    I think it's important to mention that PS3 installs work way differently from PS4/5 installs in that you don't have to copy the whole disk over. Iirc, most games required only a couple hundred megabytes or so, so having only 12 gigabytes of storage wasn't a bad deal if you mostly played disk-based games

  • @AndyMitchellUK26

    @AndyMitchellUK26

    I think it was more aimed at games purchased from the store although some games did install a large amount of data to the drive still. MGS4 was like 8-9GB from memory and GT games also had large data files so the 12GB was very limiting if you had just one of those games.

    Also actually towards the end of PS3's life circle most games are trying to have no installation at all and ultilizing Blu-Ray and cache's advantage to save the storage space. Most EA physical games does that and I was shocked to see NFS Most Wanted 2012's only drawback is the initial loading is a bit longer than digital version.

    I have both still. The original ps3 in my home has no finger prints. Why would anyone need to touch it? They are pretty heavy. Most have the set it and forget it approach. I use the controller to turn it on or the remote and I’m able to put discs in without having to touch the console. It’s heavy and doesn’t need to be supported with the other hand.😂 only reason people touch it is because they want to not so much because they need to. Like magpies they just like shiny things.

    Got this one right when they released. I was hoping for a PS3 for years at this point and there I was, in a mall with my mom, seeing a brand new model with whooping 500gbs that I've never seen before. My mom bought it for me right then and there. I cried my eyes out on the spot for what felt like good 30 minutes. Took it home, and that very day downloaded the Uncharted Drake's Fortune demo as that was the franchise I was getting the console for. 9 years later, that franchise changed my life, and I still play my PS3 to this day. Recently finished Red Dead Redemption and now going through all the MGS games. Good purchase.

    I had a super slim PS3, specifically a Assassins Creed 3 bundle, and it was a really good system. I remember never running out of storage, because the one I got came with 500 GB, and this was when the biggest game to install was GTA and Destiny 1, which paired were only 120-140 GB, and those were the most storage consuming games. Others you wouldn’t even have to install, so I remember never having to worry about storage on this thing. Honestly it was kinda impressive considering the fact that the Xbox one and PS4 first shipped with also 500 GB. I will admit tho that after 3-4 years, my system kept having issues and one day my entire system got corrupted and I had to factory reset it. Still, I loved that thing back in the day. Idk if I liked it more than my 360, but it was a damm good console. Didn’t realize until I got one years later how much different the PS3 Regular slim was compared to the Super Slim.

    When the slot loading drive on my PS3 Slim broke down, Sony India replaced it with a 500GB Super Slim for an equivalent of $100 (apparently Sony India doesn’t have a repair policy 🤷🏽‍♂️), as the slim was out of warranty. Most people I know, who bought the PS3 at the tail end of its EOL, got the 500GB variant. I vaguely remember there being a 250GB version of the Super Slim. I don’t know if we had a 12GB variant, here in India. 8 years on and my Super Slim still runs like a champ. Currently sits next to my PS4 Pro.

All of the Super Slim consoles I found looked just like that one, trashed and possibly broken, with a lot of ones with broken doors. I finally decided to start looking at Japanese models, since they are region free and can be in any language. I found a White Slime 160gb complete in box for $165 shipped from Japan. Only took 5 days to get shipped from Japan. Console and controller are in pristine condition. If you are loking for a good condition PS3, don't be afraid to get a Japanese Model. Only difference between the JP and NA versions, is that Circle is the select button and Cross is back. This only pertains to the XMB and it doesn't affect NA games. I know you have imported some consoles from Japan, so seeing how nice the ones you got were, I was convinced I was going to have good luck!

You will get a 2x increase in load times for games and you'll not get all the texture streaming issues or popin as much or at all based on the game. If it's a partial install from disc or a full install/digital game. Its like a game changer for PS3. PS3 has a few issues with its stability on the store or even navigating it Cross Media Bar main menu but with a SSD its way faster to navigate and things will download and install faster be it digital games or from a disc. But way more efficient with one. But yeah! After I did this I tried it with a 360. Not as good, as you can only use up to a 500GB HDD on 360 and only Microsoft made ones. So you can only use a External SSD with 360. It's decent but not as good as connecting it right to the SATA port. You can go up to 3TB via USB on 360. It's USB 2.0 also. But from my experience the USB gives you something that feels like its connected to the SATA 2 port. It's odd. But PS3 from what I've tried gives better results. I wonder if it'd be possible to do some modding work to bring your idea to life - getting that motherboard from the Super Slim and modding it into a Slim.

    Xboxes One did. Though only for passthrogh purposes I think. There was something mentioned in early reveals that PS3 would have dual HDMI. As many early Blu-ray players did have, one being for audio only. I suspect that was the reason for PS3 as well. Would have been neat if a console could drive two monitors though. The current ones probably would be up to it.

    I have one at my mom and dads house that really needs to be cleaned and have new thermal paste put on it. It's the only PS3 system where the fans on it would really kick up and I've owned a lot of PS3 systems. And you are right, for digital this system was great. I love that they put that Playstation font on the RSX chip, looks cool.

    I have one of these sealed. For a time, I was buying a system to keep sealed towards the end of each system's life. Unfortunately in this case it means I end up keeping the most cheap feeling of the variations. My slim is still going strong so I'll probably never open it. But I kind of wish I had done it earlier and have a sealed slim

    WILD how this PS3 (500GB) model space is not that far off from the amount of GB for the PS5 (667GB). PS5 should’ve AT LEAST been 1TB and that’s still small nowadays. Awesome PS3, I was playing WWF SMACKDOWN! 2 Know your role (PS1) last night. Love the content.

    this model was actually marketed like a streaming device/bluray player, the box had netflix all over it. i modified the hdd tray from a ps3 slim to fit in this model and installed a 500gb and is the ps3 i use today.
