NOTE: at 3:11 I misspoke and said 1/20th when I meant to say 1/120th of a second to match the text on the screen. Im sorry if that caused any confusion. Hope this helps those of you looking to learn the basics! Let me know in the comments if I should make a part 2 with more advanced skills.

I’m a hobbyist but video is definitely something I want to get into more this year since I got the LUMIX G9II. I’m absolutely a beginner but a video on more advanced stuff as well would be super helpful 👍

Great vid! Would like something more in depth too, perhaps a course? Also what would you recommend with regards to editing software? Premier, Final Cut, Divinci? Many thanks

I've learned more from this man than my art professors. When he says he's got something that'll help, it actually helps. Just wish Evan came out like 8-10 years ago, coulda saved me a lot of money.

Hi Evan, thank you so much for your videos. I’m a photographer who is trying to get into video. However, I’m struggling in doing both photos and video during traveling. Would love to see a BTS to see how you juggle both!

Great video Evan, coming from commercial photography and adapting the business to branch into video hit many of the hurdles you describe in this video… I can say from my own experience that shooting one or the other simplifies your task but in the real world clients love to ask for both, and to provide value and being in the business of saying yes I shot for a client that wanted both stills and video and it is a handful. My video colleagues said it’s possible but if a client can be persuaded the coverage is much better if both are left to focus on there either video or stills. That said I planned accordingly and executed both and the one thing worth mentioning that you’re probably aware of is video very much involves audio, not always but it absolutely comes up, in my case for the already complicated job I shot they wanted a end of event speech recorded and then day if asked for some ‘to camera’ shots that also added audio. And the old adage of bad audio IS bad video absolutely applies, no matter how good or pretty your A or B roll looks…. Good stuff and get that Nikon Z8 videography breakdown video out as that is the camera I shot my project with and is my choice no question…

I've been shooting since '76. I don't like to shoot video. OK at it, I suppose... no one objects or complains, but it's "more than the moment".

Thanks for the video! I think another one getting deeper into using log would be helpful. A lot of us photographers could benefit from an explainer on how we could transfer some common editing techniques for editing raw photos to editing log videos. A beginners course on using LUTs would be nice too.

You can't use the termin "180 degrees angle" without explaining what it is, otherwise could've just said shutter == 2 * frame rate

Hmmm good to hear the other side of the coin! Wedding are an example I typically stay away from just cause I don’t have much experience, and they’re much larger jobs so doing both is less of a possibility. I’ve seen this happen more with social media/event clients who try and book me for photos + video
