The Hungarian's refusing to fire on the Poles isn't the cause of the bromance, it's just another example of it. It goes back centuries. Hungary and Poland have shared a king in the past, and continually had the back of each other, often when nobody else would help.

Eastern Europe, and Poland in particular, did get a raw deal. The problem stems from it not being a two sided war. Russia had their own agenda, and I think the allies were a bit caught between keeping the Russians on-side and actually trying to do the right thing. I think Stalin was hugely underestimated.

on the night of August 3-4, allied planes - one halifax and three liberators - appeared for the first time over Warsaw with the Polish crews of the 1586th Special Squadron. It would not be surprising if it were not for the fact that this drop was the result of insubordination of Polish crews. Despite the intervention of the representatives of the Polish government with the British authorities, the action over the city was not approved by the deputy commander of the Mediterranean Allied Air Force (MAAF), marshal of aviation John Slessor, who claimed that such flights are marked by a high risk (the route was 1,400 km long and led over the Adriatic, Yugoslavia and Hungary, where there was a strong anti-aircraft defense and base of night fighters), and in addition Warsaw is in the operational zone of the Red Army and it is Soviet aviation that should support the insurgents www.polska1918-89.pl/pdf/zrzuty-dla-powstania,1797.pdf

3:35 Yes, indeed, it would be foolish from Soviet perspective, if they weren't liberators... Ah, but the essential question for Russians is, "were they liberators, as they claim, or just a third party to the conflict?" They claim to be liberators... who just a week ago have pompously celebrated the anniversary of liberating a dead ruin and were outraged Poland doesn't celebrate with them. About the same time Paris revolted, and Allies, although it ruined their plans and they weren't fond of the French aspirations in general, dropped everything and rushed to help.
@Mira-K
4 жыл бұрын
@Tom Fury Soviet radio was calling the Poles to rise up, that's first. Second, so reestabilishing a free state fighting common enemy is somehow directed against the "liberator"? I thought that's the very definition of the word... Third, even if I'm willing to accept that there were valid logistical reasons for halt of Red Army's advance: banning allied aircrafts from landing on soviet airports and destroying Polish resistance units from Eastern Poland heading to support Warsaw is nothing short of proof that Soviets put greater priority on subjugating Poland than on driving the Germans out of it. Such "liberators". If the USA liberated France the same way Soviets did Poland, de Gaulle would die in Alcatraz for "collaboration with Nazis" and Paris would be a pile of rubble instead of world's cultural capital.

@@user-jv3mm6vt6e Because it's true. Lend lease was signed within weeks of the former ally of the Soviets stabbing them in the back and the first convoy reached Murmansk well before the Germans got to Moscow. Stalin himself admitted that it was the surety of lend lease that allowed the Soviets to stop the Germans in the suburbs of Moscow. You can whine all day about the number of Soviet soldiers that died fighting the Germans, it's not the Allies' fault that the Soviets were lousy soldiers with lousy equipment lead by mostly lousy officers and commanded by a supreme leader that didn't care how may he killed. I sincerely thank you for your wisdom and comedy. When I get enough money and maybe trust from parents that it’s safe, I’ll buy your merch.

The sewers speak Polish. That's why only Poles get to become plumbers because they can communicate with the sewer
"Azeris from Soviet Azerbaijan fought for Germans in Poland" me an azerbaijani: *confused screaming*
I’m not sure if it’s appropriate or even how you do it but I love that I learn and laugh (maybe we are both bad people) at historical events........ that really aren’t funny. We have a very similar sense of humor. Keep up the good work!!!!

I think that it’s important to laugh a little even at tragic events. It makes them more approachable for people.
Yay,you posted :D
Fun fact after the uprising polish soldiers and German worked together to evacuate civilians from the city Some of the civilians ended up in work camps And u failed to mention that ukrainians soldiers were killing polish civilians sometimes against greman orders And German focused on hospitals they were bombing them and they were killing doctors and nurses they also burned alive sick or wounded people form the hospitals
Welp, sometimes people just disappear in democracies
Lmao that intro was amazing. Absolutely great video. Still so underrated.

When I saw the title, my first thought was the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which was a year earlier and - spoiler alert - didn’t go any better for the Poles.
The dodo water tour guide. Probably the best way I’ve seen that worded in the history videos I’ve seen of the uprising.
Video about Polish-Hungarian's bromance would be epic ;)
"Even if you don't help and are just watching as we fighting your 'ally' , it is still better than those who gave false hope. I love you my Hungary brothers" -Some guy in poland

there were supposedly - dont know it if it is a rlaible soruce negotiaitons about hungarian forces literally joining poles fighting in the uprising, but the home army wasn't able to guarantee anything for the hungarians if they soviets came in; hungarians really were tired and wanted to go back home
Pretty neat video
Amazing!
