How base these commenters can be! Here is a lovely group of young singers performing wonderful music for an appreciative audience and all they can do is rip on the diction of the singers. What the hell is wrong with you people? it's not as if this sort of beautiful singing is now available live wherever you look. These young descendants of the von Trapp family are making music the way it used to be made: with wonderful intonation and expression and attention to musical detail. How depressing it is to see moronic people writing about the diction having an accent and not being German. Show me your talent and your command of the English language before you spout garbage like that. You Germans are always grousing about things and looking at the glass half empty. I know - I grew up in a German family. It's hard to get past your own negativity. Still, rejoice when you hear lovely art being made. The world needs so much more of this wonderful and pure music making. Shame on you for attacking these young artists. They effortlessly have more talent than any of you will likely ever have in ten generations of your miserable genetic pool.

I can't see the obviously mean comments any more and yes, I know that unfortunately there are Germans who can be very mean, especially in the anonymity of the internet, when it comes to accents, mispronunciation, etc. I don't want to be a part of that. But as being German myself, I can also assure you that the majority of people appreciate it very much when we hear non-Germans performing such old songs.

@Dave Smith I agree that the negativity is cultural but I don't agree that it is intended in these comments as a compliment. So often, Germans will be rudely critical with absolutely no intention of helping to foster improvement. In the US, we call that taking a 'cheap shot' at someone. It is the verbal equivalent of a sucker punch. I am altogether too familiar with this cultural trait. I dislike it intensely.

As a German: Nobody in Germany understands why Americans think Germans are direct, impolite and critical. We see ourselves as critical, yes, but for Germans that's neither good nor bad, something just has to be said if you want to eradicate mistakes. I know I'm making a lot of mistakes in these sentences I'm writing now - especially in grammar. But if someone doesn't offend me, I would do anything to do better next time. I know it's a cultural thing and it comes from the philosophers (Kant, Hegel, Nietzsche...) and the school system. But when a German criticizes you, he is only interested in what you said and has no problem with a direct ("critical") response - we want to know the heart of the matter. We like to discuss dialectically (that's from Hegel: thesis, antithesis --> synthesis) and of course we hate small talk ;-)... and maybe that's why everyone thinks we don't have a sense of humor... and I'm here from Better Call Sall too and I love the vocals of the von Trapps.

@Dave Smith I can sympathize with that, in Germany we certainly underestimate the positive effect of "small talk". But we don't see it as necessary, often even disturbing. Do you know how you could have answered her (on your date)?: "In neuroscience, it's well known that it's beneficial to take a mental breather." - I think she would have smiled and not taken it as rude.

I know they’re only youngsters, but the song isn’t just about some ordinary man hearing some random voice- Brahms used a poem by the brilliant Jesuit priest Friedrich Spee von Langenfeld. The voice the man hears on the breeze is that of Jesus the night before he dies. It’s a lamentation for the torture and death of Jesus of Nazareth, with all creation mourning him. Beautiful.

The harmony is lovely and sweetly sung but the German pronunciation needs quite a bit of cleaning up. I give it "A" for effort.

Wonderfully sung! And I know German is hard, but the accent and some pronunciations are just cringey and wrong. Hopefully you'll be able to improve that a little. Still, it does sound beautiful!
