The Weakest Home - Domestic Violence ᴴᴰ ┇ Muslim Spoken Word ┇ by Kamal Saleh ┇ The Daily Reminder ┇
Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaathuhu
One of the biggest issues facing families today is domestic violence. Whether it be against the wife, husband or children - we can all play a part in bringing an end to this. The family is the backbone of the society and if we want to keep it firm, we must learn to love, respect and protect one another.
Allah (God) teaches us in the Quran that "The example of those who take allies other than Allah is like that of the spider who takes a home. And indeed, the weakest of homes is the home of the spider, if they only knew.(29:41). If we look further into this example we will notice that the spiders home is not weak merely because of the web but also due to the habitual structure of many different types of spider families, which are filled with murder and abuse. A feeble home is indeed one which is filled with much violence. Such are the intriguing parables God sets forth in the Quran to teach those who ponder.
Please NOTE: This practice isn't 100% for all spiders to follow as many males do continue to live - however it is still very common - watch this video for more info

    SubhanAllah! This bought me to tears as it resonates with me so intensely. I come from the weakest of homes but that doesn't make me weak. What a wonderful insight into a verse that I previously had difficulty with as it's known that the silk of a spiders web is very strong, hence spiderman! SubhanAllah, I hope to feel every verse of the Quran the way I felt that one. May Allah grant you the intercession of the Qur'an on Yawmul Qiyyamah!

It makes me sad that many many many brothers "forget" this, I don't even know why some have that much need of feeling superior to us.. they use the excuse (when you correct them) "I'm not Muhammad (Salla allahu allahi wa salam)" Come on! This makes me mad, we MUST change ourselves if "being us" is wrong! May Allah guide us all.

    Read the Islamic Holy Books: Bukhari (72:715) - "Aisha said, 'I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women'" This is Muhammad's own wife complaining of the abuse that the women of her religions suffer relative to other women. Muslim (4:2127) - Muhammad struck his favorite wife, Aisha, in the chest one evening when she left the house without his permission. Aisha narrates, "He struck me on the chest which caused me pain. Bukhari (72:715) - A woman came to Muhammad and begged her to stop her husband from beating her. Her skin was bruised so badly that she it is described as being "greener" than the green veil she was wearing. Muhammad did not admonish her husband, but instead ordered her to return to him and submit to his sexual desires. Abu Dawud (2126) - "A man from the Ansar called Basrah said: 'I married a virgin woman in her veil. When I entered upon her, I found her pregnant. (I mentioned this to the Prophet).' The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: 'She will get the dower, for you made her vagina lawful for you. The child will be your slave. When she has begotten (a child), flog her'".

    @Falahia

    PRIME PREPARED This is the full Hadeeth in context for the first and third: Rifa'a divorced his wife whereupon 'AbdurRahman bin Az-Zubair Al-Qurazi married her. 'Aisha said that the lady (came), wearing a green veil (and complained to her (Aisha) of her husband and showed her a green spot on her skin caused by beating). It was the habit of ladies to support each other, so when Allah's Apostle came, 'Aisha said, "I have not seen any woman suffering as much as the believing women. Look! Her skin is greener than her clothes!" When 'AbdurRahman heard that his wife had gone to the Prophet, he came with his two sons from another wife. She said, "By Allah! I have done no wrong to him but he is impotent and is as useless to me as this," holding and showing the fringe of her garment, 'Abdur-Rahman said, "By Allah, O Allah's Apostle! She has told a lie! I am very strong and can satisfy her but she is disobedient and wants to go back to Rifa'a." Allah's Apostle said, to her, "If that is your intention, then know that it is unlawful for you to remarry Rifa'a unless Abdur-Rahman has had sexual intercourse with you." Notable points: - When you claimed that Aisha complained of the abuse of the women, you are obviously wrong because it is clear in context that she was referring only to the woman that was beaten. - In Islam, if a husband divorces his wife three times, they cannot return together until she marries another man, had sexual intercourse, and gets divorced. What is meant by "had intercourse" is that it should be a real marriage made for the intention of living with each other forever, and not a staged one just for the woman to return to the first husband. - The Prophet (PBUH) never said that the woman cannot divorce until she had sexual intercourse, but that she cannot return to her former husband. The woman has every right to leave the relationship. - Men in Islam are forbidden from harming their wives. It states in the Quran, "...Do not retain them (i.e., your wives) to harm them..."( 2:231). The mans actions are forbidden in Islam.

    Domestic violence is visited upon children as well as upon wives and sometimes also husbands. The husband and wife at least chose to live together, whereas the children have no choice and are completely at the mercy of the parents. Have you written any poems about the sin of verbally and physically abusing children?

    Salaam May Allah reward you in abundance for your dawah and guidance, Ameen There are a lot of evil men out there who oppress their wives, with control, emotional and physical abuse. May we all help our sisters in need to keep them strong, safe and to know they do not deserve this and they are not to blame. To some others, it is very easy to tell a women to leave her husband, some cannot out of love and patience, some cannot out of fear of reputation and some are kept captive and beaten, tortured, not allowed to eat or have contact with anyone, isolated but having to fulfill the duties to your husband and his family. We all wish for marriage to be lifelong, but in this way it is unjust and not the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet or out of humanity. I have been in this situation and lost my baby in the process of being beaten, I would just like to say to any wife or mother, this is a hidden blessing, because your reward and refuge is with God and your child will take you to Paradise and be with you there. Keep strong and never lose hope in Allah I have experienced domestic violence myself. I married a Turkish man and lived in Turkey with him, he was extremely violent and I could not reach out to my family in England, Luckily, a day came where I was rescued and I'm now back home and divorced. Our heart's and minds grieve for the scars we receive. Wounds heal, but they leave and endless pain in your heart for those who have suffered in this way. May we pray for peace, justice, paradise, freedom and protection for all humanity by the power of Allah. Ameen I also write poetry and I couldn't have written this better myself. So again, May Allah bless you and reward your wise and true words. Ameen To anyone being oppressed, you.re strong and can win any fight, reach out to anyone for your helping hand and may we all help one another in any way we can...

    This is a beautiful poem. It applies to men and women who abuse their partners; irrespective of their gender. It is the responsibility of the abuser to mend their ways; but there is responsibility on the abused - to leave the situation, seek help, do what they can for themselves; do anything. Particularly if children are involved. I know this is easier said than done, particularly for those who have nowhere to go to and no one to run to. This happens a lot - many people are aware another person is enduring domestic violence, and that there are children present in the home where this happens. Yet, they do nothing. If you can, do something. Even if it is to just call the police, or social services. The child has a right to a safe and secure home, and domestic violence harms children for life. Domestic violence does not get better - the abuser is sick. It continues like a vicious circle, until something forces it to stop. Many women (and men) are killed because of their abusive partners. If you are aware of this in another's home, please do something. It is not "interfering". It could be saving a life, especially the futures and opportunities for those vulnerable, defenceless children involved.
