    The secret is the first part from the first drop and first few hills actually goes uphill, the twister section is kind of elevated way above station height, and the return run is all downhill. Literally perfect use of the terrain for a woodie.

    You can tell that Holiday World puts a lot of effort into maintaining this ride to be the best that it can be. I mean, they retrack a lot of the ride every year to ensure its smoothness, and also contracts The Gravity Group to redo entire sections and re-align the ledgers of the structure to keep it even more smoother. Holiday World must spend a lot of money to retrack and maintain The Voyage every year, but they do a fantastic job.

    They also use a completely different type of wood then most parks, Ipe wood is denser and stronger then yellow pine. This makes the bending and installation more lengthy and costly but ensures a stronger more durable track in-between retracks.

    I’ll be in the minority here, but I’m glad this thing still runs PTC’s. It adds an “old school out of control” feeling that GCI’s and newer GG’s lack. The PTC’s beat me up a bit and make me fight for laps. A 25+ lap day on this thing is a workout unlike anything else I’ve marathoned.

    Not to be a hater, but I rode this about 6 years ago and I decided never again. Roughest woodie I've ever been on, and that includes the other woodies at HW. Punishing is the only adjective that adequately captures the experience. First coaster that ever hurt me to the point that I had to sit down and rest after the ride. Never in my life had I been on a coaster that I just wanted to stop until I rode this one. It is an insane ride and a long one for sure. Perhaps I'll give it another go one day in hopes that it's smoother.

    This is an awesome coaster. So many comment about how impressive the length is but what's actually impressive is what it does with that length. So many elements and never letting up (unlike another wooden coaster in the woods with impressive length butva lot of strait track). That's what good terrain usage will do. While I do wish they'd swap out the restraints (I understand buzbars probably wouldn't be safe but it definately should be possible to hybridify the trains-PTC chassis, Gravity Group lapbars) I won't complain about the restraints too much, doing that layout in a PTC train is the closest you can get in the real world to barreling down Glacier Gulch from The Polar Express (something I always fantacised about doing). Because it's such a great ride I bought the ornament (I display it year round on my witch alter) and a shirt that has a picture of the coaster on it.

    Thank you for the video of my number one favorite wood coaster. I have not ridden The Voyage since its first few years when it ran the seven car PTC train and it did not have trim brakes. (They were just block brakes back then.) For those that also rode it back then, how have the changes affected the ride, if at all?

  • @ChrisStephenHP

    @ChrisStephenHP

    Жыл бұрын

    @Locoboy 5150 the changes are minimal. The extra car on the longer train did make for slightly more ridiculous ejector on the first drop but it's still outstanding with the shorter train. The trims do have a noticeable impact, about 3 seconds slower, but the profile is so brilliant you don't know you're missing the speed as you careen back downhill. The changes were made to make the ride more durable (lighter train slightly slower) and they still have to spend a small fortune on maintenance. But as a fellow enthusiast I can 100% say Will Koch would do it and I'm so glad his family continue to. And those trimless rides, while unicorns, are heavenly. They just can't run it like that all day, every day, so to get even one is a special treat. To get dozens...we just don't know how lucky we are.

    If you listen to the podcasts or know anything about the owners. They were all kids when their dad owned the park and each one of them “got” a wood coaster. Will (former owner) passed away years ago and Now that the park is in their hands they take the maintenance of their coasters personally cause they were riding them everyday after school growing up. They have said if they got an RMC it would be a ground up like Gwazi and I agree. In Fact I would wait till all the major parks finish the “craze” phase and then boom build the best RMC hybrid out there and out do them all

    @@CancelHappiness That’s a terrible idea just due to the physics of polyurethane wheels bleeding to much speed. Ride would be even shorter then it is. Keep your hands off my favorite woodies
