Rick is broken. He’s been trapped for almost eight years at this place. He has no true friends or allies there. He figuratively killed himself on the first episode after a literal attempt to do so. He’s traumatized and has PTSD. He needed Michonne to help break through the walls he set up to protect himself. I was frustrated with Rick too but I felt bad for him as well. He was alone here and never thought he would see her or Judith again so he just killed that part of himself. I’m happy Michonne was able to bring him out of that trauma!!

My favorite episode of this show and now in my top 5 episodes of TWDU.
