The Waikiki Beach Boys - Breeze of Hawaii, Side 1

Музыка

This is one of my favorite Hawaiian records. Made in 1967(?), this version of the album is reproduced in stereo unlike the mono versions you commonly see available online.
"As you sit indoors on a rainy afternoon, do you sometimes lean back in your armchair, close your eyes, let your imagination wander and dream that you are on some exotic South Sea island, surrounded by beautiful girls in grass skirts and with the sunshine belting down from a cloudless sky as you sip coconut milk in the shade of a palm? Well, we can dream, can't we? O.K., when, and if, you ever get to that paradise of earth, you will probably find the food upsets your tummy, the heat is unbearable and the insects make your flesh crawl, but such thoughts have no place in your daydreams.
When your mind is seeking relief from the cold damp and smog of home, all you want to dream of is the rolling surf, the sunrays flickering like silver darts in the spray, and those endless miles of golden sand. Perhaps this mental search for Utopia explains why the music of such places as Hawaii remains so popular in an environment which could hardly be more contrasting.
It affects us all. Why else would the surfing music of Jan and Dean and The Beach Boys be so popular amoung kids who have never seen surf-boards? And why would albums of Hawaiian music continue to be amoung the best selling items in the record companies' catalogues? There's something about those singing guitars and sweet rhythms which helps us dream on.
The song titles alone are enough to conjure up visions of sun-kissed Hawaii, tunes like "Hilo Kiss", "My Tan", "Moonlight Hawaii" and "Hawaiin War Chant", and all of them are given that special Waikiki Beach Boys touch.
It would be a sad thing if you weren't allowed to daydream and forget the troubles of the day now and then, and we certainly don't want to spoil your illusions, indeed, we believe a spin of this record will enhance them. So spread a few travel brochures on the floor for effect, pour yourself an ice-cool drink, huddle a little nearer to the fire, listen to the Waikiki Beach Boys and sense the Breeze of Hawaii."
Side 1:
1. Honolulu
2. My Tane
3. Poinciana
4. Hawaiian Dream Boat
5. Paradise
6. Hilo Kiss

This album was played on board the pleasure cruiser " Pride of Paignton " when she ran trips from Paignton Pier in 1969 and 1970. John the Captain crossed the bar a few years ago, but I still see Dave the engineer every week. He lives about 10 minutes away. Many happy memories of thise years with this collection.

My grandfather had all these records and I fell in love with the sounds when I was a toddler. For some reason I thought that middle palm tree was in imminent danger and I used to call "Ponciana" "tree fall down" music. When he died I inherited his record collection including all these.

retinasoup Hi. I will ask my Mum. Don't know how many of them would still be alive. Unfortunately, my Dad is no longer with us but he carried on playing right up to the end although not Hawaiian music, he was more into jazz and trad. The band were not happy that their names were not put on the album sleeves which is understandable. Every time I try to get information online, all I get is the surfers of the same name or the Beach Boys!

flc Surrey sorry to hear about your dad. it's an injustice that they weren't credited on the album. i have three other albums by the waikiki beach boys that don't mention their names either, although on the album, "hawaiian wedding song" there is a small photo of the band on the back cover.

retinasoup Hi again. Thanks re. my Dad. Dad was not the drummer on "Hawaiian Wedding Song" he had left them by then. My parents kept in touch with the other members for years and then lost it, that's life. I know they are not all still alive. I do have a professional photo of the band in the form of a postcard but no where to put it here unfortunately. Thank you for sharing this album, I was so happy to see it!

It was released originally on the Music for Pleasure label, in UK with the catalogue number MFP 1142. My Uncle David bought the album from one of our original Record Centres, Cliff & Halifax Limited in Snow Hill, Wolverhampton, and he brought it over to play on our record player.

Dee-Jay-Gee-Bee So if I got the original Vinyl cassette CD or DVD and i can't make a MP3 file from it and listen it in my modern radio in my car? So i must and pay again and again and again for that music when i'll already pay for it before? That make no sense at all. And that dumb behaviour only turn entire humanity go back to middle ages when knowledge and culture was expensive and it was make it and reserved only for priests kings and some other rich people who treat peasants like a dumb slaves cuz they all were poor. Besides I use this music only for myself. I don't sell Pirate copies and i don't make profits from that so why in the hell i cant enjoy again some music from MP3 files. And the only thing you are thinking that what i do is wrong is only example of how greedy are all musicians and entire Music Industry is. So how many billions those morons still need and make in their life and act like a bunch of dick cuz they all are rich as fuck For example like Sir Gay Elton John, Madonna Mick Jagger Prince Celine Dion Justin Bieber etc.and etc.. Besides Vinyl CD or DVD is not forever and material for those source of music are very bad as fuck so ask yourself do you wanna keep your all Vinyls CD and DVD in good condition? then get yourself a converter and make a MP3 or MP4 file and enjoy the music forever.

Wow. I said 'or'. I hope you feel better for getting all that off your chest. I only suggested an alternative and provided a link to a marketplace to do so. You do what you want, I'm not in charge of your actions. Though I should point out my vinyl copy of this is far superior to the sound quality of this upload, so if you convert to mp3 from this you'll have a poor mp3, whereas if you buy the vinyl in mint condition from my link and record yourself an mp3 off that then you'll have a decent mp3 to enjoy 'forever'. Maybe in the meantime have another play of this and chill out, dude...x

I also remember them as I took them over from Syd Gillingham. He recorded this al um for map at Abbey road studios. Bob and Dave Turner along with Joe Dearden. .y first gig with them was Rainjam football club where I took the lead on Hawaiian guitar. I used to visit Syd at his home in Weybridge. We eventually changed the name to Hawaiian Beachcombers and carried on recording at Abbey road under the World Record label.

@@aaronrobinson8313 Hi Aeron. I cannot remember what tuning Syd used for the records. It could have been Hibase or A7. I used A7 as, like Syd, I had a 6 string guitar. I visited him at Weybridge a few times and we exchanged notes. Later I bought a twin neck 10 string on each and with 8 pedals. Later I heard from Syd that he bought a pedal steel as well as he felt that it was the way to go. I used the D13th tuning as it gave a lower sound when playing on the the key of Eflat. The usual was to progress from 6 string to 10 string by using E13. I did not manage to meet Syd after that. I don't know why. I lived in Stoke Poges then and he would pop in for a chat now and again when visiting his mother who lived in Slough. Lovely chap.
