CC & the music factory did her so dirty hiding her in the dark while using a model prototype to mimic her voice. The disrespect! Martha deserves a proper tribute at an awards show. Give her her flowers while she's still with us ❤️

That vocal on Taking Away Your Space is AMAZING. I just heard it for the first time while watching this and it reminds me of the first time i heard Ain’t No Way by Aretha. You definitely just put me on. I’m even hearing some connections to those deep house vibes that Bey has on her new album. Chile, if Rebbie really sang like that, she would've been far bigger than Janet and also just as big as the early Jacksons.
Ever since I learned that Martha Wash is the one behind the songs of C+C Music Factory and Black Box, I became an instant fan, even though I've already known her since the early 80's via 'It's Raining Men'. She has one of the most beautiful voices in the whole wide world. Right there with Aretha, Mariah, Barbra, Toni and Whitney. I LOVE 'TAKING AWAY YOUR SPACE' TOO!!!!
Taking Away Your Space is my favorite song by her.
One of my favourite songs is Martha and Luther's duet. OMG, I had that on REPEAT for years.
This has been one of the most enjoyable interviews to watch. I thoroughly appreciated this live musical journey of the great Martha Wash!!!! Great job on the interview. 🙌🔥🔥🔥🙏

This is so beautiful and to think that Martha remembered her roots and remembered Sylvester and Izora. I still listen to all of their music even into 2022. They all made great hits. Thank you Martha and you are still as beautiful as always..Keep it up your doing great..
I seen her live at a private event in Florida and baby she tore the place up with that beautiful voice!
I can’t say enough about Queen Wash. Her artistic contribution and prowess is absolutely astounding. She has one of the most infectious voices to every grace my listening ears. Martha, if you’re reading this, know that you’ve saved my life and continue to give me life! You are EVERYTHING.❤❤❤

I enjoyed this video. Martha Wash is a legend. I love her debut album and her recent album Love and Conflict. I would love to work with her one day on a song. Her voice is one of the best. Keep doing your thing with these interviews.
...she is a cultural icon....on so many levels....there is such a ....rigor ...discipline...authenticity...heat around her work with...Sylvester and Izora...the 3 of them sounded like a choir together...black and supernatural...a whole world within themselves....they are gospel...and disco...and pop....and jazz....and something else altogether.....her solo work is also very powerful...and her courage and convictions still carry her through...she can sing the phone book....effortlessly..and she is recognized...as superior....immortal...universal....and unique....her jazz chops are stellar....confident...no hesitation....in her approach or attack...the most recognizable...unsung diva in the business....under God...she is one of the most worthy....
Martha Wash is one beautiful talented soul and her music lives on forever!!!
LOVED THIS!! Miss WASH is much deserving of this honor. I go all the way back to 1978 and '79, when I first heard SYLVESTER & Two Tons O; Fun. P.S. Please bring back the MAHALIA JACKSON EXPLAINED episode!
Thank you for sharing this video on legendary vocalist Martha Wash (and vocalist Izora Rhodes-Armstead). :)
Ms. Martha Wash you can never be boxed in, your voice is too dynamic and beautiful--too much genius. But we want your Gospel album. And another Soul album. She is so underrated. Beautiful Person. I see why Sylvester chose her.
Her voice is so powerful. I saw her perform at a club. They were were issues with the sound system, but Martha started singing a cappella. Her voice was so strong that no one could tell the mic wasn't working.
Mutha WASH 💐💐💐
Martha is a legend!
Martha Wash has an amazing story. I can hear her tell her story over and over. It fascinates me so much especially her years performing with Sylvester. I once saw Martha & Izora exiting a Cadillac behind the Palladium in New York City. They were entering through the backstage entrance because they were doing a show that night. When I saw them you can just feel the years of performing just all around them. They were walking in as if was just another show to them. LoL. I also had the privilege of seeing Martha & Izora singing background for Sylvester at a Record Pool party at the Pardise Garage in NYC IN 1986. There performance blew the roof of the place. They literally put to shame all the other performances that night. It felt like church in a Night Club. I was only 17 years old and I was watching these legends do what they do best, Sing. It was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life hearing all 3 of them sing on that stage. You can feel the love Martha, Sylvester & Izora had for each other. I was only 17 but I will never forget those voices. It was amazing.
I opened for her in DC she is Beautiful, Warm and Amazing! 😍
Martha’s one of my top favorite singers and music industry inspirations. She’s paved the way for many (myself included) and I can’t wait to see what she does next. As a child of the 80s/90s, she’s been the soundtrack and reference I hear when I think of someone SANGing. Martha you’re a true gem 💎👑✨ I bet they had to pay a pretty good penny to repair that roof after you sang in DOWN! As always thank you BMA & Malik for these AMAZING STORIES 👏🏾 These mini-docs are music history!!! I enjoyed watching them so much 🫶🏾💐✨ Ps. My parents raised me right so they always reminded us that it was really you singing those black box and c&c songs when the videos came on 😂
Thank you so much for making this video! I love Martha wash. She is so underrated people need to know more about her.
Another great interview. I admire your preparedness and presentation. I've ALWAYS loved Martha Wash, and I loved that Sylvester allowed them to shine. Some people assist in creating the soundtrack to your life, and Martha is it for me. One specific tidbit of a selection, is her duet with Luther Vandross "I Who Have Nothing" ...it always brings me to tears. Thank you for doing a great job!
I'm getting goosebumps just watching this deep-dive conversation. What a blessing!
She is truly an icon I will always carry in my heart
Martha!!! Thanks you!
Great mini doc on one of my favorite singers, Martha Wash. After C&C Music Factory did her wrong in '91, Martha was asked to join the group in 1994 for their second album. She sang alongside with Zelma Davis(the same woman who lipsync to her voice)on the hit song, "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me". Side note: Paul Jabara wrote "Last Dance" for Donna Summer in 1978.

She is a once in a lifetime treasure. If singing is the name of the game, and the game we are actually playing, then she sings it all and basically sings them all down. She can literally sing ANYTHING.
Thanks so much she is my idol and one of my Fav singers of all times.
Miss Wash is such a fine, exquisite, contemporary blessed and gifted artist with a 1 second recognizable voice that we all got treated for so long, we are so lucky for that! World is a better place because of her and everything she has been giving us! Amen 🙏👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🌹❤️✌🏼

Everytime I play ; I've Got To Make It On My Own from the Backatcha' lp,can't help but be moved. ( Yes, a grown-ass man tearing up ). The harmony of steel guitars and gospel greatness along with the majesty of Martha's voice sends this song to another realm. My favorite line from it? " So many say I'm wasting time, but remember this time is mine. And I'm determined, to hold on... " 🎤🙏🏾
been a fan since the SYLVESTER years. Her voice has always given me shivers. Even when the BLACK BOX song came out, when you saw the video, you just knew the voice of that the woman was not hers. I had recognize the voice, but was confused. It happened again with C&C. She took them to court & won. Finally when she got her own album contract. That album was fantastic. It aged well. I saw her 3 times live & she never disappointed. She's a fighter & it shows in her sublime voice. Thanks MARTHA we love you & we support you.
Taking Away Your Space was nothing short of Amazing. I'm shocked it wasn't more popular. Best vocals ever
She has a great body of work. Love her voice.
Tara Vega , a great artist on the same level of Martha Wash, and from the disco era. Ms. Vega sang on The Color Purple soundtrack (“Ms. Celie Blues”) .
Wow!, don't have to dance for your life thank you so much for an incredible amazing interview! It's so messed up on people get taken advantage of so much behind the scenes🕛👍

Love it! She’s so underrated it’s crazy.
Thank you for this interview with Martha Wash. She is one of my favorite singers. I have always wanted to meet her and buy hey lunch and have some laughs. Now I know why I love the song “Centipede “ because of Miss. Wash vocals. Shame on the music industry for not promoting & being honest on who really is singing. Martha Wash is one of the world’s greatest singers. Thank You To The True Queen Martha Wash!
Thank you so much for capturing these interviews. These are precious gems that the industry tries to leave behind, but we will never let these legends be forgotten. It seems like major media doesnt like to focus on the older artists and only go after the new hip ones that are "in" at the moment. Please continue to do this great work and recording these moments of insight from these artists. Thank you🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏🏾👏🏾
Pls do an interview with cheryl lynn her story must be told as well
Amazing Artist… That Song Just Us was such a big hit here in NYC on WBLS On heavy rotation
When I first saw the Black Box video I thought they will at least show Martha Wash in the video..but she was never featured.. I knew it was her! Everybody knows her voice, but they didn't put her in the videos!!!
Thank you I love her.
Those vocals of Martha Wash was the reason the entire music portfolio was tremendous. … Gotta love those lawsuits! 😎🍷❤️
Just keep singing diva ....that is what you are here to do ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
When I hear this lady it takes me back to the late 80s/early 90s music era when dance acts were sampling powerhouse vocalists and not crediting them. I loved this interview and to hear the insight and thoughts on her musical journey. I am one of those that gravitated to her dance stuff (sorry Martha!). Her 2 tracks singing with Jocelyn Brown for Todd Terry in 1997 "Keep on Jumpin" and "Somethin Goin On" are considered dance classics. There is a reason why her voice resonates in dance music, this is because she is giving a warm injection of soul to balance the cold synth slick tracks. It's also so great she is still passionate about exploring other genres. There is another powerhouse vocal trinity that were getting #1s that can't be ignored. It consists of sampled women Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown (Snap "The Power") Loleatta Holloway (the singer on Black box "Ride On Time"). Would love an interview with Jocelyn. One of my favourite track of hers is Jamestown "She Got Soul" which is compromised of her satisfying runs and riffs!
Wow, I had no idea Martha Wash (essentially) sang "Centipede". Learn something new every day !
Thank you for this interview and video. I love Martha Wash. I bought every record she has brought out in my teenage years to now. It's awesome to hear the story from her. Blessings!
