The White Stripes are incredible man, it's just a guitar and a drum set but when you realize that the drummer is his ex-wife you can just imagine them in their earliest stages in some small apartment playing basically the same way they're playing for thousands and thousands of people these days. Jack White was always destined to move beyond that once he established himself, but there is just something about the combo between him and Meg White that is magical.

@@casey2173 Maybe not, but I think he was with Meg White in their intentionally simplistic band The White Stripes as a matter of convenience as much as if not moreso than it was a matter of artistic choice. I can't really say I have listened to much of his stuff since then though to be fair.

@@voteZDLR Jack has said the only reason The White Stripes existed is because of Meg. She picked up drumsticks and was playing round on his drums one day and he said he liked her untrained, raw style. He said her drumming made him play and sing differently than he had with more technically proficient drummers and that was the beginning of The White Stripes..

@@sakshi5435 you can do it all with simple power chords it's just getting it up to speed, it's an easy tune to learn, there's no odd meters or especially tricky bits and once you get it up to speed you'll have ace fun playing it and feel like you can do anything if you try! and as for "yorba" you can play the whole thing with a G maj C maj D maj and a cheeky F, which is often your first guitar lessons contents. I always Jack was a genius of simplicity and foresight, almost like he wanted to make new classics that a beginners could learn easily, like Louie Louie or Jonny B goode. God bless the White Stripes!

@@sakshi5435 i used to enjoy hanging in the local guitar shop and declaring Meg "the best drummer of our generation" and watch the young metalheads have mini meltdowns which I'd counter with lengthy lectures on the history of Rock and Roll and Folk music and I'd always politely win the argument.

I get it. But her with her anxiety.. I don't wish that on her. I say thank you so much for her service and I hope she's living a peaceful and quiet life.. To be famous and then seemingly not all in one lifetime (by choice).. hers is a rare story.

Seen him do that countless times in his performances. Honestly, it's seems rare that he doesn't bust a string.
My God how could you sing a song like that not run out of breath 😂
I remember tuning into Jools Holland all those years back and discovering White Stripes. It blew me away how just two people could make this kind of sound. Meg's no-fucks-given drumming, and Jack's vocals mirroring the frenzy in his guitar, created a perfect balance of visual and sonic harmony. That broken string put a bow on this whole performance. Good times.
So proud to say that I caught them live 14 times! All that travelling and effort was worth it. They were magic.
By the end Jack only has 2 maybe 3 strings left. Perfect.
Their is a certain charm and weirdness in the way Meg plays the drums.
PLEASE release the Glastonbury 2002 Performance, us fans are dying for it.

Punk means self expression in the rawest way possible, if that's not the White Stripes then i don't know what is lol. If you like this, then you should listen to The Gun Club. Awesome 80s blues punk band, the White Stripes covered some of their songs aswell.

This has got to be 1 of my fave 1s.I remember watching 1 of the white stripes videos with my dad he was impressed with anything to do with music is my dad.Hes loves the guitar he has a few musical instruments.Hes always been a talented guy
I vhs’d this off the tele, it’s was such a gloriously feral performance. Jack n Meg wer an unbeatable live proposition back then. His guitar losin a string n goin way way out just made it even more joyous.

Exactly Right! It's not about her technical skills as a drummer, it's about the intensity behind her every beat! Even more than that, it was about what just her presence alone did for Jack and his performance. She brought something out in him that no one else he's played with ever has. She had such an impact on him that he chose to take her name when they got married, and continued to use her name even after their divorce. There would not be a White Stripes without Meg White, There would not even be a "Jack White" without Meg White.

theres a few moments in this where jack goes to turn to look at meg but cant as he only has the one microphone faced fowrards, where as at a normal white stripes gig his mic is angled slightly to the side so they can see each other aswell as a seperate mic faced directly infornt of meg so its cool to see how used to looking at her he was
I wish I had the chance to see them live. I can't get enough of their music. Brilliant!!

This was great! They took Britain by storm. Suddenly the Detroit Duo were the hottest band in Rock! Even John Peel was a fan! And that’s high praise because anyone who was anyone did a Peel session. It was like a badge of honor to be part of that tradition. The Stripes did a Peel session and it’s one of the best things they ever did! I have it on CD and it’s brilliant! Good times and Good days! Unlike now with this rotten Plague! We were practically carefree back then! 👏🏻🎸😎

The date is listed as 11/9/01 - would that be September 11 (the UK date format, since this is a UK performance), or November 9 (the U.S. format, since this was uploaded by The White Stripes, a U.S. band)? If it was in fact September 11, was that the filming date or the air date or both? Because I can't imagine them being able to perform like this on that day.
