The WEATHER GIRLS: Too FAT for Fame? + Izora's Sad Ending | Ti Said What Ti Said Old School Scandal
Do you know the singing duo called The Weather Girls? Did you know that they performed under two different names before they became The Weather Girls? They were called Two Tons o' Fun and Two Tons. Disco singer Sylvester gave them their first break. Though they were as talented as could be, they didn't get many more breaks that did them justice. There seemed to be more focus on their weight than their amazing vocals in the 1980's, but the ladies still managed to be successful...but not as successful as they deserved to be. Do you think that they were shut out of some spaces because of their weight and size?
It's another Ti Said What Ti Said Old School Scandal Gossip video. I hope that you enjoy it!

@@cressapellom4205 Martha's history is what it is...fortunately she found Sylvester in her way that already knew rejection and gave her the chance of her life...but the bottom line here is she would've gotten much further in her career had she controlled her weight better. Singing voice has nothing to do with weight. Living proof of that is Whitney Houston herself. You can be skinny and have a big voice. Martha was born to sing and lead not being just another background singer. Proof of that are the amount of hits her vocals helped to secure over the years and that are nowadays absolute classics.

I think Martha Wash has one of the greatest female voices of all time. It's kind of sad to think that nearly everybody on the planet has, at minimum heard her sing "everybody dance now", most people don't know who she is. It's a shame, because I think that she was, and still is a very beautiful woman. Today, we have Lizzo and Adele (before she lost all that weight), to look at as heavier women that have found success, but Martha outclassed them both.
In a way you can blame it on the music industry and the optics they started pushing on the music industry, but you can also place a lot of that on the public as well, who started to shift away from talent, and began to focus more on the spectacle and theatrics of performers, above talent, until if you didn't "look" like an entertainer, nobody cared what you sounded like. Success today is based more on marketing that talent, and that's pretty much across all the arts in the age of the internet.
@Lightningslick
2 жыл бұрын
Do you think the use, popularity, and marketability of music videos, which focused on style, dance, and image, had anything to do with it ?
You're doing a wonderful job at your commentary on our great entertainers. I appreciate you for humanizing The Weather Girls and helping us to appreciate them and their talent. It's a shame. Ppl tend to see "fat" as not a person. Do you know about a singer from the '60s who walked on crutches? He made a few albums. My mother saw him perform. She said the crowd was so mean because he came on the stage with crutches. They booed at him. He could really sing, too. We can be so cruel and very shallow.

They were indeed Sylvester’s legacy. What’s amazing is they were respected for their voices and that was what their fans payed attention to.
I grew up listening to them and even as a child I didnt noticed their size because I was not taught to be disrespectful. I was taught to have an ear for all genres of music and to appreciate their vocal talents. I really miss these 2 ladies as well as Sylvester the King of Dance & House
This is why the late great Vesta Williams had such a problem with the industry. Large dynamic voice just like Cheryl Lynn. Heavy set woman bursting with talent
I really hate that these girls were not marketed right because they had beautiful voices. I'm glad I got the chance to see them perform live in the early 80's.
Martha and Izora are great singers
Thank you for this story. It’s so disheartening that the article totally dismissed how talented these women are. This was extremely condescending. It’s sad but this attitude still exists . That question on how women who were overweight but sing really good only two came to mind. Jennifer Holliday who was in Dreamgirls, the stage play and Kelly Price came to mind. Both started as big women who would later lose the weight. Great artists you may want to do a video on soon.
What an excellent video & narration & superb psychological profile. This has to be one of the best documentaries on KZread. Thank you.

Hi wills! WOW! Thank you SO MUCH for your beautiful compliments on my work. I am truly humbled.
These ladies had amazing talent. It's such a shame that the music industry was willing to overlook that talent based on nothing more than their weight. It's just another form of bigotry. The industry and public missed out on their talent being able to grow and mature because it was stunted unfairly before the growth could really begin.
I remember Two Tons of Fun/Weather Girls. I also know of Martha Walsh & her singing on many club/house tracks.

They made some really great music together and Martha's solo music is amazing too. Thank you for commenting, Donna B.
Thank you for uploading...I really enjoyed watching! I heard Martha and Izora had a falling out and were still not on speaking terms at the time of Izora's death. I'm glad that wasn't the case.

Thank YOU for watching. Like you, I was glad to know that they remained friends. Thank you so much for watching and commenting, ShyeNYC!
Great commentary you did them proud 👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
😭😭😭😭 I miss you guys... I love you all and I love the heck outta this video! Im disappointed in JET but not a bit surprised by their article. It be our own ppl. Smh I came on to find the Bernadette video that I missed. They should have been collecting royalties from that one shampoo commercial that boasts, "gonna wash that grey right outta my hair"

We miss you too! How are you doing? Jet & Ebony have a history of being problematic. Not enough people seemed to catch on decades ago. The Weather Gils couldn't collect royalties on I'm GonnaWash That Man Right Outta My Hair because it's not their original song. The song is from the South Pacific musical from the 1950s. I hope that we get to see you in a live stream soon, QueenB!

@@TisHotMessHistory oohhhh... ok. I see. Theirs is a sad story, but I love how they loved themselves, in spite of. So much talent overshadowed by stupidity of body shaming. It saddens me. I lost a loved one and on Wednesday a sister friend of mine lost her sister, but God is!!! I hope to see y'all tonight... I hope! Meanwhile, I gotta catch the THE MISS BERNADETTE STANIS broadcast, honey child!!! Lol love y'all and Ti.... you are doing an AWESOME job! Please keep doing what u are doing!
thank you very much for educating me on The Weather Girls I had no idea what these girls went through it didn't even know that much about Sylvester even though I grew up in the late 70s early 80s but seeing both of these documentaries it is a blessing because we need to keep our history alive for everybody can see everything that goes on when it's music Sylvester was a gym and I've heard some stuff about him only just through here say and The Weather Girls of course it's raining men was the only song that I ever heard about from them so thank you for bringing this to me it is so wonderful
Two tons of fun beautiful women who could sing.
Loved it!
This was great! I've always wondered what happened to Izora.
All of them are forever legends ♥️♥️. The writer of that terrible article was mostly saying " the entertainment was watching obese people dance and singing." Just sicking. How hurtful. The writing of yester year would be shot down now.
love love love these Divassssssssss
I must say I enjoy your content your page . Many blessings to you continue success.
These women deserve to have their story done properly and be authentically accurate

I get these old school scandal videos out every week. I live stream a little too. In case you are interested, Oran Juice Jones live streams with us every other Thursday. I hope that you enjoy it here!
Thank you for this post !!! Yessss !!!
For me, main problem was image and titles. Like two tons of fun, think big, etc. Its made them attached to their weight too much. Even though it's made them more famous (kinda) its ruined their serious image. Only people who actually listened to their whole albums know how talented they were. Most average but pretty singer I know is probably Taylor swift. Thanks u for making this video. There ain't no much vids about them and it's pretty sad. Love ur channel Ti

The problem that you have with them is exactly what I'm pointing out in this video. The industry didn't take them seriously and their size was played up in almost everything they did. It hurt them in the end. I agree with Taylor Swift. Thank YOU for watching my video! I'm thankful to know that you love my channel, Shumba Chidawo.
I LOVE MARTH WASH- ALWAYS HAVE AND ALWAYS WILL! ON THE STRENGTH!!!!!
