    @@mikicerise6250 Nope, nintendo is boring now. They didn't just copy other developers back then, THEY were the leaders not the followers. Now they just do whatever anyone else is doing, making the zelda series turn into another open world sandbox snoozefest like there wasn't enough of those already. And bowser being the main antagonist for mario ever since the mid 80's? If anything, they're more BORING than most other franchises and that's coming from someone who grew up with it and played my first one in the mid 90's. They seemed so creative and awesome back then but as the years go by it's clear they just do the same crap over and over just with different stupid gimmicks, apparently they would rather die then give an actual threatening villain and not some sad turtle that has been beaten 100+ times. Even mario fans know deep down the end climaxes are always completely underwhelming because they've beaten this guy over and over to the point it's like stomping a goomba, and that's even when he turns godzilla sized - when you've re-used a final boss to that degree there's nothing else to do but get rid of him. If they treated him like Dedede in Kirby where he's a mid boss it would be fine, and when he's a playable character in the RPG's he's fine... but as a final boss he already got boring all the way back in 1996 with mario 64. That long ago. At least when dedede is a final boss in Kirby it's like a big twist because he's almost never the final boss. Bowser could NEVER be a twist or exciting final boss, they killed the character through overuse. Shame. Overly long rant over.

No I mean I had earthbound but like I thought it was a popular game especially considering Ness was unlockable fighter in the original Super Smash Bros so I just assumed that EarthBound was actually popular. Oh well. I don't even have my SNES anymore which was the console I definitely played the most growing up in the '90s and even played a lot as a teenager in the early 2000s and into my adulthood later on, but I could always just play earthbound on my switch now

    This is the era of Nintendo I am most fond of. Reading Nintendo power every month and playing the snes games from the video store. I remember playing virtual boy at blockbuster, it didn’t look very good. Don’t think anyone bought it either. This also was the time ninja turtles stopped being popular. Which sounds a bit strange now.

  • @TSRB87
    @TSRB874 ай бұрын

    Virtual boy was innovative for the time. It definitely partially inspired the 3ds and the gamecube controller. I have fond memories of playing wario, red alarm and galactic pinball there were some good games among the trash ones. Saying it was hard on the eyes is a colossal understatement though. prolonged play would cause you to go temporarily colour blind where everything was a shade of blue and im 100% sure it caused some of the damage to my eyes. it was still a fun gimmic for the time though

    Honestly, I don't think that type of marketing hurt Earthbound. Gross out humour was big amongst 90's kids. That kind of advertising was appealing at the time. Honestly, the price is probably what really killed it. Bundling it with a guide, made it quite expensive, and factoring in that it was a JRPG back when they weren't that popular, would definitely make it a hard price to get past.

    The fact that Nintendo is partnering with Sony Pictures for the Zelda movie is nothing special, this isn't a "Zelda on PlayStation" moment, since Sony Pictures and Sony Computer Entertainment haven nothing to do with each other, aside from being owned by the same corporation. Some people have even described Sony as a sort of feudal kingdom. Just as an example, back in the early 2000s, Sony's computer manufacturer division funded the legal defense of Napster, back when the site was being sued for illegally sharing music files, since people where buying more blank CDs and CD drives. On the other hand, Sony Music Entertainment funded most of the civil suit against Napster, due to how music piracy was affecting them

  • @Internet_Canuck

    @@pablocasas5906 Huh that's really interesting and yeah feudal kingdom is a good comparison. I just kind of find any company associated with Sony to be making a film based on one of Sony's longtime competitors highest grossing franchises because something similar lead to the creation of the Playstation itself. But thanks for the neat facts!

    They never captured that magic again with any of the other yoshi games. They should have just stopped there. "Oh look, giant baby bowser is the final boss again! How... unexpected?" "Oh look adult bowser is somehow in this game now we have to face him as a giant... and he somehow looks less significantly less threatening than giant baby bowser in the original yoshi's island! Oh no, or something?" I think yoshi's island's final boss was the best bowser boss they ever made, weird that the most intimidating version of him was him as a baby changed by kamek's magic. But you can't just keep doing the same thing because it worked the first time, that was cool because it was unexpected. I genuinely feel like that should have been the last battle we ever had with bowser because I remember when I played mario 64 after I was just so tired of him that there was no sense of climax or excitement in getting to the end... so I was already falling out of love with the mario series way back in 1996 and quit mario games for good after the lazy snoozefest that was mario galaxy 2 since they can't get over their creepy bowser obsession.

I don't know why you made this as if this was a bad time. I always looked at it as a good one. Like not that nintendo was failing but that they were choosing to take their time. Look at the switch today. They have already gone through two generations of consoles and still produce stuff for switch primarily with no new console in sight. To me, that's crazier than the era featured here.

    94-96 was the 'Play it Loud' era for Nintendo, and you can't just lightly mention the Donkey Kong Country games, because, they were the BIGGEST deal for Nintendo back then, with the original Donkey Kong Country selling over 9 million copies in 1994, and the sequels each selling over 5 million the years after, these were huge numbers for their day, and kept Nintendo afloat during the early "3D wars" despite DKC not having real 3D, its 3D techniques were enough to "wow" audiences, even through the beginnings of the Playstation. So yeah, I feel like you're missing the biggest part of Nintendo during this era. Donkey Kong Country and the ACM graphic boom.

Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

    I was 18 back in 1994 and read every gaming magazine i could get my hands on. The PlayStation seemed like it could be okay but it also felt like one of those " outsider" companies that wouldn't be in gaming long. Like another NEC, Phillips, Panasonic, etc. The SNES actually outsold the PSX for at least another year as many of us were convinced the N64 would blow it away. Unfortunately for Nintendo, after the launch of the N64, the high price of cartridges, lack of CD quality music and CGI cutscenes, and a lacking library plagued with software droughts made the PlayStation look a lot more appealing.

    I think Nintendo's decision to stick with cartridge format for the N64 was partly their refusal to swallow their pride from the fallout with Sony and the PlayStation behemoth that resulted. If there was for me the oddest period for ANY game company id say it was when 3D was taking over 2D from 1995-2000. You had cameras that never face the angle you wanna jump. They often had a quick and jerky motion which made me sick. Often pixelated graphics. Frustrating jump angles. If you where a gamer who grew up with basic 2D platforming it was REALLY frustrating trying to do angle jumps. I started on super Mario in 1989 and played crash bandicoot, one of my first 3D games in 1997. Now jumps had small pits you never notice untill your right in front of them, being too far to right or left can make you miss a platform right in front of you. It was literally a whole new dimension of frustration and at 13 I had mixed feelings about the 2D to 3D simply because everything I knew was just changed in games. And game designers too where experimenting with what worked in 3D and what didn't with varying results. Some where Amazing like Mario 64 and Zelda ocarina of time. Then on the other side we have bubsy 3D. And then you had mortal Kombat 4 and random pinball games which just didn't seem to belong in 3D at all. Some didn't try at all to be 3D others tried too hard like bubsy and it just bombed. By the Dreamcast/ ps2/GameCube/Xbox generation we had finally learned what worked and what didnt. (Dreamcast was the first imo to get a handle on this new generation but sadly they where gone in 2 years). That gen saw very noticable improvements in all of the above issues.

I was 8 in 1991 and I read the comics but it just made me want to stop reading and play some Mario. They where trying so hard to make it work. It SHOULD have. But it just didn't click. And then the Mario movie in 93 was just too odd.

    Are you kidding, man Nintendo was Poppin Off during the 90's.. between SNES and just before N64 came out I feel like Nintendo was only found in the homes of people that could afford it lol. It had an edge with better graphics and sound effects but SEGA took it to the next level with gameplay.. You could have the same exact title, but two totally different games to play, with the Genesis always trumping over the SNES and that's what made the SEGA so memorable

By mid 2000's they must have lost a lot of people that really made the games what they were, because Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 (though I liked some of Mario Galaxy 1 and 2's music tracks they felt they should have been for a much more deserving game)

    I was in school during the console wars. I swear it was a constant fight between Sega and Nintendo. I always preferred nintendo. But when the ps1 was released, while I was still a nintendo fan boy, I recognized what was happening. Nintendo has never bounced back from it. They tried to hang on for a few generations, but then they just said screw it and started getting gimmicky with all the consoles rather than dumping a ton of r&d into hardware in an attempt to play this monster games that you find on xbox/PS/PC. I'm still a Nintendo fan but, I have owned every Nintendo home console, and most of the handhelds and when I want to play a game Nintendo can't handle, I just use my beast computer that makes both Playstation and Xbox look like trash haha I've also owned most of the box's. I'll give them one thing, they sure as hell got the controller right. It's perfect. Probably why Nintendo ripped it off haha
