The Will of the Father | Jeffrey R. Holland, Jan 1989

President Holland teaches that Jesus Christ showed what it means to submit to the Father's will, no matter the cost. This difficult lesson of obedience is one we must all learn.
This speech was given on January 17, 1989.

"Part of the additional meaning I now see in this commandment [to fill the measure of our creation] is that every element of creation has its own purpose and performance. Every one of us has been designed with a divine role and mission in mind. I believe that if our desires and works are directed toward what our heavenly parents have intended us to be, we will come to feel our part in their plan. We will recognize the “full measure of our creation,” and nothing will give us more holy peace." - Sister Holland
"We come to a university, at least in part, to cultivate self-reliance, to cultivate independence, to learn to think and act for ourselves. Didn’t Christ himself say, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32)? Such freedom is exactly what universities are about, especially this one. We try very hard here to unshackle you from the bondage of ignorance and the captivity of wrong opinions. We want you to be strong and to have the most enlightened intelligence possible. We want you to be powerful and high-principled free agents.
So how do we speak of such spiritual freedom and intellectual independence in one breath only to plead with you to be submissive and very dependent in the next breath? We do so because no amount of university education, or any other kind of desirable and civilizing experience in this world, will help us at the moment of our confrontation with Christ if we have not been able-and are not then able-to yield, yield all that we are, all that we have, and all that we ever hope to have to the Father and the Son.
The path to a complete Christian education passes through the Garden of Gethsemane, and we will learn there if we haven’t learned it before that our Father will have no other gods before him-even (or especially) if that would-be god is our self." - President Holland

Absolutely 100% Every time I listened to this man over the last 10 years I get that feeling every time; and I'm not even Mormon! Because of this man, I have liked the Mormons. Because of the two people that came into my life, I will always love the Mormons! When Christians call them a cult, it starts a fire, and anger. I was once those types of people. Seeing how ugly I was, and knowing how Christians are still today about Mormons, I become quick to defend!.

This old talk came up on autoplay for me. It was exactly what I needed to hear. The Lord led me here today. With the faith of many Saints being tested right now, it is absolutely relevant for today.

I remember being in this audience, and feeling the spirit like I hadn’t felt for years. I hear it now having similarly experienced a drought of spirituality, and felt an overwhelming desire to go to my knees in prayer despite my now artificial knees and pour my heart unto the Lord. Thank You Elder Holland for giving your whole heart to the Lord, so I will mine for however long the Lord will allow!

So true Elder Holland and thank you for your service in the Quorum of the 12. I think our Lord for sending these Messengers to teach us the correct principles of Christ. Starting with this in this dispensation with all the correct principles or Commandments of God. With the Book of Mormon people with the righteous prophets and people and with many other scriptures to teach us correct principles of life by the hand of the Lord's teachings . And with technology today we can watch you speak any time we would like even in the year of 2022. This church must be extremely important because we can listen to The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the great testimonies speaking of Our Savior Jesus Christ 24/7 if we would like. Because time is so short and crucial for the people nowadays upon the Earth May testify of Jesus Christ the savior of the world. In this Great War of Good and Evil, just like the war in heaven before the world was, we fight the same War now and gather the Saints of the Lord God Almighty before the wicked is burned and this Burning will not stop until the souls have learn their lesson. I know Joseph Smith was a great prophet just like the great prophets today and in the future to come. Don't give up the fight against the evil , we are depending on you, yes you. We will continue to serve our Lord even once we leave this world. It is wonderful to be a part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in these last days! Thank you for your service in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in the name of Jesus Christ!

George MacDonald did a good sermon on the temptation in the wilderness. "Only the obedience of the son, the obedience unto death could redeem the prisoner, the widow, the orphan. But it would redeem them by redeeming the conquest ridden conqueror too, the stripe giving jailer, the unjust judge and the devouring Pharisee himself with the insatiable moth eaten heart" Edit I'm glad he mentioned MacDonald.

This is timeless. I am very much like Brother Romney was, I recognized it as he said, it. He trusts in Heavenly Father and doesn't want to tell Him what to do, or steer Him toward his own will. So he doesn't ask. Yikes!! I hope I remember this when I need it, next.

Reconizing and Realization is the greatest gifts to our connection with the Heavenly Father. When we reconize and realize that these gifts are given unto us so we can flourish in them in such a way for the spirit to translate how to think of them on a greater level of guidance and to choose what something is when we gather in our minds what they are and to expound them unto the HF for translation. Reconize the greater things in life with the HF and to realize what things are by his spirit actknowledgeing a purpose to learn the greater things of the Master. It's within us to have a greater desire to connect with them and to ask the HF to reveal them unto us in our desires and choices.

Preparamos todas as coisas e nossas almas esperamos nesses dias nesse amor a vontade do Pai seja sempre cumprida.
