David Simon is a very talented guy The way him and his crew are creating the worlds and characters, and telling the stories is amazing. They allways choose very interesting topics. Shows are so honest, very humanistic, they never judge or demonize their characters. Awesome stuff.

I loved The Wire but the subject matter in The Deuce didn't Interest me. Pornagraphy. Maybe I'll give it another shot now that I know thematically what the intent is. As for his comments about Baltimore it's not just the city but the whole state of Maryland is curiously drug infested. I know first hand from having worked in city briefly and living in a neighboring state. From Elton MD in Cecil County in the north all the way down to Salisbury and the shore communities. You see addicts everywhere.

Well that’s the juice ain’t it? Drug use and the alteration of ones mind state is a tale as old as time. Since man first licked a toad and realized what it did to him people been getting fucked up one way or another. How do you solve a problem that exists in DNA? It ain’t to criminalize it but to tackle the issue. Clearly our methods aren’t working.

Simon sees too much through the lens of pos-industrial economic stratification. LA and San Fran are terrible examples for what he was saying. That they were recession proof and therefore lacked problems of other major cities lol New York only one with low crime and recognizing that is a big nod to Gulliani
