👍 From episode 1 I started ignoring what I know about the Witcher Saga and all the obvious plot holes. It's a series with a tight schedule after all. But Geralt's fight with Vilgefortz was what bothered me. Not the choreography nor the effects but Geralt's attitude. It's like he didn't even try. He used only once half-heartedly a sign and didn't even drink a potion. He wasn't the well skilled Witcher he is but merely a punching bag. I understand that it was important to show how powerful his opponent is, but letting Geralt lose fighting at his full potential would have been way more impressive. But yet I'm curious how they will continue the series.
I have to go make some food so I can watch this video

For the most part, I enjoyed this final season. Final, because even though they left it with an opening for a 4th season, they also closed the chapter a lot better than I thought they would.
I was also really surprised by the chemistry between Milva and Geralt...it clicked so well and was entertaining, and then add Dandelion to the mix and all I could think was "It's a little too late but I'm happy I at least get to see a bit of this". I do love the actress, she stood out in Shang-Chi as his sister, she's very likeable in my opinion.

@@Even_N.D. She's one of my faves in the book too, funny enough, a few months ago I started reading the sections with her so I was happy to see her so soon. Despite her not being like in the books design wise, Meng'er Zhang (the actress) played her well enough.
The funniest inconsitency for me was the constant change between contact lenses and cgi altered eye colors, sometimes within the same scene. The cgi eyes looked so much better while the lenses were just alien. Especially Geralts lenses made his eyes look in different directions which looked really goofy at times. I just wonder how this came to be like were they ordered to take them in and out every hour of shooting? Plus why did Francesca had contact lenses?
I have no idea how rotten tomato "critics" rate this a damn 77%. Do they double the score as long as its woke? One critic actually said that the big monster CGI was a great feature and we barely got any of it in season 3. These critics are a bunch of dishonest sell outs. It wasnt just about the source material. The show was extremely boring. CGI was meh, dialogue was forgettable, Geralt the star felt like a side character, still forcefully woke. If this is a 77 then fook me im the prince of Bangladesh
I disagree about Milva, actress was terrible, zero chemistry, and as everything else they did zero setup for her, she is just there. This show ended up so bad that it tainted Witcher IP with its terrible lack of quality. I only hope that people watching it not knowing nothing about it before, would just ignore season 2 and 3 and consider season 1, books, that 1 cartoon and games as canon. Because past first episode of season 2 everything is garbage. Hopefully Netflix will cancel the show now.
"The fuck spell", "the woman who can't pronounce Skellige", so many gems in your Witcher videos :D Never change, Letalis! On the Calanthe hallucination: I think creepy is exactly what they were going for. That, and Jodhi May is always terrifying when she plays anger in any role.

@@xLetalis I don't know if you picked up on this, but the Nilfgaardian soldier who tells Geralt to "piss off" in the last episode has a northern accent. I feel like they can't even get the cultures right of certain people so it is just confusing with no Nilfgaard accent. Also, the armor looks dumb, I agree that season 1 looked cheap, but this armor is barely black. How can the black ones be called the "black ones" when what they wear just dark gold colored armor?
Thank you for your reviews through all this past 3 seasons xLetalis. Taking into account what you have said about the rats getting their own spin-off I wonder if Netflix is thinking about doing the same with the character of Falka. It seems to me that the cast was very detailed in her design and to much focus went into her scenes, probably to make her interesting to the audience. They did the same with Renfri, a character that despiste being a secondary character it dwells rent free in the fan´s minds. Maybe they are going to try and full milk out the Witcher cow. What do you think about it?

Video idea! A video on The Witcher 3 about what would have happened if Gaunter O’Dimm didn’t need a proxy and could have completed the quests himself.
Tissaia: "Vilgefortz! How could you do that to those poor girls?!" Vilgefortz: "I'm sorry, you're right - I should have properly sacrificed them in a satanic eel ritual."
When I first learned that Cavill would play The Witcher, I thought he was the least suitable person for the role. Now I can see that in the entire show there was no one suitable but him.
I might have found some unique dialogue for the witcher 3! When in the Painted world, as you enter the blizzard section where you normally run straight for the basement, if you run around for a bit in the middle there will be some corpses on the ground with geralt Commenting that “Olgierd didn’t let them in” during the blizzard!
