    Tremolo/gated vocals were popular in mid to late 90s aswell. At least here in europe. I guess it came from trance and then spread into mainstream eurodisco.

    Definitely, midi triggered gating does allow more precise control over the rhythm and swing than a typical tremolo though

    See this is the tutorials i fucking love. short, simple, straight to the point. I hate having to hear the persons whole backstory on how they were born and got into music and how as a kid they heard this sound and they took 15 years to find how to make it, then the last 2 mins of the 30min video is the actual tutorial.

    Also... let's not exclude classic step sequencer type filters as a method for achieving this technique. Although they're not generally triggered by midi, they are usually major tone enhancers and work with envelopes in a very analogue and musical way. Arturia's SEM Filter is a beast as is the Oberheim. Some of my fav plug emulations from them

    It's too complicated to explain it all in a comment here, but Fruity's Peak Controller is one of the many tools you can you use for sidechain volume ducking with FLS. It's the "LFO tool" that most FLS user don't even know they own.

  • @alakazamaudio

    got it - get a white noise sample and make a midi pattern and then add a fruity peak controller to that channel on the vocal sample channel add a fruity balance and right-click volume - link to controller - link to the peak controller you just added

  • @AutPen38

    @AutPen38

    11 ай бұрын

    If you're comfortable using Fruity's Peak Controller, you could write a long midi pattern (or several short ones) that are played silently, but that control the volume of the vocal track. The technique is very similar to sidechain volume ducking the bass with a compressor, but you use a customized MIDI pattern instead of the 4/4 kick drum to do the ducking. If I wasn't in the mood to do automation with Peak Controller (it can get complicated) I'd probably just make multiple variations of the chop patterns with Kilohearts trancegate and then render and recombine them as WAVs though.

    There are a ton of ways to do gated chops in FL Studio. The method I'd probably use would be to program a midi rhythm that gets fed into Peak Controller and then use the output of that to automate the volume of the vocals. There are plenty of free "trancegate" plugins that make it even easier.
