He sang it in Carrie Fisher's Bathroom for the official recording in 2005 who also gave him room and lodging. He's probably remembering her while singing, not in the romantic sense, but because she died in 2016. He's performing this after her death.

The live version at Oxford Union 2016 was such a powerful version because of the acoustics in that room, also you could see every woman fall in love him and every man try not to shed a tear.

He's such a great guy. And what I noticed, just like many people in here, that James Blunt sung the song like it was his first time, feeling all the emotions the song carries. I'm the same, no matter how many times I remember moments that were emotional, the emotions keep coming back. It's what makes James Blunt extraordinary, in my opinion.

Wow I've never listened to this song and felt so emotional before, what a performance

It's rare for me to become emotional from a song/anything really... but the first time I heard this my gf had recently passed away from an accident. My first real love was gone and I felt hollow like he sings. To this day when almost nothing else in my life makes me cry, this song always brings me to the tears. He truly is a special talent and it's a blessing musicians like him are on this earth.

This is just sensational never really listened to Mr blunt but what a passionate singer and great tune this is

Guys. I'm a rocker from my childhood, I've never listened to James Blunt, sometimes I heard him on the radio, but didn't even pay attention to his songs... Until now. Maybe it's because I'm older now, or something, but his performance touched me right in the heart. I was literally crying while watched him behind the piano and I felt every word of the lyrics. Man, that song is a masterpiece even itself but I can't even imagine anyone else to sing it more beautiful, with more passion and emotion. Maybe it is just me, but I can see some tears in his eyes too. Gosh, I love this song!

I think the tears in his eyes in this video must have been because he's missed his true lover, music, so very much within the context of the pandemic/when this was filmed. Beautiful.

You can see how much it still hurts him. 😢

I've read a number of comments, either on this particular video or on others that slate him for complaining about the effects of COVID. The narrow-mindedness of some people to even consider that COVID didn't affect all people is insulting. It did impact musicians both big and small in the same way it impacted every other facet of life. This was a beautiful performance that truly resonated with me and the people I lost. Brilliant effort James.. I can see the emotion you put into it ❤
